When I use \begin{equation}, my equation is not centered. Do you know why that is the case? I am using overleaf.

But Overleaf hints you: use \eqref! No, hand-made references are more valuable than those automatically decorated. But imagine that an editor says: Now all equation references should be in square brackets! And you must find all references in your text and change the brackets. :(
