Patton casually guest appearing on the band’s EP and showing how he’s levels above all/any other vocalist this band could ever find. Just like when Mike effortlessly stepped into the lead vocal role for Faith No More in the late 80’s. He’s such a unique talent. One of my absolute favorite musicians ever.
Hilariously, this was my intro to DEP, I was a Metal Head and Techno fan, took a day off work with a freind, we drove down to Atlanta to hit Tower Records then go to little five points and hit Criminal records, when I was shooting the breeze with an employee who clued me in on this ep. The Come to Daddy cover being my bait. I snagged a copy because I was a big Faith No More fan, it opened me up to a ton of new music. I probably became a huge Converge fan because of DEP and countless other bands. UA-cam is great, but I miss good local record shops.
Too bad he didn't stick w Dillinger This is some of the best material from either of them. Not putting down either of their amazing catalogs. This just seemed like the perfect home for Patton
Honestly I think dillinger would've better(even though it's hard to improve what is damn near perfect) with a rotating vocalist spot, working with 1 vocalist for an album and a tour. Maybe I'm wrong, but it would've been a great idea and would've opened the group up to do alot more experimenting, kind of like a hard as fuck BADBADNOTGOOD
Trevor Jacobs I love that idea! That really would’ve been the way to go. Imagine Bjork doing a Dillinger record? I dunno why I thought of her but I Think after working w Patton and her and playing w NIN so much as they have they would have been perfectly rounded out for limitless originality

@@stolendrones Funny that I was just listening to this very album yesterday! Great timing to remind everyone that it's 2021, and this is still the best album of all time. ☺️
@@stolendrones @Mick Glenn You notice something new and brilliant almost every time you listen to it. It's an absolute masterpiece! Speaking of the best band ever, with any luck, I hope to be heading to Chicago to see Mr Bungle in September. I was planning to see them when Covid hit and ruined everything. If life and Covid permits, I'll finally be seeing the first Bungle show in 20 years. I don't know if you got to see their online Halloween show last year, but it was sheer perfection! You chose a weird album to start with man. Being post-Minakakis and pre-Puciato it's sorta the odd-ball of D.E.P. records, still, with Mike Patton on vocals it's quite the treat. I mean, what other math-core bands can say they got the pleasure of playing beside Mike Patton, let alone record a record with him on vocals, it's pretty wild even thinking about it. Look into "Calculating Infinity" and after that "Miss Machine," this band has a very diverse selection of sounds, as well as vocalists just within the time of releasing 5 full length albums and 4 eps. Don't be so quick to judge from listening to the band's odd-ball record (than again, mike patton did amazing on this record.)

I only discovered this EP about a year and a half ago. I love all things Mike Patton and this is definitely in my top 5 projects he’s done. DEP are complete masters of their instruments and Patton pairs so well with their chaos. I absolutely love this. I wish they would do a full length at some point but I don’t see that happening.

The Dillinger Escape Plan, especially this EP and Calculating Infinity is something that you either understand and "get" or you don't. Honestly, most people see this as just noise. Admittedly, Calculating Infinity took me a few listens to "get" it. Meshuggah are another band that you either get or you don't. Check out Destroy Erase Improve by Meshuggah and see what I mean.
Jupp totally agree with you:) the dillinger escape plan is a musical journey. And Meshuggah have riffs and some very distinguished tonality`s that you wont hear in other bands!
nah, this isn't noise, masonna is noise, whitehouse is noise, merzbow is noise, dep is just a bit more technical than all the hardcore bands they toured with and the scene that accepted them.
Meshuggah's music is like a rollercoaster ride through Dante's 7 layers of hell while Kidman's vocals function as a sortof shamanistic travel guide or something. "And if you look on your right you'll see under the eclipse wrath raping gluttony in his void"
DrugzRKoool I got both bands hahaha! I Love TDEP and Meshuggah. I love how everything they do goes against most peoples general understandings of what constitutes as music yet they are probably two of the most "musical" bands ever. I always though Strapping Young Lad were like that too.
