    Excellent video which explains the coatings very well. Good point on the polishing step being the final cleaning step as sometimes road film will only come off after polishing. Thank you for another solid video!

    Finally applied "The Stack" to my wife's Expedition this past weekend and can honestly say this was the most impressed I've been with a coating. The simplicity and ease of application made this process a breeze and the results were outstanding. I leaned against it talking to my cousin a few days afterwards and I slipped right off. It's well worth the time investment if you have the time and money to buy and apply both coatings. Editing the video of the application and should have it posted in a few weeks.

    Question: Have a Camaro that is a pleasure/show vehicle. My original thought was to do the 8yr/3yr stack to really make it pop for shows. Since you state that the 5yr has the most gloss, that seems like another option. What do you recommend . . . and it's the soft GM black for reference & another good reason I think to coat it. TY

I bought your applicators for can coat, will they work good for it?

      It should work, give it a try and see how it works with that coating. Not familiar with it so can’t tell you for sure, I would always recommend using the applicator your coating manufacturer recommends, but if it helps you spread the product it will probably be just fine

    So you don’t have to polish the car if you don’t want to, but would you still have to clay bar it to get rid of contaminants after you wash it? Could you list the steps if you don’t polish what you would need to do?

    Another great video. I got all my questions answered, except one. I have a new car and if l decide not to polish my car before applying, lets say the stacked 8 and 3 year coating, and then l notice few minor scratches that l would like to get rid off, is there a way for me to fix that? Could l polish that spot and then apply the 8 and the 3 ceramic coating again over that spot, or do l just live with those scratches? Thanks 😮

    • @diydetailofficial

    But I just did my first ceramic coat this past weekend and I have a dark red 6th gen Camaro and I was having a really hard time ( even in my garage ) telling where I had already wiped the coating. No matter which light or angle I just couldn't tell and the results were less than ideal.
    The next day in the sun I had several rainbow-ish like smear spots on almost every panel.

    Gloss: The 3 year coating has less gloss vs the 5 & 8. Wish there was the ability to see the difference in a video.

    I've been wondering about coating application pricing as someone who is thinking about doing detailing on the side. Since coating application is much easier than before and polishing isn't necessarily required, are professional detailers still charging $1000+ for them?

    • @alfredautospa
      @alfredautospa 5 місяців тому +5

      I am going to say yes for $1000+. A car may not require a full 2 step correction, but I think a light polish of 2 passes with the jeweling pad just to prep the paint should be done UNLESS you know for a fact that no protection was ever applied to the paint. It's a good CYA step and ensures the paint is ready to receive the coating. Part of the expense in the coating is your expertise in the prep and application of coatings and the other part is baking some profit into the process to cover you should you ever need to reapply a failed coating. Really you want to be paid for that warrantee you're providing your customer and that higher cost helps with that. Even if you never need to re-apply a coating, that profit will just help you grow your business and do things like business coaching or education which will help you serve your customers better.
      The other part of it is that is the industry standard price. You just happen to be benefiting from using a product that works well and is easy and quick to apply which is a plus for you. Undercutting your competition will likely make them mad, but may also raise concerns from potential customers as to why you are so much cheaper than the others. Even if your quality and results are the same, customers will always question "Why are they so much cheaper than other detailers, they must be cutting corners somewhere to be making money".
      I apologize for the mind-dump, but wanted to pass on some lessons I've learned. I absolutely encourage you to get into it. It's one of the best side hustles I know of and you get to work on some amazing cars while you're at it.
      If you do get started, I might consider an 'introductory' price for the first few coatings if you wanted to get your feet wet but have a price close to industry standard that you will target once you've done a few. And be clear on the future price with your customer you give a discount to so you have something to stand on when their friends come looking for the same service at the same price.
      Good luck! I hope you get started and it turns into a nice side business!

    • @diydetailofficial

      Alfred’s answer is spot on. Don’t sell yourself short. Lower prices mean a downgrade to the Detailers around you.

      @alfredautospa 5 місяців тому

      @@albaker2938 I'm glad you found it helpful. I think that knowing what to charge and what is reasonable to charge is something most of us struggle with when we first get going. I know I did as well until I started following Yvan and I've slowly been bringing my prices up to closer align with the industry standard and it's opened some opportunities for me both with clients and financially.
      Even if you're just getting going and are learning how to do coatings, if you provide an incredible customer experience, it will far out weigh your "lack of experience" with coatings. Honestly if you stick with DIY coatings, they are so simple you'll look and feel like an expert in no time.
      If you have any questions or if I can help in any way, feel free to reach out!

      my smaller market/competition and being a "side hustle" home garage professional puts me more in the 400$-600$ price range.. Any new vehicles get a lower price as they only need a quick 1 step polish to boost gloss and exfoliate the clear to deep clean and prep it.
