You're my favorite drum teacher on YT because of how you explain things, and how get folks to learn a groove, little by little, and develop muscle memory. I'm an old guy at nearly 65 and have been playing most of my life. Drumming is not my career, but it's my hobby and therapy. I've been out of commission due to tennis elbow and a finger injury to my left hand. But I'm healing and getting back into it. I will work on this half shuffle as my next project, based on your lessons. Thanks for sharing, Mike.

I’ve watched a lot of videos explaining and demonstrating the Purdie Shuffle. This is by far the best I’ve seen as far as explaining and teaching is concerned. Excellent. Finally I know how to play it.

Wow !, Mike brilliant lesson always wanted to know the mechanics of this groove and you have given me the tools and confidence to start working on it , the way you have broken this down is is top notch and i can follow it with confidence i am not the quickest of learners but your approach has given me new hope in my drumming many thanks. I am 63 now and after a 50 year gap from when i picked up the sticks but was discouraged by family but loving it now and i have been playing for nearly two years now but still find it difficult but will never give up as it is what keeps me wanting to live on. again many thanks for you videos.

Great lesson Mike!!! I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Purdie last year when he played with a trio. He is a very nice guy and very funny. He actually lives a few towns over from me. Keep up the great work!!!!!!🥁🎶🎵🥁

Struggled like crazy with the Purdie Shuffle till I found Mike's' video. Absolute gold!! I do think he should rearrange his set-up so he doesn't have to turn around to talk into the mic, but hey, if he can live with it, so can I. Thank you so much.

...theres lots of videos teaching this pattern..however, you break it down nice & slow ..beat by beat..much more digestible for absorbing it fully..as always great vid..✔✔✔👍

The best technic for me is by reading the drum sheet. And take it slowly by doing the hi-hat and snare together first etc. and on about the Rosanna shuffle here, more difficult.

Good video!! Understanding the "shuffles" is hugely misunderstood.. what about counting in?? That's something that never gets enough attention.. Let's Roll by little feat is a good example to use for teaching.

    • @MikeBarnesDrums

Ha ha. Learning hard things takes consistent effort over sustained time! Some people do seem quite confused about this in my experience and bring wildly unrealistic expectations about how long complicated things will take to build up. Having said that, the learning time can be cut massively by doing consistent, deliberate practice like this IMO. Thanks for watching man :)
