    Not only has mankind created opera that sounds this ethereal but we have combined it with imagery that elevates it all to a higher plain. God bless Terrence Malick and all who get him.

      @@carlosfandango2419 This piece is the Lacrimosa from the 'Requiem (mass) for my friend', composed by Zbigniew Preisner. There's something so incredibly stupid, vulgar and ignorant about people who invariably associate music with some idiotic film instead of with the composer. Particularly if the music has already been in existence for decades or even centuries. Oh and by the way: it's 'higher plane', not 'plain'.

      I disagree, but only slightly. I don't believe that people can be pure evil, any more than they can be purely good. We as a species and as individuals are capable of great evil and great good - to say that some people are pure evil also says that they are beyond redemption, and I don't believe anyone is beyond redemption.

    This may be one of the most beautiful songs ever written...
    Some context for non-music people; Zbigniew Preisner wrote this for his friend, a Czechoslovakian filmmaker, after his passing.
    Requiem Mass's are dark symphonies written for those who have passed, by those who loved them, as a work of mourning and respect. The final movement in these is a Lacrimosa, which is focussed entirely on mourning; essentially, it is the musical equivalent of a goodbye. Preisner's love for his friend was as intense as this song.
    In short, Zbigniew Preisner really loved his friend.
    I only hope I can ever love someone that much someday.

I remember when I first saw “days of heaven” and couldn’t believe the beautiful cinematography and the exceptional music that went with it. It was nominated for best movie soundtrack that year but didn’t win for some reason.

    Anyone else read (and understand) those parts of Martin Heidegger when he talks about the being of things? Anyone else read (and understand) those parts of David Bentley Hart where he argues for the identification of the active presence of being as a direct (and true) manifestation by God?
    What we witness around us, throughout every indivisible span of time and in all things, is the direct manifestation of a supernatural reality. There is absolutely nothing natural about natural reality.

    • @M_Faraday
      @M_Faraday 8 років тому +19

      Yes, though more literally it means tearful: "Lacrima" = "Tear". My point was just that "Lacrimosa", since it is feminine, on its own would mean "Tearful lady". "Day of tears" is a mistranslation.

    • @ES-qy2ju
      @ES-qy2ju 8 років тому +15

      I think it refers to the version of the song.

    • @_J4CK4L_
      @_J4CK4L_ 8 років тому +24

      I have studied Latin for 5 years at a scientific Liceo in Rome, and can confirm to you all that Faraday is correct. It literally means "full of tears". Even in current Italian "-osa" added to the end of a word means it is "full of it", similar to say: Fluff - Fluffy. But in this specific case it is even more related to a person.

    • @mkkm1701
      @mkkm1701 8 років тому +16

      But the lyrics go:
      "Lacrimosa, Dies Illa..."
      Although Dies is masculine gender, when referring to a specific day it can be feminine, thus being congruent with adjective lacrimosa. As in - "That day, full of tears (mournful) etc..."

    When i hit my small foot finger
    When I broke my favorite cup
    When I lost my key and wait for mom 3h until she came from work,
    When I fail my exam with 1 point,
    When i wait the bus for 1h long and then it comes full of ppl that it just don't stop for me ,
    When I see my only best friend go out with someone ,
    When i wake up at 7 am but i close my eyes for 1min i found it 8 am and am damn late for class ,
    Oh shit I have so much disasters gi among ...

    If Paul Thomas Anderson is the new Kubrick, Malick has been the new
    Tarkosky. I'm sure Malick got influence from him, check The Mirror or
    Stalker...

    In this temporal realm we suffer a disconnect from the Fullness , like a leaf fallen from the Tree of Life . . a leaf decomposing , deconstructing the flawed matter of which we are made . . then we separate into our essential parts , able to Return to Source , up there out there to the always expanding branches of the sacred Tree ~*~

    Lacrimosa die illa
    Qua resurget ex favilla
    Judicandus homo reus
    Huic ergo parce, Deus
    Pie Jesu Domine
    Dona eis requiem.
    Translation:
    Ah! That day of tears and mourning!
    From the dust of earth returning
    Man for judgment must prepare him
    Spare, oh God, in mercy spare him!
    Lord, all pitying, Jesu blest
    Grant them Thine eternal rest.
