    For comparison purposes, Chris rated Foundations of Rome a 6.5 (wasn't a fan of its over-production), and Tom rated it a 9.

      As someone who owns Foundations of Rome, I can appreciate the fact it was expensive and is a pain to travel with. The 2 point difference is rough but its a fair opinion. I think the game play is incredible and the table presence is so epic ... that personally I justified it. If game play wasn't as good as it is, this would have hurt my soul. Metropolis is far more approachable for everyone from a financial point and I really like that they came out with this.

    I'm actually a little surprised there wasn't a comparison to Rebuilding Seattle. Obviously a very different game but population as a commodity is an integral feature of both games. I passed on both Foundations of Rome and Rebuilding Seattle but I might pick up this one. Or at least add it to my neverending list of games I would buy if I ever got a second job and had no time to play all the games I already have.

      Definitely Monuments and the new roads ones.
      Maybe Hidden objectives, Player roles, Trading/stealing.

      @thedicetower  9 днів тому +3

      I get it seems silly, but I still stand by it. Every table I see playing it has to stand up at some point to see if there are lot markers behind the massive buildings. I just saw pictures today of the Castle Panic Deluxe and had the same thought: I would never consider paying for that nor want to store it for the game it is even though it's the same gameplay as the standard Castle Panic. -Chris

    • @grog3514
      @grog3514 8 днів тому

      After seeing what the tiles art looks like, no way I will get this. The most tedious part of the game is calculating civic building points. In FoR it's easy to differentiate buildings by their size, shape, color, and tags. In this version, those colors will look like a giant blob I think. I can't say for sure because no one has released a picture of a completed game for some reason.

  • @namelessfire

    I highly disagree that Foundations of Rome's production is a knock against its score. Rome has a great, functional, and legible production that adds to the game. I'm glad I have my copy of Rome, but I am also glad people will take the game seriously -- or they can actually afford -- this edition.

    • @xshadowscreamx
      @xshadowscreamx 10 днів тому

      It’s not just the price but the how easy it is to buy. Foundation of Rome can only be brought through jumping through hoops like making a credit card, putting money on it, sign up to crowd funding website, do all the details. Buy the game within a certain time period and wait for many months. If you miss out wait for another few years until the next printing. I wish I can just buy it at retail. Buy Rome in 1 minute.
