- Ares, the latest development in planetary exploration is a massive mobile outpost for all your exploration needs! With top speed of over 50 m/s, spacious cargo bay, crew capacity of 26 Kerbals, a Science Lab and an ISRU it can serve as a supply base and a centre of operation for your planetary missions. It also features a break room with stashes full of snacks to keep your crew mood high!
This mission was conducted with accordance to the Clean Kerbal Space Treaty and relied on fully reusable launch vehicles to achieve its goals.

Just set your Pe at 20 km, more or less. It should work :)

I love how sophisticated the launching and return of each stages were and how well it was planned. But forgetting to bring the vehicles to mars was just a casual oversight.

That reminds me of my own Minmus Clipper heavy rover. I was actually able to modify the design such that it could quite easily fulfill all of those "surface base' contracts

Hmmm. Here I was thinking the large MK3 cargo bay was the biggest space possible for rovers. How wrong I was. :) Awesome..... just awesome.
Do you know that these big ass wheels are the fastest in the game? I am not kidding.
By tapping A and D rappidly, you can achieve insane speeds. Like, 120 m/s isnt a problem.
Try it for yourself if you dont believe me.

I made a much smaller much-more basic version of this craft once I dubbed the "Planet Learner", since my intention was to plop it down on a planet and drive everywhere with it.. Sadly, I only did so on kerbin, but managed to drive the thing all the way up the mountains.. It took forever, but I took a nice screenshot. As well as some others I made for fun with my other projects.

A few weeks ago EJ_SA challenged me to build and fly an SSTO capable of delivering a full orange fuel tank to an orbit of at least 100k, then return to the KSC and land on top of the VAB. _(indestructible facilities are aloud)_ my submission is still in development but from what I can see you work faster than me :P

I'm on the prowl looking for a design of mobile base, and yours stuck vividly in my mind so I came again, looking for inspiration.
It seems that nobody has build the monster that I'm envisioning yet: It has to hold 9000 units of ore, 10,000 units of liquid fuel, be mobile on the surface, have living space, fly to orbit if needed be and have enough extra fuel storage for that. Its for a mod I'm playing, in which you have to mine ore and ship it to make cash, Jeb has his own private space company, so everything costs, even fuel.
Went through 2-3 iterations so far, all seem to be lacking so I'm back to drawing board.

Mysteries of stock aerodynamics I guess. In reality it's much harder to do a proper interplanetary reentry on Mars.
