that whole middle section of "when good dogs do bad things" is still electrifying after all these years. One of the best things either artist has done!
I was at this show and I still can't believe I got to see Patton with Dillinger. I didn't get into the band until 2010 and I was far too young to experience the early days. And now, as of Sunday, I got to see them play a whole show with Dimitri, too... collected performances from all three vocalists like fuckin Infinity Stones.
Scott Lauren Yeah I know, you see the difference between Ryhmer and Pennie's drumming, from the technicalities to chops. I think Pennie really shy away after he leaves TDEP and reconcile with Ben.
To be fair, Billy is a great drummer... But Chris Pennie is one of the best ever, Calculating Infinity/Miss Machine and this album totally changed the way I approached playing drums in the late 90's and early 2000's.
This album is still one of the best things DEP ever did and I wish I could have seen this live. I really want the whole story as to how this album happened. to be a FLY on he wall for it...
DEP had toured with Mr. Bungle right before Dimitri left. The band reached out to him and asked him to do the EP, and IIRC, he did it because he was already a fan, and because he was worried the band would break up if they couldn't find a vocalist fast enough, so he wanted to help keep the band active while they looked for someone new.

Leaving was even worse because security was dumping water on us, on top of being soaked in sweat lol. Almost got hypothermia going back to my car but it was so fucking worth it.
I was there the next night (couldn't make the other two). Getting there was horrible because the E train was messed up so we had to walk extra in the ten-degree weather. Then had to wait outside for like a half hour right next to the Hudson River since it was on the west side of NYC. However, none of it mattered once the show started. In fact, the freezing weather was actually great on the way out because everyone was sweating bullets inside! Lol. Great time.
I never knew this even happened, weird how they got Brian back to play rhythm guitar for some of it, but no Chris Pennie on drums :( ... It would have been really cool to hear Mike Patton do vocals for some of the other songs from either Calculating or any of the later stuff with Greg just for kicks.
Daniel Smith gutted you missed the first night but saw the last 2. I'm gutted I live in England and had not the time nor money to come to any of these shows, its alright tho I saw them on their last UK tour
It would've been nice if they'd performed a random pop cover, such as they did with their first ever performance of the EP, when they covered Justin Timberlake.
It's his perfectionism coming into play. I'd be intimidated if I were playing along side Patton. Maybe Patton sees him as the weakest link and has his attention focused on him, pushing him probably. If you are on the same stage as Patton you better be good at what you do too.
@@dugp1862 It could also be that he fucking digs the drummer and hes just getting into it with him. I doubt Pattons seeing any of these guys as weak links.
Quantum physical reality confirmed! 9:02 (freeze frame).. ... um.. where does his head go? Also, this is about the moment Mike pushes, I wanna say Ben (not confirming), away. "I am not down with what you'll soon be doing with Greg Puciato!" :)
That drummer is so sloppy compared to Dillinger's original drummer Chris Pennie. These songs here just don't groove, it's static. Pennie's drumming is so hectic, nervous and incredible. Billy tries to emulate but it is completely wrecked.
Agreed, unfortunately - I was so excited to see the recordings from these shows when they eventually came out, but these performances just feel so rigid. From 5:30-5:50, that section of When Good Dogs Do Bad Things is usually so sick and no doubt my favourite 20 seconds of this EP, but it's so lacking in the groove that makes it feel so menacing. This is absolutely not to say I could have done it better, but it would have been cool for the guys to have brought Pennie back for these songs.
Billy is an outstanding drummer that served them very well. that said, these songs have Pennies name all over them in his distinct jazz style. He was the right man for that job. Billy was flawless on the music he wrote with them and the Gil Sharone era stuff. Chris just had the knack for that era because he wrote it and understood what he and the band were looking for in that setting. No shame to Billy, he really is damn good.
I bought a $120 ticket for this show just for patton's 20 mins. rest of the show was hard to listen to. i hate dillinger's lead singer's singing voice. he does awesome screams but sounds like a generic little bitch otherwise.

agreed. that part alone is the best thing on this video. insane to see it.
Amazing. Hope Patton and Weinman will work together again.
IDK how Patton ever got pulled into this album but it's god damned amazing
Mike Patton was one of the first people to hear Calculating Infinity, and got them on tour with Mr. Bungle afterwards. So he was a fan.
@@brandonvu5429 Yup he was the one who requested to work with DEP
How in the name of all things holy did I miss this show?!?
Surprising that after they broke up, Patton didn’t immediately start a band with one of them
Yeah they mesh perfectly..we got mr bungle soooo there lol
i think he's too old for that
I was really hoping for it.
But now we have scott Ian in Mr bungle
Scott Ian and Dave lombardo in Mr. Bungle is exactly what I wouldn't want

I can’t think of anything cooler than Mike patton and Dillinger covering an Aphex twin song

I just wish Chris Pennie played drums in this set, he will literally kill these songs.
soothemexx He did the production drumming, but of course he wasnt here at this show. Or any shows in the past ten years or so.
