Chris the Amiga men with golden fingers 😃😃😃👏👏👏 I really enjoyed this video and we learn sooooo much from you this is Awesome!!!! Maybe you can telk us more about youre Commodore work back in years. Anyway, you Rock Chris!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Agree on the Furia. If you can get it working, they are fine. You just can never touch or change anything ever again if you get it working reliably.
Much happier with my A630. She has been flawless
That A630 came too late for me, and is too $ .
@@drphilxr really? I thought the price was fairly good overall. A new version is coming out with an FPU - looking forward to that one!
Excellent video Chris! I felt your pain.
ExFuriating!
Oh man, the young girl ran 5 miles and then jumped on you! Lucky guy...mostly. :-)
Wow! Feel your pain Chris! 🙄 Oh yeah the Furia. Like you had one, got frustrated and soon got rid.. No longer own an A600 machine these days. Don’t get the hate with the A600?? There’s plenty of choice of upgrades out there. Perhaps the lack of numeric keypad? Nice small form factor. Nice to see another repair vid as always. Like others have commented. Bit cheeky of the owner to put out for free hardware like a PSU etc.. 😮 Oh well… Keep up the good work 👏🏻👍🏻
back in the day the 600 broke alot of games compatibility(long before we had whdload) because it came with 2.x roms, and wasn't much in the way for Pcmcia(before ethernet and CFD.lha came about), it was hard to expand with accelerators and fast ram because they didn't stay on reliably. weak power supply. abbreviated keyboard with no keypad which iirc a few games needed keys on keypad. it was still ecs like the 500+.
@@a4000t Totally get that. I remember seeing it in Amiga Format magazine being reviewed back in 1991. The compatibility issues etc.. What I should have clarified is in the here and now, I would still favour this machine over the A500+ due to internal IDE and PCMCIA 👍🏻 Although there are still some negativity towards it in the 21st century. Each to their own 😉
@@cullmaster7361 In that case i would say the annoyance of accelerator fit would be the negative, but yes in essence it is a slightly better a500+ sans keyboard/psu. This being said the 1200 would still be better if you had to pick one. I prefer full 32bit amigas myself, A3000,4000, towers with a full proper expansion bus but to each his own.
just get an SD card! the CF card doesn't even work!
@@smoossooms The CF side on the PCMCIA will not boot. The IDE side with a CF card on a Furia will usually work, it’s the SD card side that can cause issue with a Furia. If you use another type of accelerator such as Vampire, PiStorm or ACA then it’s normally not a problem.
When did this channel go from fixing and repairing to begging for software and hardware upgrades? Hey Chris while you're at it , can you retrobright my case also?
Hiya, new subscriber. Love the irreverent commentary along with your absolute knowledge.
Thank you for the sub and welcome to the crazy train, Mona thanks you.
As an aside: electrolytics usually leak alkali (bases) if I got this right - and the “retro community” of which you are a man of renown- uses 50:50 vinegar:h2o to neutralize the pH to 7 ish…
Interestingly we all touch the alkali stains but don’t seem to get alkali skin damage/burn, so I suspect it’s weakly so
You sir are the real doctor. I just play one on TV
yes, caps are alkaline like barrel batteries, so cleaning with a acid(vinegar, lemon juice, etc) then distilled water and or Iso alcohol.
My thats a very long ide cable for the Furia to handle, I use a push on PCB type CF adapter, which has very short traces with my Furia. Keep up the great work Chris. I'm currently working on a Custom acrylic, and Carbon Fibre case, with 3d printed parts also. Gonna put my spare A500 rev 6a in it along with a Pistorm running Caffeine OS with Emu68K. It will look like a see thru A1000 case with a external PS2 keyboard 🙂
Owner can buy his own stuff
A Furia can be very easily configured with a proper startup-sequence line to allow one use BOTH 8MB of RAM and the PCMCIA slot at the same time. No need to push it down to 4MB of RAM.
i found with lage pfs3 partitions that wont mount if you reduce the size slightly seems to reslove the issue
Does pfs say a 128GB limit to partition size? I know SFS claims 128,but i found 100GB or less is reliable.
It depends on which PFS3 version. Don’t use version 18.5 as it’s known to cause corruption with small file transfers. Best to get version 19.2 👍🏻
Hmmm. Looks like I need to call Dr. Chris about a certain a600….also does the a630 need 3.x roms? I was hoping to keep my 2.05.
A630?
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration that new 68030 from RetroRewind (you have and I ordered)
yes the A630, you dislexia'd me and i thought there was another thing i need to get. 2.05 sucks it has limited hdd support in size wise,
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Depends on which version of the 2.05 Chris 😉The latter revision will go over the 4GB partition limit 👍🏻
Feel the Furia!
Hard drive cable looks a little long is the hard drive interface buffered
Just did what was needed to get it running. User can make it their own
Only time I ever swore at an Amiga was when I bought and installed a Furia which I did not run for long. Better to run it with an older OS. I never had a problem with storage cards. I have a riser board with an CD Card thingmabob hanging off it which worked out well but its not a card I would recommend other than to avoid buying one. Mines lives in a box where it will remain for the rest of my life but best thing for it is a hammer and then off to the trash. Honestly I have bought my fairshare of things for the Amiga and the only time I ever swore a bad word at an Amiga was when I ran the Furia.
Hey Chris if you really did lose 10 yrs of your life breathing that crap in think of this , the 10 yrs you lost would be the last 10 in which you could probably be bedbound dribbling and crapping yourself so every cloud and whatnot.
Seriously tho you do go above and beyond for your people and it is a pleasure to watch you in action.
just going though your older vids that ive not watched mate
Learned that. No Furia for me. Gonna try a pistorm.
or the A630 is the best one out there.
You seem to be describing odors using a glossary from Derek, the Vice Grip Garage dude.
everyone says this . Yet I know not of this person. Apparently I was told we are in the same general geographic area, which causes the slang to be similar at times.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Derek hails from the upper midwest (North Dakota, Minnesota) and has recently relocated to Tennessee. It may be that anybody who spends a fair amount of time fixing old stuff slides into similar patterns of speech. Idunno.
@@stevepoling give it the old tanya harding!
@@a4000t one big difference between them is that Mr. Edwards employs the lorena more than the tanya
Amiga OS seems to have lots of filesystem consistency problems on both real Amiga hardware and even on Vampires
Nothing like sucking up fishy leaking cap odor and some good old flux and lead fumes.. Been doing it for 30 year and i'm fin....*Twitch* *Twitch*.
Great Video agaon...will have to stick with a PiStorm I guess, lol.Wondering what temperature you use for Soldering/Desoldering on those Amiga Boards? Always leery of overdoing it myself and the Loretta Bobbit Cap removal trick works well for me so thought I'd ask. -Mark.
Depends usually 250-275 or 350-400 for the death ones
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Guessing it doesn't matter if that's Soldering on or Desoldering? I see so many ppl crank temps and I keep thinking about not lifting pads or other possible damage. Tryin to protect them Amigas, lol. -Mark.
@@deborahberi3249 sometimes i have to go 350-400 to get things OFF and clean, i dont hold heat long at all, maybe a second or so, the epoxy under a pad NEW is good for up to 500C but never does it. 35 years old, maybe 400 on a good day for 3 seconds. i put new caps on at 250-275 range, whatever my solder melts at basically.
What part number did you use for a PROM chip?
my Eproms are 27c400 AMD or Hitachi 27C4000
Chris you are a Amiga GOD, I cannot believe the "Asks" that you get when you helping some people, wanting things & Repairs, Well my issue is not so much the Furia, but I am sorry as a Former Commodore Dealer, A600 were never considered "real" Amiga's, they are cut down crap, made at end of Commodore's run, as a Cheap PC so they could get sales, Sorry if I offend some, but Commodore didn't need them, it needed NEW High End Amiga's, Chipsets & a A1200 Update to least 68030 & CD Burner instead of Floppy Disk to compete against PC's, then .. or maybe I am a bitter old dude .. All Hail the Chris !!!
The A600 was meant to be a cost reduced A500+, but in the end it cost as much, if not more than its predecessor. I have to say, though I didn't own one, I tried a neighbour's and I liked the form factor, more than the A1200 I bought. But it should have come with an 030, AGA and more RAM. No high end Amiga was going to fend off the rise of the PC for long, there were a lot of companies, including Commodore themselves, that were investing in, and improving the "open" PC platform. The proprietary hardware became the Amiga's undoing.
@@another3997 You believe what you like, I was there, I sold these Units, I had to deal with issues, CD32 was the Machine for that spot in Commodores line up, not a "Cut-Down" A500, it needed a Upgrade .. Amiga OS could have walked all over MS DOS Windows, Commodore Executives were the issue, they gave in .. Proprietary Hardware is a Issue, have you told Apple ?
@@James_T_Quirkbro get over it lol, commodore died, you sound like it killed your wife lol
I love amiga as much as the next person, but like, chill out lmao
@@bronwaith I am Chill, It is My Opinion, as I stated in Opening, Some will not like it, Does Not mean I cannot Voice it ..
You are way too nice Chris, spending your week evenings and whole weekend on that board and accessories, and buying stuff that the owner should have paid for instead…
FURIA is 💩
