Not only did you create an incredible piece of furniture, it's a great video. There is no banjo music in our face as there is in far too many DIY instructional videos. THANK YOU!
This video itself is a piece of art. Not only is the bench a thing of beauty, but the time and effort that translates through your quality of film, edits, music, etc.... WOW. One of the few videos on UA-cam that I have truly enjoyed recently.
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
Much obliged to the creator of this plan for sharing such awesome work of yours in an extremely moderate expense [Link Here== *TopFineWoodworking. Com* ]. The nature of the work and the materials far surpasses the cost. This is the best offer as such.?
I have let some of my woodwork colleagues know about this site [Link Here== *TopFineWoodworking. Com* ]. I was especially awed in the wake of experiencing the outlines and plans that were incorporated into the bundle. This is the best item for any woodwork devotee and shed manufacturer out there.?
Chris, not everything's about time. It's more about approach, and the joy that certain of these can bring. Don't be too overwhelmed by the number of tools. After all, you can boil them down to their basic functions, i;e 1)planing with, or 2)against, the grain. I'd sincerely recommend the following : 1) low-angle block plane (Veritas), 2) no.4 1/2 bench plane ( Lie Nielson and NOTHING ELSE!), 3) low-angle bevel up mitre plane (Veritas), a medium shoulder plane (Veritas again), and maybe to finish, for your pleasure, a no. 6 or 7 shooting plane (optional)of either make. Follow up with 200, 1000, 5000 grit Japanese water stones (read up on their use beforehand). The blades supplied by both makes are finely honed to start with. That's it. Bravo, well done on 2nd job. Nice work. Keep going
Hello Chris My name is Pierre Rousseau, I am from Canada. I just now discovered your channel quite by accident...the kind of accident that I really like. About 10 seconds in to the first video, I knew I was going to like it. Not just for the projects or your skills as a woodworker, but the cinematography , you obviously have some experience in visual arts of sorts !! Being a woodworker myself, I watch a lot of woodworking videos, and I think most of them are pretty good, but your video are of a very good quality !! Thank you for making them ! I will be watching. I am certain your videos will be successful Sincerely your's Pierre Rousseau
I literally come here every couple years just for life inspiration. The videography mixed with the soundtrack just really nail it for me. Young kids, circumstantial frustration, it’s so relatable. This probably seems like a lifetime ago. You’re doing well, Chris.
Finally, someone who not only does design-driven woodworking but knows how to work a camera too! These are awesome man. As much as I love the sound of a saw cutting through wood IRL, the calm, soothing soundscapes of your videos fits the bill perfectly. Great work.
Wow, what to say.. I saw there a man that's looking for something that means something, that make he fells kinda different.. I saw humidity and professionalism, passion and patience. Yes, all of that means everything. Congrats, you made see a hole new world. Thank you!!
Hypnotic narration and slow tempo allowed for my imagination to take hold. This type of instructional "storytelling" is much needed in sea of ego driven jig making how to videos. Thank you for this video and I look forward to watching others you decide to create. Thanks, Mike
Well done. Great minimalist vibe, excellent music pairing. Narration is filled with not only technical aspects, but thoughts on what changed in the design process. I wish there were more artisan builds like this on youtube. You got a new sub for the excellent execution.
*TopFineWoodworking. Com* is a fantastic website about wood working. I took various classes as well as finished a one year diploma in carpentry at a local tech college; this is much better than any book I worked out of during those lessons. It explains everything regarding woodworking as well as complements it with helpful photos.?
Its awe inspiring to watch someone taking their time, not rushing steps but leveling accuracy into the work as a means of enjoying the process and honoring ones own effort, great vid, perfect music, well done Sir!
My favorite part was at the very end, when I realized that it was a demanding client, the Cat, who commissioned this piece. Pleasing such a client, is of the highest, most morally important, social responsibilities of an enlightened society, and one of it's "cool dudes"; right on up there with brewing great beer. You did well. You Cat has refined modern tastes. I look forward to more.
I really like the style you put this together, nothing is moving my attention away from the workpeace and nearly as important, nothing is moving my attention away from your thoughts and the process you took... thanks, one sub earned... I'll tell others too!
Such a contrast to the practically silent double-speed Jimmy Diresta videos I've been watching. I like both styles. This one is very relaxing and it was great the way you talk through the details.
Thanks Mike. Glad you liked my style. It's funny because if you listen to the "Making It" Podcast, Jimmy is actually a very talkative guy with a lot of interesting stories to tell.
FWIW I really enjoy your choices with sound levels. The machine noise compared to the music is just right, just loud enough to hear the sound of the saw cutting the wood, but not overpowering. There is something about the sound of saw cutting wood that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
While starting out in woodworking it's best to pick a plan that complements your skill level. Have you made anything from wood before? If not, then pick out a very basic plan for your first project... Check out => t.co/oLg9l5gL3F
just want to let you know that I really like everything you do and how you do it. the furniture, the video editing, everything. more power to you. you are an inspiration.
You must really hate glue squeeze out...you are definitely the most meticulous 'gluer' I've ever seen! Your furniture is truly beautiful, I love all the angles you use in your work.
Thanks Jacob. Side note...if I am ever interviewed for a news story, etc.. under my name I'm going to request "Gluer". No matter what the story. None of this "Eye Witness", "Home Owner" BS...I want "Gluer".
It took me a while to stop thinking 'come on, go faster!' but in the end I was subdued and just enjoyed the pace and relaxed with it. Very nice build and a great soothing video! Thanks for sharing.
+Kelsey Dougall Thanks Kelsey. Yeah, the pace is a little slow...I guess I want it to come off kind of the way that woodworking actually is, but without it being boring. It's a fine line that (hopefully) I can stay on the correct side of.
+Maxwell Mooney Thanks Maxwell! Glad it came off that way. However it comes off to people, I just tried to encapsulate what it is really like to woodwork (a slow process sometimes)
Subscribed! One of my favorite parts of woodworking is how peaceful it can be. In your own world with your own thoughts working out a complicated piece....and then the feeling of looking at your finished piece in its own space. You nailed it!
Thanks Cabbldr. Agreed. I've talked about that a lot before. It's really not "fun" in the normal sense. It is work, but it is still enjoyable...and it is very fulfilling.
Well rounded presentation with simplistic delivery and the sound ambiance is fitting for your design element. 3 years into self taught/ UA-cam video sharing such as yours and I have to say this is definitely worth subscribing to for those with a passion for makers In the wood craft.
Hey Chris, congrats on every aspect of your vid! Your style, narration, build, and sound and cinematography. There is plenty I learned. Liked, subscribed, and insta!
Right before you said it had a Japanesish flair, I was thinking it was a cross of Japanese and Danish Mid Century Modern design, with American Cherry. Multicultural bench. Love the build and look forward to more.
This is a superb wood working book I`ve ever read, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . Both novice and some skilled woodworker can gain a lot of general info using this reading material. I`ve been very amazed how frequently I use this to look up woods at places like to restore and salvage spots.?
Beautiful piece of furniture, and excellent video. Suggestion, do all the sanding and break the edges before assembly. That allows you to get into all the tough corners. Also, consider applying the finish to all pieces before assemble. Just tape off the joints where glue will be applied. I've found these steps save a lot of time in the long run.
Thanks Mark. I've done that on occasion in the past. I probably won't do it on the videos though, just b/c it wouldn't be as interesting to watch. Well...unless it is absolutely necessary, then I may or may not show it. In fact, on some of the other builds (cabinets) I do sand the insides before assembly...I don't think I showed it. Can't recall though.
While I liked the bench, I actually enjoyed the calmness and artistic quality of your video. I felt like I was getting a massage in a spa with the music and gentleness of your voice. great job!
I like the style of the video. No crazy sped up scenes or annoying music. It really gave me a mellow feeling watching it. This bench has a George Nakashima look to it. Only thing I noticed off about the project is that you are too tall for it. Keep the videos coming. I'm a subscriber!
+Jesse Fast Thanks. Yeah, it's an unfortunate combination of me loving furniture that is about an inch lower than average, and being a few inches taller than average.
Really enjoyed your video. Very in touch, almost like breaking the fourth wall kind of stuff. I felt like the whole video was a ride through what your muse must have been like for the design and building process for the bench. Good stuff.
Put some plastic or metal feet on it, so that if the porch gets at all wet, it won't be soaked up into the bottom of the wooden legs. Looks great, and loved the detailed information. I know everyone gives people crap when they have a whole shop full of expensive tools, but as I watch it, I can see says of doing make of the things with inexpensive versions of said tools anyways. Those who can't lack imagination. :)
+necrojoe Thanks! Yes...it's definitely possible to make the bench with fewer and cheaper tools. I think that one of the points that goes missing on the people who get mad that I have lots of tools, is the fact that I actually use these tools to make money when I build commissioned pieces. That's almost exclusively what I used them for the past 4 years. Only now am I beginning to build more things for myself. About the feet. I have some spacers so it isn't actually touching the ground now. Also, the only time that porch gets wet is if I hose it off...so I'll just move it out of the way when that happens.
I just got this package a few days ago, and I've had a hard time putting it down. There are lots of full-color pictures, with thorough descriptions of every step in the project. The plans are super easy to read and understand, unlike several others I looked at online. Definitely a valuable addition to my woodworking reference library. I would highly recommend it to anyone who's interested in woodworking *TopFineWoodworking. Com*
@Tim Olson Here's a huge collection of woodworking plans: HootWood. com I was able to build 2 sheds in my backyard with these plans so I highly recommend them.
Nice job Chris. I appreciate how you show your process while also revealing your tooling. I like this because I think sometimes these things stagnate when there are really a lot of technological advances going on; a good way for me to look at my set-up through a new lens. I just came across your work yesterday, but am tuned in for more.
This is by far the best woodworking book I have ever read, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . My woodworking teacher endorses it to all of his students. I am impressed how authors managed to write very detailed topics. I`m surprised by the material and didn`t have a tough time following the lessons..
You have made a great work with the bench and with the video, the background music and your voice make it really nice to watch, and you work so paused, it's easy to see you enjoy and love the materials.
Jesus, the music choice and pace makes it sound like this was the last thing you built before dying in a horrible accident and this bench was the only thing left for your kid to remember you by.
+Sean Robertson Hey Sean...when I built it, I didn't want to assume that I would still be around by the time I finished my next project (6 weeks is a long time). I figure I'll keep using this music...and then eventually one day I'll be right, and it will be super fitting :) Just kidding, obviously. Check out my second video. The music isn't nearly as depressing!
I'm watching your videos out of order, so this is the 3rd or 4th I've seen. I really enjoy them. From concept to design to making, excellent. They are like a video short (short stories).
Now you have to piece them all together the get the through line in all of the videos :) Just kidding...no such theme exists. At least not that I'm aware of.
hi everyone ,if anyone else needs to find out about money making wood projects try Letza Woodworker Lessons ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my m8 got excellent results with it.
i think i am going to use this for making my outdoor table. only difference i would make is i would use a thicker piece as the bench and then inset the top piece that is meant to sandwich the bench so it would run flush with the top of the bench, it would probably work better for the application i need. nice job by the way. diffinietly a very nice design. i am glad i saw your video. good editing too!.
+TheFamilyOffice Thanks...glad you enjoyed and appreciate the sub. Check out my Coffee Table build next. It was equally challenging but in a different way.
Seriously Chris, this is a wonderful video. I follow a lot of fantastic creators on UA-cam, and your production style and music selection is unique. And the bench is great. Please, please, please do keep making videos.
outstanding design. Your patience is admirable and your execution was captivating. If you're planning on repeating this bench, I would suggest to make it atleast 19" tall. That's the standard heigh on most sitting furniture. Cheers!
+Luis F Tercero Hi Luis...thank you. Yeah, I definitely made it on the shorter side. What can I say...I like the looks of low furniture, and since it was for my house. Thanks for the sub!
Lol, I'm part way through it already but had to stop to run some errands. I'm thinking about getting into wood working, I like to build stuff and create little things. I've been looking for projects to try. I wish the was a local place I could go work with to get more knowledge.
I'd recommend looking into some community/junior colleges. That is where I got my start. For a couple hundred bucks I was able to get a ton of hands on experience to make sure it was something I'd actually be into without having to buy any machinery. Another option would be to look for somebody local, friend of a friend, etc... Most woodworkers are usually pretty happy to share their passion and teach others.
Awesome, I used to build a lot on both school. I took 4 years of wood shop, then I spent a few years building homes. But small woodwork is what I really want to get into. I love watching furniture builds.
I found your channel watching a Crafted Workshop video. I must say, the style of your video is unmatched. Your voice with the music in the background and the stellar camera angles, it’s all so soothing. I thank Mr. Johnny Brooke for guiding me to your channel and definitely look forward to watching more!
Thank You, Chris! Thank you so mush for showing so much more than this video can show. You give hope! Your vision is so inspiring, beautifull and life bringing! Thank you!
I don't even know how many times I've watched this. This is such a good video - it's like watching a movie about woodworking. Everything is done with care - the woodworking, the story telling, the editing, the music. Love it. Kudos!
Hey Paul...appreciate it. Hope you've checked out the other videos as well. I think you'll like them as (or at least almost as) much. Thanks for the subscribe!
+Island surf Thanks Island Surf. You're right...it really is more of a coffee table that it just so happens that you can sit on. Thanks for the compliment and the sub!
Chris, fantastic way to do things! I love it. And your concept of repeatability over precision, is just so right. I learned a lot with you. Go Chis !!!....
Hi Chris, I like watching your style of woodworking ,it's so laid back and calming . I Know I would be pleased to have and use a piece of your work. Look forward to seeing more of your designs , Andrew
Not only did you create an incredible piece of furniture, it's a great video. There is no banjo music in our face as there is in far too many DIY instructional videos. THANK YOU!
haha...I actually do have a banjo. I just don't really know how to play it.
Maybe I'll keep it that way :-)
This video itself is a piece of art. Not only is the bench a thing of beauty, but the time and effort that translates through your quality of film, edits, music, etc.... WOW. One of the few videos on UA-cam that I have truly enjoyed recently.
This is the most relaxing video I've ever watched. Very well done!
Relaxing you say, of the 53,708 views 186 of them are mine. It's my new favorite video to fall asleep to.
+Mr Woodworker No.1 you are genius I'm totally listening to this in the hot tub later while I drink a nice woody scotch
I was thinking the same thing the whole time.

I have a great respect for your slow, careful, craftsmanship.

Thanks Jared...sorry it took me a month to respond. Apparently I was slowly, and carefully, crafting this message :)
Here are some great woodworking plans that you can try out: HootWood. com
Nice work. Keep going

Thanks...I'm sure I'll get some, and get into it at some point...I'll definitely use your suggestions as a starting point in my research.
Hello Chris My name is Pierre Rousseau, I am from Canada. I just now discovered your channel quite by accident...the kind of accident that I really like. Hey Pierre...thanks! I really appreciate the kind words. I'm glad you accidentally found me as well. Greetings from the U.S.!
Great work.

Congrats, you made see a hole new world. Thank you!!
Thanks Hugo...I appreciate the kind words! Hope you enjoy the other videos as much, and I appreciate the sub!
Cool video mate! "SUPER" relaxing video!!! I have 1 similar!!!
Hypnotic narration and slow tempo allowed for my imagination to take hold. This type of instructional "storytelling" is much needed in sea of ego driven jig making how to videos. Thank you for this video and I look forward to watching others you decide to create. Thanks, Mike
Thanks Mike...hope you dig the others as much :)
Well done. Great minimalist vibe, excellent music pairing. Narration is filled with not only technical aspects, but thoughts on what changed in the design process. I wish there were more artisan builds like this on youtube. You got a new sub for the excellent execution.

I love the clear an simple design language on that bench. Adding the angles to the top part as well, made it one
Thanks Tomster...appreciate that. Glad you dig the bench and the details :)

Thanks vinza!
Watched this to see how much better this channel has grown from the beginning and wholly smokes were you good from the beginning!! Fantastic

This video is fantastic. The production quality is one of the best I have seen. Then bench is amazing. Oh, and go Cubbies!
Thanks Howard...appreciate it!
The production quality for me is only rivalled by clickspring and that's a serious complement!
FWIW I really enjoy your choices with sound levels. The machine noise compared to the music is just right, just loud enough to hear the sound of the saw cutting the wood, but not overpowering. There is something about the sound of saw cutting wood that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Thanks Reggie. Glad you picked up on that. Totally agree, can be a soothing sound in the distance...but if too loud can be irritating.
The bench is great, but man your video production is amazingly sick! I absolutely love it. You got a new fan and sub here ;-)
you're right - it's almost like the video wasn't about making a bench at all haha

+Kelsey Dougall
Thanks Kelsey. Yeah, the pace is a little slow...I guess I want it to come off kind of the way that woodworking actually is, but without it being boring. It's a fine line that (hopefully) I can stay on the correct side of.

I think it works well in the end, yes. I've just been watching too many Diresta videos! The change in pace was nice.

+necrojoe
Thanks!
Impressive start to a new channel. I'm looking forward to more :)
Com*
@Tim Olson Here's a huge collection of woodworking plans: HootWood. com
I was able to build 2 sheds in my backyard with these plans so I highly recommend them.
practica, sencilla y elegante......practical, simple and elegant....beautiful job
Gracias....Thank you!
Just discovered your channel. I love the cinematography of your video!
And that is a very nice looking bench. Great video. Keep it up man! :)
I LOVE THIS BENCH AND VIDEO..i watch this and a few others to get me motivated and inspired when im having an off day!
Nice...that's awesome :)
Outstanding work on both the bench and video.
+Crafted Magazine
Thank you!
Nice job Chris.
I appreciate how you show your process while also revealing your tooling. I like this because I think sometimes these things stagnate when there are really a lot of technological advances going on; a good way for me to look at my set-up through a new lens. I just came across your work yesterday, but am tuned in for more.
+Brandt Hewitt
Thanks Brandt! Glad you found me and enjoyed. With any luck I should have the next project up next week.
I did....subscribe. 😀
Not only did I like your bench, but the video was very well done, very easy to watch. You have a great non threatening voice.
Thanks Gary! I found this out the hard way when I tried to rob a bank. Just kidding :)
I appreciate the compliment!
Very Frank Howarth!
+NattySawer
Thanks...huge compliment!
Exactly what I was going for!
+NattySawer I thought the exact same thing. Outstanding video and bench!
Totally I'm currently building something similar with old growth fir and maple! But I've got some 3"+ slabs
Nice...send a pic when you're finished.
I could watch videos of this type of craftsmanship all day.
i love how the cat just doesn't care
+june sun
Haha...yeah, she was pretty unimpressed at the time - though now she naps on it almost daily!
Thanks Zalito. Hope you dig the other videos as much :)
Jesus, the music choice and pace makes it sound like this was the last thing you built before dying in a horrible accident and this bench was the only thing left for your kid to remember you by.
+Sean Robertson
Hey Sean...when I built it, I didn't want to assume that I would still be around by the time I finished my next project (6 weeks is a long time). I figure I'll keep using this music...and then eventually one day I'll be right, and it will be super fitting :)
Just kidding, obviously. Check out my second video. The music isn't nearly as depressing!
Chris Salomone I liked the coffee table one with the improvised guitar. Awesome work.
Thanks Sean! It also took way less time. Glad you enjoyed!
I'm watching your videos out of order, so this is the 3rd or 4th I've seen. I really enjoy them. From concept to design to making, excellent. They are like a video short (short stories).
Now you have to piece them all together the get the through line in all of the videos :)
Just kidding...no such theme exists. At least not that I'm aware of.
Chris Salomone Done, I like your content. where you at in Cali
Im in whittier. Are you in ca too?
Yeah,up in Victorville, if you know where that is?
Sure do. By Hisperia. Or as people from LA/OC know it...about 1/4 of the way to Vegas :)
I am so confuse
just watch it like 50 more times and share it with all your friends and it will start to make sense :)
hi everyone ,if anyone else needs to find out about money making wood projects try Letza Woodworker Lessons ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my m8 got excellent results with it.
Hi so confuse, I am chris
wow. the production value here was liking watching a movie. AMAZING JOB!
Thanks Ri Mar...appreciate it :)
i think i am going to use this for making my outdoor table. only difference i would make is i would use a thicker piece as the bench and then inset the top piece that is meant to sandwich the bench so it would run flush with the top of the bench, it would probably work better for the application i need.
nice job by the way. diffinietly a very nice design. i am glad i saw your video. good editing too!.
+phillip cheung
Thanks Phillip! Sounds like a plan. If you do it...send me a picture. I'd love to check it out!
hey chris! i am a german joiner and i think this work is pretty great. cool design and worked out exactly.
+TheFamilyOffice
Thanks...glad you enjoyed and appreciate the sub. Check out my Coffee Table build next. It was equally challenging but in a different way.
Man, this is beautiful. The video, the bench, the narrative and this whole relaxing ambience. Congrats!
+Rodrigo Pessotti Maia
Thanks Rodrigo...I appreciate the sub!
Seriously Chris, this is a wonderful video. I follow a lot of fantastic creators on UA-cam, and your production style and music selection is unique. And the bench is great. Please, please, please do keep making videos.
+Corey Ward
thanks Corey! I definetely will. I appreciate the compliment and the sub.
outstanding design. Your patience is admirable and your execution was captivating. If you're planning on repeating this bench, I would suggest to make it atleast 19" tall. That's the standard heigh on most sitting furniture. Cheers!
+Luis F Tercero
Hi Luis...thank you. Yeah, I definitely made it on the shorter side. What can I say...I like the looks of low furniture, and since it was for my house.
Thanks for the sub!
No problem Chris Salomone you got yourself a follower right here. Im excited to see what you work with next. Cheers!
This is beautiful and one of the most calming videos I've ever watched. Very well done.
+CHRIS RICE
Thanks Chris! Just put up another one which is (almost as) calming. Awesome name!
I only subscribed because I like how precise you are when you cut and sand near the line you made on the wood.
+Da Montanha
Thanks Da! Appreciate the sub!
Beautiful piece. Simple and elegant
you're videos are the best woodworking videos ever. I love you you really analyze actual design and reasoning. Bravo...please keep them coming!
Thanks Ethan! Glad you liked this one...hope you enjoyed the others as much! Appreciate the sub.
What an elegant bench. I really like it. Nice to see how you came to the design, that is very inspiring. Thank you!
+Frits van Doorn
Thank you very much Frits...and by the way, awesome name!
Thank you!
Thanks!
Like your video very clearly explained.
You're very poetic the way you explain the process of making the furniture.
Very calm.
Peace
Thanks Luis...glad you dug it.
Great video. Definitely helped me develop a better understanding in which direction I want to take my woodworking.
+285runt
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the sub!
Simple, brilliant, AWESOME!! BRAVO!!
+Gabriel Viccioli
Thanks Gabriel!
I feel so calm watching this video! You have no idea. Small request could you make a bonsai table? lol
Thanks man...I'll look up what that is today and then think about it :)
sweet!
WOW .I can only a dream on a workshop like that ... amazing .
the bench is nice but looks more like a indoor table still great work !!
+Island surf
Thanks Island Surf. You're right...it really is more of a coffee table that it just so happens that you can sit on. Thanks for the compliment and the sub!
Have loved your work for a number of years. Beautiful build video.
Hey John. Glad you're liking the videos. Appreciate the sub!
I dont know what I like more.... the projects and how they turn out or the video production
Chris, fantastic way to do things! I love it. And your concept of repeatability over precision, is just so right. I learned a lot with you. Go Chis !!!....
+Ari Cunha
Thanks Ari...I appreciate the compliments...thanks for the sub!
Like your choice of music and down to earth narration. Beautiful design too
Thanks Hydra! Glad you dug it!
+Chris Salomone What is this song/music?
Hey Zach...it is just something that a buddy and I recorded specifically for the video.
Beautiful work, very simplistic in design. You are correct in saying that the bench is Japanese in nature.
+Neil Yakuza
Thanks Neil. Yeah, it wasn't intentional, but I am happy the way it came out. Might open up a new world of design for me!
Hi Chris, I like watching your style of woodworking ,it's so laid back and calming . I Know I would be pleased to have and use a piece of your work. Look forward to seeing more of your designs , Andrew
Thanks Andrew...appreciate it. Always working on more :)
