Here are some tips, tricks, and common mistakes when it comes to launching a paramotor. Always remember, if something doesn't feel right, just abort! Meanwhile, it is getting properly cold in NJ so I might have to put a windscreen and skis on the trike. 😂 Stay tuned!
Great video Tucker! Even though we know we should be getting proper training before hand, you know full well there are going to be those of us who don’t. Might as well give people the tools to succeed.👍🍻
I get the idea of discouraging people from learning from UA-cam, but people make their own choices and are better off with access to good information cause they will ultimately fly regardless if that's their intent. Infact I myself found more reason to save for formal training in some very informative videos explaining how to recover from dangerous situations. Educating people is NEVER a bad idea.

Dear Tucker Gott, I got introduced to the paramotor world by your videos after the start of the pandemic. I took it as a personal goal to learn to fly a paramotor by end of 2020. Today I finished my basic training and had my first solo flight. It was amazing. Thank you for sharing your passion with the world. Happy new year ❤️
As a novice paraglider pilot it's very nice to see this in the typical Tucker Gott high-quality picture and narration detail. I am in school and that's crucial but instructors can hardly show it from the perspectives shown in these video.
Another great vid, thanks Tucker. For me, the transition from leaning forward as the wing comes up to leaning back and relying on the thrust to keep you from falling was the hardest part of launch for me during training. I think experience and confidence helps.
I really enjoy the Tips type of video as well so by all means please do more of this type. I read the comment that some people always do reverse launches even in calm to no wind and apart from it being nearly as easy I also know some folks with shoulder impingement, muscular issues or a handicap that the Forward launch really puts uncomfortable stress on them so doing reverse launches solves that issue for them.
I'm just starting my professional training but I still value videos like this. It's always nice to get some tips and tricks from a different perspective, and it can be a good refresher too.
I have been watching your videos for about awhile now. I stumbled upon your channel by chance. I was very down and having a bad bad day and I just went to UA-cam and first thing I saw was your video, I watch it and it just made me felt better and positive just a very relaxed feeling! I like videos like this. While I'll never fly, I find the mechanics of it to be interesting. You do a very good job explaining the physic of flying a paramotor.
Awesome video dude. Personally I think rushing is the worst thing you can do. Nearly all of the launch mistakes I’ve made happened because I was rushing.
Great video Tucker. Could you also do a tutorial on turns, starting shallow and getting tighter, and then cover good exit technique. Another useful tutorial would be spot landings in the event of an engine failure, including techniques for avoiding undershooting or overshooting and correct attitude on approach etc.
Happy that you are doing this. You added plenty of warnings for idiots who think they can use only this for training. But for everybody else who is/will be using proper training this is still very helpful.
A good bucket list of landing tips would indeed be handy for us newbs, 'cause practically all kiting is a training for take-of, but you can only train for landing once you are airborne. Thanks for your content!!
This is excellent. I think Tucker is right about its not being for someone who hasn’t flown. For someone who has had a few launches (and made some of these mistakes) it’s perfect.
I am watching this for entertainment purposes. I have watched you for years. You make it look 👀 so easy. I am so impressed with your skill. There is so much to think about it. As a non pilot of a paramotor I learned a lot and have a new appreciation of what you do.
Tucker that was awesome, I now understand the basics of how the wing is manipulated to effect control..cool thing! I imagine sections of the wing like overlapping control surfaces that mix together depending on pitch, yaw inputs. Pendular stability & lead-lagcoupling.. Directional control on reverse launch has to feel like "RC plane coming TOWARDS" perception to students! "WOAH!" factor till clicks. Is so cool. Seeing the foreward lean with power comparison an undeniable view of eminent doom! Gets point across how it runs launch..like wheelbarrowing an airplane down a runway when it's ready to rotate.. Like I said, awesome "HOW it works video! Thanks!
Thanks for this video, and for recommending aviator ppg cuz ive been following your channel for years but only just took the first step to look at lesson prices a few days ago. I can not wait to do it, but i think itll be a few years before i can make the trip so Ill just take in as much as you can tell me and hopefully use it when I finally learn to fly. You're so inspiring and helpful, and give hope to a fellow jersey dweller that some day my dream of flying will come true. thanks so much again.
I love watching your videos but they always make me glad I fly PPC's instead. 91 flights now. So much easier to kite and fly, plus flying hands free is priceless. You already know how much fun touch n go's are! Haha Keep those videos coming. 😁👍
I just sewed up a wing from old bed sheets and now I need to know how to launch. Lawn mower engine and some twine and old boat seat for a chair. OK,,I got it and its 20 mph winds right now,,perfect for my first launch. Ill be right back to let you know how it went.
same, did skydiving this year and found it hard to gage when to flare leading to a lot of butt landings. Hoping the addition of a motor will make it slower and easier.

My first foray in training last week were winds that were gusting to 20 and switching direction by up to 90 degrees :). Yeah, I got dragged. Trial by fire, but at least I know what I need to work on! Other things to consider on launches: dew on the grass, weeds that snag, trimmer position, and the advantage of ensuring the center does not lag behind the sides during inflation.

Good video. Other stuff I've wrestled with is a wet wing from dew on the grass, sand or gravel in the wing, and launching in variable/nonlaminar wind conditions. In these cases, I "enjoyed" para-blending my lines from the wing first getting in the correct overhead position, then me adding power, then the wing falling out of position, and the lines wrapping in the prop. Most launches on UA-cam look perfect with very few aborts. When I flew PPG, I never had problems with flying or landing which I found to be super easy, but it was the difficulty of the launch that ultimately pushed me toward flying weight-shift trikes instead, where the launch is super easy and the landing is the challenging part. I still miss PPG though!
Thanks, I definitely learnt a thing or two here! I'm still in the early stages of PPG, despite 20 years of free paragliding, the take off is challenging. No one told me to lean back like that, and it sure makes sense. I'm going to try it. Just one thing , what you refer to as the taxi phase, would probably be better described as the ground-run (or ground-roll in aircraft). Taxiing is generally what takes place to get the aircraft lined up with the runway, before initiating power for the take off, or after the landing roll is complete. Great video!
Looks like reverse launching is the way to go. Having a bit of wind to work with makes a huge difference plus you have total control throughout AND, the very best part is there is no hurry. Take your time, feel it, set it up perfectly and then SEND IT BABY!!
