    Thank you for your video. I was trying it for the first time while watching. It was like we were in a room together. I told me friend is super smooth then you said it's very smooth we laughed! I give this scotch 5 out of 5 rating. The balance of taste and smoothness for a single malt is lovely. I will say the smoothness allows me to actually taste all the flavors.

    • @MrMilk5hake
      @MrMilk5hake 5 років тому +3

      Whisky is best stored in a cool location out of direct light. Refrigerating or placing it in the freezer will affect the taste while it's too cold and there's no benefit to storing it that way. It should be served room-temperature or with whisky stones or ice if you want to cool and or dilute it.

    at 43% here in the USA it's a decent purchase, but I think the price is a bit inflated compared to some of the other quality, younger whiskies we have (e.g., Speyburn 10 is only a bit over $25). Glenmorangie 10 here is nearly $50 -- not worth it! Considering the Lasanta and Quinta Ruban are only $10 more, they're worth the extra bit.

    First whisky in 25 years of drinking I could pallet. Had half a bottle and really enjoyed it. Woke up with not much of a hangover BAR a chronic headache. Took aspirin and was fine but very strange hangover it was migraine strength headache. Is that a common thing with whisky? Like I said no other hangover effects bar that monster headache.

    Horst, or anyone else. Is it possible (I know this would never happen, it's just a theoretical question) but can scotch distilleries add any artificial coloring to their scotch? Like, if they wanted blue scotch, to commemorate Scotland or something, could they make that legally? Or can it only be e150a? And can you explain if distilleries that use the same exact barrels let's say, and exact ingredients, is it just barometric pressure and weather that make them different colors?

    • @MrDavidMoriarty
      @MrDavidMoriarty 8 років тому +1

      Research I've done has said only E150a is allowed as coloring.

    • @unctarheels5612
      @unctarheels5612 8 років тому +1

      +The Joy Of Piping okay perfect, this is what I wanted to know. I wasn't actually serious about blue scotch, it was just an extreme example. But then again we all drink green beer a certain day of the year haha

    • @MrDavidMoriarty
      @MrDavidMoriarty 8 років тому +1

      +UNC Tarheels lol, you got me there. I hit downtown Raleigh like I do every year and must've had a gallon of Guinness instead of the green beer for once!
      I wouldn't roll with blue whisky either, but each manufacturer usually states whether it's been added or not. Some darker colors come from the casks they finish in like Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban.

    • @unctarheels5612
      @unctarheels5612 8 років тому

      +The Joy Of Piping Horst specifically says that an EU law says that every ingredient and color (Farbstoff) has to be on the label, it sucks that they can still not put this on the labels and not be punished for it. And then compass box puts their ingredients and the whisky makers in their blends available (what distillery, year, and percentage, and abv) and they get in trouble. Are you a native of NC? Teaser alert, I graduated from UNC haha

    • @MrDavidMoriarty
      @MrDavidMoriarty 8 років тому

      +UNC Tarheels it's a bit of a pain not knowing from the bottle whether or not they've added coloring, but it doesn't affect flavor, at least not in my opinion.
      I'm not a native, but I've been in Raleigh a few years and I love it here.

    I like Horst... but this review was sub-par...
    The Original may not be any sort of challenge to Scotch "snobs"... but being the best seller in Scotland... to me is a very BIG deal... a whisky that is appealing to the "masses" may be frowned on by the snobs, as Dewars often is, being the best seller in the world... but one would assume that the Scots know a bit more about the character of their whisky... from "novice" to "expert"...
    Not my very favorite, but I still love the stuff.

    • @jerkfck

    • @MisterCaution
      @MisterCaution 4 роки тому +1

      To be fair, Glennorangje is the most commonly accessible bottle in the UK. Think of it like this... Bud Light is the most sold beer in the USA because it’s everywhere and it’s inexpensive. And yet, it is a terrible, mass produced product that pales in comparison to anything made by smaller American breweries.

    • @AZSilverbug
      @AZSilverbug 4 роки тому +1

      @@MisterCaution You sound like a snob... and not very intelligent.
      Bud Light, Coor Light, Miller Lite... all huge sellers, preferred and enjoyed by millions... who are YOU to say they all are dumb? Sure, there are many far better brews... so what? "Terrible"? Nonsense.
      There are far better Scotches than Glenmorangie... but it is still VERY enjoyable.
      Sales figures are far more credible than YOUR shallow opinions.

    • @MisterCaution
      @MisterCaution 4 роки тому

      Just the Facts ... That was rather ad hominem for disagreeing with me. My point that Bud Light is terrible beer is indisputable-it is as objective as a fact as today is Saturday. Now, importantly, never once did I describe buying Bud Light as “dumb.” There are reasons to buy terrible beer. Some people buy it because it is cheap and available literally anywhere that sells beer products. Others buy it because they simply don’t like good beer, or don’t really care if what they are drinking is good or not. For example, I am not a wine fan, so I don’t really care about whether a given glass of wine is genuinely good or cheap, mass-produced stuff.
      Now, describing Glenmorangie as the “Bud Light” of single malt Scotch was certainly harsh and probably undeserved, but I am looking at this point about Scots buying it-it’s everywhere over there. I do have a bottle of Glenmorangie in my cupboard right now for visitors who want to drink a dram, but don’t actually enjoy single malt Scotch.

    • @AZSilverbug
      @AZSilverbug 4 роки тому +1

      @@MisterCaution Once again, your arrogance is beyond belief. No, fool, it is not "terrible"... you spit on all that enjoy that brew, along with other domestic light beers with your insipid and idiotic comments.
      Yes, your comment about Glenmorangie was harsh (more like stupid)... like all of your comments. You know very little about the subject, beer, wine or scotch... so why not STFU?
      No more chit chat... I will not respond to any more of your dumb shit posts.

    Got the 4 little bottle sampler and I kinda hated this one. Even 100ml was hard to finish. The other 3 were far better - Lasanta especially, but also Quinta Ruban (strange color though) and 3rd favotite was Nectar D'or (most expensive).

    I know I am likely in the minority but I was very underwhelmed by this one. I like my Whisky to be more robust than this. I would serve this to someone who enjoys a lite tasting spirit.

      It is my least favorite scotch on my shelf of 9. The initial nose is like an aggressive alcohol, but Horst calls it 'citrousy'. Because I'd have to finish this bottle eventually, I gave it another try after watching this video. This time, I swirled the Glenmorangie more and let it air. I took tiny sips ... and it tasted much better. I don't like adding water, so another way is to take small sips and let residual saliva take care of the scotch. I can taste the vanilla, oak, and orange peel much better, with less interference from aggressive alcohol, especially at the finish. Give it a try and let me know.

      I agree with you wholeheartedly. I dislike this Scotch more than any other single malt. This is more like a cheap blended whiskey, ala Dewars.

      +HillaToppa 90'z No, it's just inferior Scotch Whiskey. Under aged, and has a harsh formula. The new formula of the Glenmorganie Lasanta 12 is really satisfying. Yet only being 43 percent volume, it's well balanced and smooth. Even better, when the new Lasanta 12 oxidizes, it becomes more smoother. Smooth as an 18 year malt. Enough said...

      wesleytaylorviadomus Haven't tried the Lasanta yet but it's one of the ones i keep looking at. thanks for letting me know i'll be sure to pick up a bottle of it next time. to hell with the 10 year old.

      +HillaToppa 90'z I had a bottle of this several years ago and it wasn't too good at first, but with about half the bottle left and two months untouched, I found that the oxidation had improved the taste.

      Same here. Here the usa its around $40. In that price range, there are a lot of other whiskies to be desired.

      ArtMorte Yeah i do know Oxidation can improve a whisky significantly but buying a bottle and having to wait weeks/months for it to oxidise just isn't practical for me. I drink whisky most nights so i tend to make it through bottles quicker than that.

      I'd say that it is EASILY on par w/this Glenmorangie 10..... Interesting thing about both of these single malts is that the Glenmorangie 10 is available (as of three years after this video) here in Wisconsin at 43%. Horst reported that his was only 40%. The Speyburn 10 just recently changed in availability where I've always found it at 43%----but the newer bottles in newer packaging are only at 40%.......This sort of pissed me off because I believe the flavor profile is affected by this------I'd rather add a little special water of my own to dilute if only mildly my own whisky from the higher ABV.......At any rate----GOOD DISCUSSION AND CHEERS!!!!

      His review of Tullamore Dew and Bushmills show that he's not afraid of negative reviews (or at least, negative reactions). He does occasionally preface his reviews saying he doesn't like bitter, so you mileage may vary.
