I harvested a bunch from the mountains where I live upstate NY in November 2018. Planted them the same day. Last year they sprouted on time in the spring but did not produce any flowers. This year there were some flowers which produced seeds. So it does take a few years to get going. I only take leaves for cooking so the bulb will/should multiply each year. Ramp on.

When I have transplanted mature bulbs I have had many produce nice seed heads the same year; it depends on the bulb and how good the weather is after the transplant.

In Korea you only harvest the first two mature leaves!!! We DO NOT PULL THE WHOLE PLANT OUT!!! We know how precious this vegetable is!!!!

That sounds a lot more sustainable than I was taught back this way.

There are two varieties: one has the red stem, and one does not. The red-stemmed one is stronger in flavor, and the other one is milder.

Great video thanks. I’m a rebel I’m planting them in zone 9 in may which is basically summer 😂. No choice, I could only get the bulbs now- I’m hoping my shaded area under my live oak will do it... xoxo

Good luck. I'm kind of in the same boat only just a little cooler than zone 9.

Should grow just fine but probably won’t self propagate.

I have read many times that ramps send out rhizomes to propagate, I disagree; since digging and cleaning them for the past 38 years I' never seen a radial shoot from a bulb. Older bulbs will divide into 2, or sometimes 3 plants the following season.

Garlic ramps make perfect ground covers especially for Japanese gardens! I have a theory that there’s a symbiotic relationship between garlic ramps and bamboo also.

Do you find that deer eat your forest produce?
