I'm 70, sold hi-fi between '76 and '83. I never "collected" vinyl. That is, I've never needed two copies of any album. That said, I have multiple copies of many albums simply because before I left Seattle for Kentucky in 2011, my common weekend activity was to peruse the plethora of estate sales for a few years. And nobody wanted records then. I ended up with thousands of LP's that I bought "by the box", typically breaking down to ten cents a record. However, I gave away over half of them when I left town, most going to goodwill, etc. And I'm STILL weeding out the "junk". Fortunately, I'm retired so I have the time. I still have four CLEAN copies of Whipped Cream and Other Delights. One's mono. 🤣
You really got some wonderful deals during that time. It's wonderful that you can make a little money while making others happy with your extra records. I probably don't need multiple copies of the same records but I do enjoy having Sgt Pepper in mono and stereo. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
In regards to Dan Fogelberg, I would highly recommend his 1979 album 'Phoenix'. There's literally not a single weak track on it, and originals can be found in very clean condition easily for 1 or 2 dollars. Thanks for another excellent video @Melinda
Good video!! I think a lot of record collectors been there. Good for you! I been doing for this for a while I have less and less records and I don’t regret it. I feel like I enjoy mi records more then before. When I looked Back when I was doing panic purchases. now I don’t have that anxiety to buy just for buying. My friends told me I’ll regret it but not at all. All my noise records are gone and more when you have a nice setup you want to get the best of your records and system. I’m blessed that I have a dedicated room and even tho I have space for more records having more space after the purge it feels good. Cheers!
Great video Melinda! You know as I’m getting older I’m starting to look for music my parents loved and I grew up listening to. My dad was a country fan so any Hank Williams, Johnny Cash I have to get them if I don’t already have them. My dad was a huge Buddy Holly and Elvis fan. I have a ton of Elvis in good condition but all our Buddy Holly and Hank Williams records are pretty scratched up from constant playing so I’m trying to find old Buddy Holly records now. My mom was also a big fan of Elvis, Barry Manilow, Gladys Knight & the Pips, the Righteous Brothers, The Letterman, Diana Ross and anything Motown. I’m buying now them to replace our much played and very much loved old records. Hearing those old songs takes me back to being a kid and listening to the music with my folks. I’m blessed they both loved music so much. It was my mom who suggested I join band in the 4th grade and I’m so happy she did. Some of my best times in life were in the high school marching band and concert band. I feel like my parents are still around when I drop that needle on an album they loved. Plus it takes me back wonderful memories of a simple life of being a kid with no worries. I don’t think you’re crazy giving your records to your daughter. I do that too! I had an original sealed copy of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon I gave my daughter. I have my original copy in fantastic condition so I gave her the extra one. No regrets! We have to purge our music at some point and who better to give our extras to than our girls! You always look so beautiful in your videos. I’m still envious of your beautiful hair. Have a blessed week and thank you for this video. ❤️Deb
Being able to pass the records on to my daughter makes this a lot easier. ♥️ I agree that when I hear Barry Manilow, I feel like my mom is around. It brings back so many memories. ♥️ Being in a marching band was such a blast. I played the tenor sax and it was such a cool experience. Thank you and take care.
Unfortunately sometimes we have to have a careful look at our collection. Some albums are kept purely for sentimental reasons. We remember where and who we were when we brought them and they bring back precious memories....but a stock take has to be done either for a lack of storage space or for monetary reasons. Time has come for me to have a serious think of what needs to go and those who will remain......you have inspired me to do it. Keep well.
Dear Ms. M: I had a feeling this day would come. Am glad to see you are shedding a few to your beautiful daughter. I for one, always bookmark your videos for my own collection down the road. Thank you very much for your wonderful video!
So jealous of that Sgt Peppers with the extra disc, I missed it when it came out - I keep hoping to come across one but not yet 😊 I can’t believe you found it for $9!
That was a lucky find. If you live near a Dillards department store, check them out. They were selling vinyl and suitcase players. That's where I found my copy. Thank you and take care.
I still have my 2 disc anniversary LP sealed as well as both versions of the sealed picture disc, Japanese Flag OBI, German Horzu with the white & gold Odeon label & striped inner & US mono.
Hi Melinda - Your daughter is getting some nice titles & as you say will hopefully get some others with those she doesn't want. I like to trade-in albums & cds two or three times yearly & use my cash for concert tickets ! Have a great day 😊
One thing that sort of killed me on vinyl, or at least curbed my buying, was following the hype that another pressing would be better than the original or what I already had - case in point - the Sgt Peppers remasters, or Beach Boys Pet Sounds Analogue Productions, or MOFI Bitches Brew - the pressings I already had were good enough
You're taking good care of those records! Most of them have a transparent outer sleeve. I don't see that very often. The digital prediction could be right. At least for me: after a few years of "do it or not do it" I went all-digital. Tapes, LPs, CDs, cassettes, all gone - but not the music. I converted everything I wanted to keep to digital lossless flac files. From a wall with thousands of albums to a small harddrive with a backup. Only 200 CDs remain on which I love all tracks. I still have my very first cassettes with hits recorded from a transistor radio in 1976, also converted and thus preserved. It sounds awful but it brings 1970s high school years back. By the way, one thing remains in a lossless file collection: duplicates 😊
It would bring back so many memories to hear a transistor radio again. 😃 At some point in the future, it will have to go to digital. Those old tapes will eventually deteriorate. Thank you for the kind words. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
I totally understand purging records. I recently purged most of my collection but had a handful of records I just couldn’t let go. You picked up some great records! You can never go wrong with 1970s Barry Manilow! I’m a huge fan of Dan Fogelberg and recommend maybe picking up a few more of his albums. “Phoenix” is probably my favorite by him and I highly recommend that one for you. There’s a half speed master of Phoenix but in my opinion it sounds terrible. Forever by KISS is an amazing song written by Paul Stanley and Michael Bolton! As always, great video!
You are already the second person to recommend Phoenix. There was a copy of it in the dollar bins. If it's still there the next time I go, I will pick it up. Thank you and take care.
Loved the new video. You are quite the collector now, so experienced. I have been letting go of music I have doubles of, whether it's CD or vinyl, that I either keep 1 or the other. You gotta let it go girl. 😊
Great video and kudos to you for taking on the task of weeding some albums out of your collection. I’m not one for selling records, so the idea of passing on some quality records really resonated with me. I like that you brought a few new gems into the collection that bring you some joy. I don’t mind overdosing on nostalgia from time to time. I remember when I was in junior high, I had a girlfriend obsessed with the song Coppa Cabana. I probably wouldn’t by an album, but I no doubt would jump on a clean single for the jukebox. Happy Fall.
I remember Coppa Cabana very well. 😀 My mom had Barry playing all of the time. ♥️ I think our daughter will be thrilled with the jazz records she will be getting. That way, the records are still in the family. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
My county recently went wet (finally) and a fantastic new place just opened up called "Oak and Match". It's an amazing bourbon and cigar bar that would give any big city place a run for their money. And the entry to the cigar smoking section is right out of prohibition. I bring this up because it is run by two couples, and one of them is into vinyl, especially the older stuff (and I mean back to the prohibition days, which they love). Though the Sinatra period seems to be their sweet spot. It's fun to pick out some of that stuff from my collection and give it to them. And I have multiple copies of a lot of that stuff from all that estate sale shopping I did when I was in Seattle. These albums usually have a very low resale value on Discogs, so it's a lot of fun to give them to local people you know will actually appreciate them. I'm gonna try to get them to set up a turntable at the bar to spin the occasional disk. BTW, their drink selection is amazing and extremely tasty. They really put their heart into this place and it shows when you watch them make drinks. I consider them new friends. And it's easy to do in a low population area and in a place as friendly as Kentucky.
If I had just one copy of each record you showed us here, it would be impossible to depart with any of them. Each and everyone are classics. The highlight here for me was when you presented Dan Fogelberg’s Greatest Hits. One of my all time favorite albums, and let me say, you hit a real soft spot with that one! As far as eliminating records from your collection, I can relate to all you stated because I am now in the same predicament myself. Fantastic presentation once again! 👏💯🏆😁
Thankfully, I have other copies of these classic records making this much easier. I had been looking for a clean copy of the Dan Fogelberg Greatest Hits album. I can't believe I found a stunning copy for $1. I was thrilled. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Hi Melinda - I am a massive Dan Fogelberg fan. I can recommend a number of his albums. Souvenirs (my first exposure to Dan - brilliant), Captured Angel, Nether Lands, The innocent Age, Phoenix, The Wild Places - all are tremendous albums. If you dont want to go that way he has a great 4CD box set you can also pick up - highly recommended. Same Old Lang Syne - yeh its a classic. "I met my old lover at a grocery store" - you know the rest, its just a lovely story. Dan was a class act and taken from us way to early. I have decided to sell off a lot of my records, I'm a CD person really, although I do buy the odd record. I'm not playing them a lot and you can get really good money for records at the moment. Cheers Doug (from Adelaide, Australia)
I understand completely. This is a perfect time to sell records you aren't playing. I will check into those Fogelberg records. They are very affordable and most likely very good. I know I enjoy his hits. He was taken way too soon. Thank you and enjoy your weekend.
Great video, I’m constantly running out of space! I really liked your comments on K Mart! I grew up in Kingsport TN, so not too far from y’all in Kentucky and spent a lot of time in K Mart, Hills as well as Record Bar! Also Fogelberg was great, Windows and Walls album is great, and cheap!
I also remember Hills and Record Bar. Every once in a while, I will see a record with that Record Bar sticker still on it. Those were the days. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
I think we like what we've grown familiar with. With that said, try listening to Dan Fogelberg & Tim Weisberg: Twin Sons of Different Mothers. Late 1970's mostly instrumental album.
Thank you for the suggestion. It's hard to dislike a Dan Fogelberg song. ♥️🤗 I think my daughter will be very excited to receive these. Thank you and take care.
I've had similar purges in the past. At some point, I just realize that I don't need certain records. It is definitely cathartic for me to get rid of stuff I don't listen to as much. And like you said now I have room for more stuff that I will enjoy more.
I recently went through my collection to pull albums that I had two or more pressings of, mainly because I was running out of space. Some of these carried sentimental value, usually an original copy that belonged to my parents or ones I bought when I was a kid that have been upgraded. A few mono vs. stereo, cover & vinyl condition etc. What I found most difficult was deciding which ones to keep and which ones to let go. I decided to donate what I pulled to my local thrift where I've found so many great records for the past few years. That made it easier but it was still a tough decision.
You really make sense. I wish that I could bring myself to thin out my collection. I really don't have room for any more shelving units, but I still have room for more records. I do have multiple copies of some album, but my reasons are that I have sealed copies for the future, with copies to play. There is a uniqueness to certain records which makes sense for collecting multiple copies. One album for instance is the original pressings of Dave Mason's "Alone Together". This album was originally pressed on Marbled colored vinyl, and no two copies look the same. I have several copies displayed on my shelves, which also include Friday Music's horrible attempt at reproducing this album, which ended up as smoky color vinyl. Then there is the recent anniversary edition which is disappointingly on just color vinyl. I am displaying both beauty and the atrocities. Then there is my multiple copies of David Seville & The Chipmunks' first LP, "Let's All Sing With The Chipmunks". These were originally pressed on clear red vinyl, in both stereo and mono. There was also the black vinyl pressings which are harder to find. There was a time that when I found any of them, at an affordable price, I could pass them up. There is a history about the album and the first single. It was the song "The Chipmunks Song(Christmas Don't Be Late)". The song and single singlehandedly saved the collapse of the Liberty record label. The album was the icing on the cake. It not only made Ross Bagdasarian(David Seville) rich but it also allowed Liberty Records to continue to give us some really unforgettable records. It also made Al, Si and Ted, the owners and creators of Liberty Records, multi-millionaires, beyond their dreams when they sold the label to Transamerica. Oh, and I have to mention that Ross Bagdasarian also came from my hometown of Fresno, CA. So, there are definitely reasons for keeping multiple copies of certain records. Another great video! Thank you Melinda!
x2 for space issues as well as the evolution of my listening habits. My new collecting mantra: "All killer, no filler." So, I'm in the process of purging and am sometimes shocked by what I'm willing to part with. Noise upgrades, finding and keeping OGs to replace inferior re-presses, etc...those are ongoing. But, the purge has included some classics.
Hi Melinda, I had a brand new, Mono pressing of A Hard Day’s Night which I had to let go because it sounded so bad. I love the songs and it is a classic Album but most CD and modern vinyl versions sound terrible. The Dire Straits LP Is a tricky one. Side 1 begins so quietly that finding a pressing that doesn’t have clicks and surface noise is difficult. I actually only listen to it in CD for this reason. The main reason that I did not release my most recent music on vinyl, is because it is has such ambient, quiet, meditative sequences and it would probably defeat the purpose of the album itself. Some albums suit the CD better than vinyl and I would say a lot of classical falls into this area. It all comes down to the mastering quality with sensitivity to the format. We all know how variable vinyl pressings can be and the same definitely applies to CDs. What amazed me recently was the difference in quality between lossless streaming FLAC versions of several artists albums and they didn’t sound as good as either vinyl or CD playback. I think some CDs sound appalling ( most of the early Beatles CDs are, to my ears, unlistenable ) and the same seems to be true for Vinyl and even hi fidelity streaming. It isn’t always the source material at fault. It is all down to the whole process of recording, mixing, mastering for the particular format, then, of course, the playback system itself. Another great video Melinda. I enjoy every one of yours! Best wishes!
I agree with what you are saying and CD's do have some positives for sure. ♥️ I'm going to wait and see how the Dire Straits MoFi record sounds before letting go of my original. Thank you and take care.
Yes, it's hard to let go of original copies but if a reissue sounds better, then I will make an exception. Again, it's so hard to let go of an original. Lol. Thank you and take care.
I get the idea of purging and my collection can’t hold a candle to yours. I also tend to give doubles to my sons. I bought small collection from a family member this summer and if any of the records were in really bad shape I just tossed them. Speaking of Kiss, I will be seeing them yet again this week, but for the last time. Another good idea for a video 👍. Have a great week MM!
Wow! Enjoy the show. It's hard to believe they will no longer tour. The end of an era. 🥲 I'm sure your son appreciates the records. I know my daughter does. Thank you and take care.
I could have bought nearly all of them at that antique store. They were only $1 each. 😃 He was a wonderful artist. I'm sure they are all worth having. Thank you and take care.
Hello Melinda, It can be hard to let go of records in one's collection (mine just keep growing...) - BUT it's good when you can give the albums to your kids (like I do too). If I keep more than one copy of an album, I normally prioritize: - My original copy (many bought in the '70s when I was a teenager - there are often memories connected to this) - The best sounding version of the album (often an audiophile re-release) - Versions w. special "accessories" (signed copies, poster etc.) (I must admit that some albums I have more than 3 of...) I too bought the Bill Evans Riverside Box - and it sounds great. BUT if I at some point can get all the albums in 33 rpm versions that sounds as good as the best OJC's, I'd probably would pass/sell the box on. Over time I get more and more annoyed with the tendency to split the album up in a way the artist didn't wanted it to be. I find it breaks up the experience of the music in order to achieve an audible - but often limited - acoustic advantage. Kevin Gray has shown us how good 33 rpms can sound with the Kirsten Edkins album. Others should learn from this. Sincerely - Claus
Kevin Gray is doing an amazing job. I personally don't mind a 45 rpm record but I understand why others aren't fans. They are also usually more expensive. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I have been collecting for 50 years and not stopping, its My Life. Unfortunately Folks are experiencing what brought Vinyl down before. The Expensive upkeep and storage problems and Cd's are making a slow comeback. They will have to pry My Records from My cold dead body lol. Awesome Video! I feel your Pain and Joy. Happy Collecting!!!!!
I've been collecting forever, even hard-core during the CD Era, where every haul included a grail. But past couple years have been run of the mill or totally dry at thrift stores. Today, I found a bunch of grails at a thrift store - dollar apiece. I'm still on cloud 9. Downward Spiral ( orig 94 promo), 4 different Talking Heads, Combat Rock, Let's Get It On, Christian Death, Rush-moving pics, kraftwerk-autobahn, 2 Allman bros, etc. Keep checking thrift stores, even if you despise seeing Mitch Miller and Andy Williams for the umpteenth time, because all of the above, was mixed in with that junk lol
Super video, I am always trading records, just about every time I buy a new record when I bring it up to the counter, I hear "so what you got to trade today?" Thanks for sharing the great info. Peace.

I'm on a mission to get rid of doubles. I am done buying multiple copies of albums. Its a long process but I'm listening to all the various copies I have of albums and keeping the best sounding and getting rid of the rest. No more variants, no more keeping something just because its rare. Its got to be the best sounding to keep. I've got about 600 listed for sale on discogs right now..and will likely be selling them bit by bit for many years to come since vinyl isn't an easy sell. I think its great giving the records you don't want to your daughter. My kids are still too young and I've thought about keeping records to give to them one day but it takes up a lot of room that i don't have doing that.
I completely understand and respect your mission. You will make a lot of people happy and I hope you make some good money too. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
There’s a select few titles I have duplicates of. If I have a noisy copy I look for a replacement and either ditch the album or save it for framing. I agree, space is an issue. Every collector faces this issue. One thing I’m doing currently is playing every album in my collection. They’ve been played once by me.
I'm letting go of noisy copies and some duplicates to start with. After that, I may let go of records that I don't absolutely love. Hopefully, that will more than free up enough space for future records. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda, I've been shedding many records, starting about 2 y ago. I just need the best version of each, and whatveer I never listened to or never cared for, were gone. Quality always tops quantity... great video!
Those are some great albums departing...but if you have multiples theres no need as you said to have those you are parting with. I haven't gotten a Dark Side repop yet..I have a fair original but that is one you want to be dead quiet as you said. As for the incoming...theres nothing wrong with Barry Manilow...we have ALL heard his work whether it's on the records or the umpteen commercial jingles he created. I recently got a sealed copy of one of the albums too..hard to go wrong for 3 bucks. The 2 gatefold greatest hits and the live albums cover most of the best stuff. As to parting with stff...a good reason would be space as you said...but those gatefolds take up room that could otherwise be occupied with something else🙂 A great video as always Melinda🙂
I agree. Gatefolds are cool but they take up more space. I'll let go of some duplicates and hopefully that will free up some room for me and make our daughter very happy. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
At some point, I would love to own one. I just received a vacuum machine less than two years ago for Christmas so I am going to use it for now. Thank you and take care.
I assume you were just careless and know that cleaning does not do any vinyl repair. I only mention this error to prevent someone new to vinyl from forming erroneous concepts.
@@richardelliott8352I know it won’t do repair but ultrasonic cleaning works better at getting rid of clicks and pops due to dirt. If the record is damaged, there is nothing we can do any more. Thanks for reminding us.
Hey Melinda! Nothing wrong with a good purge. How are you going to do your purge? Will you just take the easy route and get bottom dollar at a used record store, or sell on Discogs, etc?
In my old collection I could never get rid of an album I also had 2 large rooms to store everything. Now as I have limited my space I am constantly looking at what I can pull out of the collection. Some becomes VCLT and some I bring to my local shop for credit. It is still not easy but it is easier I just love blind buying too much lol. I’m my own worst enemy
I would love to have a large room with lots of shelves. I doubt I would let go of any of these records if that was the case. I don't blame you for keeping your records upstairs. Hopefully, you haven't had to let go of records you would prefer to keep. Thank you and take care.
I applaud you Melinda, purging is sometimes hard to do but in the long run will make a better collection for you and definitely will make your daughter happy. Enjoyed you video. Take care.
I'm kind of in the same boat Melinda. I have a certain amount of space for records and when the cubes get too full it's time to purge. I've already started pulling a pile for my next trip to the record store.
The more I buy, the harder it will be to let things go. For now, I still have some duplicate copies. I'm sure my daughter will be very happy. 😃♥️ Thank you and take care.
Great video again. I'm glad you are enjoying your new equipment. I have a remastered edition of Dark side of the moon which I bought to replace my old damaged copy and I really didn't like it, then I managed to find a good 1979 copy which sounds great. Now I'm left with 3 copies so I will have to let the remastered copy go at some point. Hope your daughter enjoys her new vinyl.
Ringwear adds character to older copies of classic albums on vinyl. If there’s surface noise along and has loud pops and clicks it’s gone from my collection. I don’t mind to light ticks in vinyl as long as the playing surface is clean. I use anti statics sleeves for my records.
my solution to the storage issue was to rent storage space for the over-spill. i now only keep 500 rock/blues/ jazz lps, and about a thousand classical in my listening room. I rotate in and out the classical lpsl most often.
watchin your vids over the past year, its obvious you don't need the cash. so, passing them onto to your daughter seems like the best choice. vinyl collecting is fun! ❤
I agree it is SO hard to get rid of records! We are in a place here where we need to downsize and look at relocating in the next year or two. The records are only a small part of it, but it's all just more "stuff" to deal with. I'm putting many of my duplicates aside to either give to my youngest (when she gets room to have a system at her house) or use for trading in. I've been so *un*impressed with the first two Steely Dan UHQRs that I will be selling them once they go out of print. (The SACDs sound nearly identical and cost over $100 less.) Your antique store finds remind me of a store I visited in Colorado Springs back on July 30th--Independent Records on S. Academy. Unfortunately they were having a going out of business sale with a discount on top of it. The bins looked somewhat empty but I still came away with a 13 used records and one new for around $90. Most were $2.99, others were $3.99, and only two were more. I only had one that had too much groove wear but the rest are good players. Idea--how about an episode with some of your favorite colored vinyl?
I'm sad to hear that one of the records stores in Colorado Springs is going out of business. 🥲 I'm glad you picked up some deals. It is tough to get rid of records but finding yet another shelf to store them on is difficult as well. I'm starting with duplicates and records that are a little too noisy. I have made videos discussing colored vinyl in the past but if I find an interesting angle, I will create another one. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
It’s interesting that you bring up space. That’s why a lot of people are sticking to CDs instead of records. I might have the same amount of records as you, but it takes up much smaller amounts of space. I have a lot of autographed pictures however, that cover my wall all over the place. Knowing that when I go to comic cons, I will only have just photos with them now because I just have no more space for autographs unless it is a super famous person like Sylvester Stallone.
Thanks for video again. Just a question for you. Have you heard new version on net by two McCartney songs, New and I dont know (from Egypt station) now with John Lennon AI made it possible. Hear them and tell your opinion....
I have heard those songs. They aren't classics but I do like them. The new Beatles song isn't quite as good as Free As A Bird was. Maybe it will grow on me. Thank you and take care.
Another great and informative video, Melinda. The only album I have 2 copies of is The Stooges "Funhouse". I have the picture disc and double versions from the 'o00's. Your version, as mentioned in a previous video, is much more impressive!
I am downsizing as well, too many Rush albums, I remember back in the day, " there's always room for one more ". I reside in Hamilton just outside of Toronto. I am in the process of loading the car with Rush. Tell Philip I'm on my way with the collection for him 😅. Neil Peart would be laughing btw, he had a guarded serious protection from being in the Limelight, but like Lifeson and Ged, he was a teddy bear at ❤. Keep those Barry records spinning. Best to you and yours
You may soon have to thin out your music related shirt collection as well!! LOL Would like to see the full Floyd design; maybe thumbnail the art of shirt of the day. You are good about showing Record Store Tees.
I was lucky and started buying original pressing jazz records 25 years ago. I bought from the Jazz Record Center in NYC. I have that Coltrane in original pressing. Was like $75 years ago. not sure what it would go for now, but don't care because I would never sell. Good luck selling your records. I've got an original pressing of Introducing Kenny Burell on Blue Note. If you get a chance, listen to one of those. It literally feels like he is in the room. Digital can't create that sound. Hard to describe but it has an "airiness" about it.
I have an original of Lee Morgan's The Sidewinder and it's spectacular. I know what you're saying. Wow. Congrats on having those records. True treasures. ♥️
You make a great point. Eventually those old tapes will wear out and won't be available to be used anymore. That will be a sad day. Thank you and take care.
I did get new speakers. 😃 They are MoFi Sourcepoint 10 speakers. If you look back at my videos, I discussed them in full a few weeks back. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda, I just finished listening to Face Value that arrived from Acoustic Sounds today and you will not be disappointed! It sounds great, very dynamic, detailed, and quiet vinyl, and is a fabulous listen. In addition, the 45 RPM Mofi of Dire Straits is wonderful and an excellent upgrade over your promo copy. Cheers
I started to explore Dan Folgelberg's catalog in depth over the last year and wasn't disappointed. I think he's a bit underrated and many of the great tracks get lost in the shadow of the singles. If you can pick up other ones for a buck it's worth the investment. Forever, by Kiss, co written by Michael Bolton. Yes yes yes! I love that track. That is a good find. Great video as always!
I love SoulTrane, such a great album, I have a prestige clear blue vinyl version. Great video Melinda - your daughter is very lucky. 🙂 I also purge about once a year.
Hello, Melinda. Where did you buy the shelves that are usually behind you in some of your videos (beside that gorgeous chest of drawers with the silver Infinity speakers on top)? I am in need of good, but not bank-breaking, shelving. Please advise if you can. Also, what a lucky daughter, not because of her new gifted records, because she has such a thoughtful, supportive, and loving mom. YOU ROCK!
I actually bought them from Walmart. My husband anchored them to the wall so that they wouldn't collapse from the weight of the records. They were about $50 each and I stacked one on top of the other (again, anchoring them so that they can't fall). Thank you and take care.
I do have multiple copies of Sgt Pepper. I don't need multiple copies of the same exact pressing. Lol. I do enjoy having the Beatles in mono and stereo. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
I need to thin out the herd. I’ve currently got 17 milk crates of albums and I keep buying more record racks and am running out of space! So I definitely need to do some weeding out. Lately I’ve had the Barry Manilow song “Looks Like We Made It” stuck in my head. I didn’t realize it was on the “This One’s For You” album until I just watched your video. 0:02 I actually have that album, got it in a gifted bulk collection years ago. I’ve mentioned that a favorite record store is going out of business after 40 years (owner is retiring). Right now everything 25% off. He has Barry Manilows Greatest Hits album for $4.99. I kind of want to get it, but I don’t know, a guilty pleasure for sure. But it’s Barry Manilow!
I think every collection should at the very least have a Barry Manilow Greatest Hits album. If it's still available, go for it. ♥️ I understand the running out of space situation. I'm letting go of duplicates for that reason. My loss will be my daughter's gain. Thank you and take care.
I do fully understand this. There a few reasons why I "wouldn't" get rid of a specific LP (say if it's been in the family; or has some special meaning etc). However, you're correct -- if a record has escalated in value and you feel compelled to sell it why NOT. As an aside, I struggle with this same idea with my guitar gear. Same concept. Great post though!
For some reason, it's hard to let go of some of these records. Thankfully, they are going to my daughter so that makes this so much easier. Thank you and take care.
Hi, as a record collector since the 60's I have amassed some 1500 LP's. I really enjoy your adventures, reminds me of mine in the US and Europe in the 70's & 80's. I'm at a point now I need to down size and wonder what you might do if you were in my position and wanted to sell in bulk. My records have always been well cared for / some only played once or so (I would put them on Reel tape or cassette). Covers on most are near mint. I also have them on discogs . Best wishes!
I would advertise the collection and figure out a price and sell them all at once. If you have an eBay account or Discogs, you could sell the rare ones on those sites. I can only imagine how cool your collection is. ♥️ Best wishes.
Ah!! I love all of the artists you mentioned, but I just don’t have much space at all. My solution is to only buy my favorite albums by a certain artist, and to get rid of any albums I know I will never listen to again for whatever reason- surface noise, sound quality, personal preference, etc.
It's smart to keep the collection lean and mean. Only buy records you truly love. I'm going to be weeding out my collection in that way eventually. Thank you and take care.
It really comes down to what matters to you - music or format. If format is the thing, then you collect vinyl. If music is the thing, you get the best quality sound available regardless of format. If you're into both music and format, then you will have vinyl and digital in your collection. I prefer digital for listening for lots of reasons, playlists, skipping tracks you don't like, no scratches, warps, pops, crackles, hiss, etc, etc. But I understand vinyl collecting, I have a friend who has an incredible vinyl collection and it is absolutely fascinating. But even he doesn't listen to his vinyl much because he has dubbed everything down to lossless digital which is much more convenient for playing - and he doesn't wear out his records or his needle!
I know other vinyl people that do that too. It's a great way to preserve the music and the records. Vinyl is nostalgic for me. I listened to records as a child and those records healed my heart after my parents divorce. I respect all music formats but vinyl is where my heart is. I do appreciate other ways of listening to music while out walking or driving my car. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I've been collecting record albums for 50 years, so that means I have some albums that are 50 years old, and lots that are nearing 50 years. Some of those albums have been played many times. They still sound great today, however, I was the only one who handled them. Of course, some of those albums have the occasional snap crackle and pop. However, that has never really bothered me that much. When I was a teenager, it was nearly impossible to purchase or listen to music without some background noise. This was especially true when trying to pull in a long-distance radio station like WLS Chicago on a Saturday night. White background noise, all the time. Today's generation of music lovers, most of them have grown up with digital music and no background noise at all. It's what I call, "sanitized ears". I too now enjoy noise free music, however the background noise of snap crackles and pops do not affect the listening enjoyment for me. In fact, I love listening to a scratchy noisy old 78 or 45 from the 1950s, or a noisy old Blues 78rpm from the 30s or 40's. It makes those old songs sound so authentic and in the style of the era and how they probably sounded back then.
It is a wise move to sell some records. 👍👍👍 I have a certain amount of shelf space that I've decided to not exceed. If I don't have enough space, then I have to get rid of records to buy new records. I have some nice garage sale and second hand store records that I'd like to sell. If it was me, I wouldn't sell the Dire Straits promo record. Promo records are great historically significant collectibles and often the earliest version of a pressing. It's so cool to have something that was played at a radio station or was released to promote a band's new album. Promo records often didn't survive in NM condition; they're most often in the VG+ to VG++ range at best. Coming out in 1978, DS's debut is an all analogue version of the record before digital compromised the quality of records. All analogue recordings by new artists aren't completely going away, there are still some artists who insist on recording their songs in the "old fashioned" way. They recognize the quality of all analogue recordings and want their music to sound the best. It's good to hear that you will be passing some of your records over to your daughter. I'd encourage you to encourage her to hold on to most of your records for a while. As she grows older, her tastes in music will very likely change and grow. Music she doesn't care for now will likely interest her later. 🎸🎸🎸
That's great advice that I will share with my daughter. I will encourage her to keep everything or I may just keep what she doesn't want. I will lean in on your wisdom and keep the Dire Straits promo. It is very cool and I was dreading letting it go. You talked me out of it. Lol. Thank you and I hope you are having a wonderful week. Take care.
I’m at the same point you are with thinning out my collection. 12:01 I don’t think the 2018 blue top strip is a 45RPM, I think its 33 and was using DSD256 vs. all analogue mastering chain. It does sound pretty bold vs the 1982 which needs to be cranked up louder to get the same result.
Thanks David. I forget that some of the MoFi releases are 33 rpm and some are 45 rpm. They are all my preferred copies so I will be letting go of other pressings. It's hard to do but I really don't want to buy another shelf when I have so many duplicate copies of records. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda, Really enjoyed this video. I was just playing that Dan Fogelberg album the other day and I just love it. And Barry Manilow I always felt is a very underrated singer. He had so many incredible songs. I don't blame you at all for letting those go. And I always felt that just because A record is digitally remastered does not mean it will sound better then the Original Analog recording, Usually the Analog version sounds better in my opinion. Stay well and take care
Digitally sourced records can sound amazing if done right. Unfortunately, those Beatles albums aren't the best sounding copies I have. I don't think I need a record just because they are on colored vinyl. I have plenty of those already. Lol. My analog copies do sound better in this case. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I have trouble thinning things down for a variety of reasons i convince myself. I still have one of mom's old records i dont play and it's sure bet you don't have.... Kenneth McKellar from Decca in glorious ffrr LK 4203. I feel better now I've come out of the closest with that one. All the best to you.
There's nothing wrong with keeping your mom's favorite record. It's a great way to honor her. ♥️ Those old Decca records are glorious. Thank you and take care.
First off o got rid of many double copies of vinyl I had years ago but I always been a Fan Dan F and have quite a few of his albums also never was a big Manilow fan but to each their own but I agree it's hard to get rid of some doubles you have for different reasons have a great day and always keep videos coming I always enjoy seeing them
The reasons for purging a vinyl collection does not usually come down to space. I mean, what does a single vinyl record measure? A quarter inch wide? Ok, you stand them upright and you purge a hundred vinyls out of your collection. You now have 25 inches of space you created. That's hardly worth the effort. Now purging multi copies makes perfect sense, or swapping out for better grade vinyl and artwork. All but hard core completists need a dozen copies of Let It Be, or Dark Side, etc. Totally reasonable to down size. I have collected now for 62 years. For various reasons I have lost whole collections and had to start over two or three times. I regret everyday that I didn't have the foresight to keep ALL my collections intact. Think first press orginals and rare out of print issues!Thankfully I'm back to a point where my collection is very enriching and gratifying to me. Be very shrewd when considering each and every vinyl copy you want to get rid of...
That's great advice and I hear you when you say keep originals and out of print issues. That makes a lot of sense to me. I appreciate what you said. You have been a collector for quite a while and know what you're talking about. Thank you and take care.
I hit my personal limit of time and space that I wanted to devote to vinyl listening, when I considered the amount of records I owned verses the time it would take to listen to them all, which didn't fit my spare time reality. I see the value of curated collecting easily, by comparing what two collectors of unlimited wealth left behind. Hurst castle is a curious assemblage of costly stuff, while The Huntington library is a resource for scholarly research on the collected rare books that will have value through the ages.
Yes. I have enough records to know that I won't have time to listen to them all very often if at all. It's important to pass some records on to my daughter and to enjoy the records I already have. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
My story about vinyl records is, I started buying them when I was stationed in Germany with the US ARMY, I would see the records at the regular price and would not buy them, then they would reduce the price and punch a small hole in the corner and if the record would not sell then they reduce it again and punch another hole next to the first one and if it didn’t sell then they would punch a third hole and the price would go to 77 cents and that’s when I would buy them, so I have a huge amount of records of artists that nobody have ever heard of them before, just about all of them are from the late seventies through the late eighties, they all are brand new and I have not even played them 😊
First off, great video. Now, myself with few exceptions will not hold onto more than one copy of anything. I’m in a place where I stream, rip and/or listen to CDs as well as records so sometimes I’m more brutal with weeding out what I consider “multiple” copies, and if I was holding onto it for 1-2 songs they go as well. CDs can really be had for cheap now where most of the places I buy records from are significantly more expensive and of poorer quality, but records still have a sound all their own. Lately I ran into a friend of mine who never listens to “old” music, saying that he’s listened to it enough over the years and so never needs to hear it again. A unique perspective, I’m thinking.
I can certainly understand his thinking. Some songs are played to death. Lol. I like the way you think. Your collection is probably very streamlined which is needed at times. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy If I could catch the person who keeps sneaking Herb Alpert records into my collection, I’m going to at least insist that they are VG+ or better…
Amazing, many of the ones you're getting rid of are ones I did as well, for the same reason (getting a better copy). I just sent my buddy in California my RSD press of Elephant since I picked up the UHQR edition!
Check out Julio Igleasias 1100 Bel Aire Place on vinyl. It has To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before a very familiar song sung with Willie Nelson. You’ll love it!! Senor Igleaasias sings love songs in Spanish and English. He’s from Spain 🇪🇸.
First of all Melinda congrats on the Ella album..not easy to find in nice condition like yours! I'm with you on purging some of your collection..I'll probably be doing the same pretty soon...just got too many albums and I'm running out space!! Also if you come across any other Dan Fogelberg albums DO NOT pass them up!! He's such a prolific songwriter who writes beautiful music with lyrics to match. The good thing is that his albums can be found easily in a lot of the discount stores goodwills etc.
I saw several of his albums in these bins for $1. I may have to go back and get them. So many comments have been raving about Phoenix and many others. He was wonderful. ♥️ Thank you for the suggestion. Take care.
I know what you mean. I had 4400 albums. We moved to a smaller place and sold half. It was painstaking to figure out which ones to let go of. My wife, at that time, bought me a CD player that could record. So, the albums I let go of, I had the chance to record the songs I really wanted. Now I have about 140 CDs, with about 18 songs on each as well as the 2200 albums that remained.
I’m due for a purge and have been hemming and hawing for a while now. There are a lot of doubles and albums I will never and don’t have any interest in spinning but some I’m unsure about getting rid of due to the label that pressed them historically becoming sought after. I’m also not ready to expand to another shelf.
I understand what you're going through. I pick out records to purge and then second guess my decisions. So many viewers have shared their regrets over purges they have done. Thank you and take care.
As a huge Dan Fogelberg fan please listen to his "Nether Lands" album. I have three copies, one I bought in 1977 when it was first released, another found in a used record store in 90's (mint condition) and a recent limited CLEAR vinyl version. I've tried to listen to "Bitches Brew" .....God knows I've tried 😩
Haha! It's a tough first listen. For me, it gets better every time I listen to it. Thank you for the Fogelberg suggestion. He was wonderful. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
As always fascinating programme Melinda First up you are correct Barry Manilow always good for an ocassional play.....who cares if the guy is cool? He is great Totally get that when you establish a collection you have to prune it from time to time For reasons of space my limit is 400 albums on vinyl and so if I buy anything now something has to go! Keep the channel going Melnda it is a joy!
Also I forgot to mention I recently picked up Dan Fogelberg Nether Lands album (for $1) and I honestly didn't think I would like it but was pleasantly surprised at how much I did like it so it went in the collection. Joe Walsh plays on it too!
I'm not really an LP person, although I do have a few in my collection. Did you hear a lot of modern vinyl versions are copied from CD masters? There's a lot of shady stuff going on with the vinyl Renaissance, pricing for instance. I
I'm 70, sold hi-fi between '76 and '83.
I saw that one at that $1 bin. 😃 Thank you and take care.
Great album. I just picked up a clean copy in the dollar bin. It's a hidden gem.
Absolute fire album heart hotels is a banger
Phoenix is really great. I had it as a CBS half-speed.
Fogelberg's "The Innocent Age" is my favorite!
Great video. Definitely a healthy practice, purging occasionally. Though I can’t bring myself to it yet 😂
It's not easy. Lol. But sometimes it's necessary. Thank you and take care.
Cheers!
Hi Melinda, I love your dog in the background. He/She seems to be listening to you!
She might be listening at that moment but she doesn't always. Lol. She's a sweet dog. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
I agree that when I hear Barry Manilow, I feel like my mom is around. It brings back so many memories. ♥️
Being in a marching band was such a blast. I played the tenor sax and it was such a cool experience. Thank you and take care.
Thank you so much for the kind compliment about my hair. ♥️
Keep well.
Everything you said is true. For me, it's storage space. Thank you and take care.
Dear Ms. M: I had a feeling this day would come. Am glad to see you are shedding a few to your beautiful daughter. I for one, always bookmark your videos for my own collection down the road. Thank you very much for your wonderful video!
Thank you so much! Take care. ♥️🤗
Have a great day 😊
Raising money for concert tickets is a great idea. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
The pursuit of having the definitive copy has been a big weakness for me. I understand what you are saying. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy love your honest takes
Another really fun video, Melinda! Good calls on your personal collections all! Your daughter is a very lucky person!
I think she is going to love these records. ♥️ Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I agree completely. Thank you for the encouragement. Take care.
It sounds like a very cool place. Playing Sinatra records would be a very cool touch. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
Great Video Melinda I’ve purged my collection a few times . Just to buy more records
Lol. Exactly! Thank you and take care.
I will look that up. 😃 Thank you!
The power of gold ! Great song!
Hi Melinda, Nice to see you passing on such amazing vinyl to your daughter! From his album, "Home Free", check out Dan Fogelberg's song, "Wysteria".
Absolutely!! I hope you're doing well. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
It is tough. I liked each of these albums enough to buy them in the first place. ♥️ At least they are going to a good home. Thank you and take care.
What a cool story about that Chipmunks song. I will remember that every time I hear it. Thank you and take care.🤗♥️
x2 for space issues as well as the evolution of my listening habits. My new collecting mantra: "All killer, no filler." So, I'm in the process of purging and am sometimes shocked by what I'm willing to part with. Noise upgrades, finding and keeping OGs to replace inferior re-presses, etc...those are ongoing. But, the purge has included some classics.
I understand. I find the hardest records to get rid of are the originals. ♥️ In most cases, the reissue will go first. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda,
I had a brand new, Mono pressing of A Hard Day’s Night which I had to let go because it sounded so bad. I love the songs and it is a classic
Album but most CD and modern vinyl versions sound terrible.
We talked about that a while ago. Why sometimes the original pressing might be better than the remastered version. I also learned that
Yes, it's hard to let go of original copies but if a reissue sounds better, then I will make an exception.
Your pooch sleeping in the background in the doggie bed is so cute!!
Thank you! She's a sweet little girl. Take care. ♥️
I did the same. Picked up all of Fogelberg’s 70s lps and they are super underrated!!
I could have bought nearly all of them at that antique store. They were only $1 each. 😃 He was a wonderful artist. I'm sure they are all worth having. Thank you and take care.
I agree with your comments a lot of albums take space.I have that problem I need bookshelfs for my vinyls.but ,that's what you love.
They take up space but I do love them. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Thank you Melinda.👍
Hello Melinda,
It can be hard to let go of records in one's collection (mine just keep growing...) - BUT it's good when you can give the albums to your kids (like I do too).
If I keep more than one copy of an album, I normally prioritize:
- My original copy (many bought in the '70s when I was a teenager - there are often memories connected to this)
- The best sounding version of the album (often an audiophile re-release)
- Versions w. special "accessories" (signed copies, poster etc.)
(I must admit that some albums I have more than 3 of...)
I too bought the Bill Evans Riverside Box - and it sounds great.
Yes, vinyl isn't the most convenient format but still very worth it. Thank you and take care. 😃♥️
Oh my!!! You did hit the jackpot. 🔥🤗 Congratulations!
Super video, I am always trading records, just about every time I buy a new record when I bring it up to the counter, I hear "so what you got to trade today?" Thanks for sharing the great info. Peace.
It's great that you can trade for records you really want. ♥️ It's cool that the store owner knows you well. Thank you and take care.

FYI, Miles Davis' Round About Midnight was never available in true stereo. That goes for the Mobile Fidelity releases as well.
I was wrong. The MoFi is mono as well. Thank you. ♥️🤗
Hi Melinda, I've been shedding many records, starting about 2 y ago. I just need the best version of each, and whatveer I never listened to or never cared for, were gone. Quality always tops quantity... great video!
I agree. That's a great approach to this. Thank you and take care.
As to parting with stff...a good reason would be space as you said...but those gatefolds take up room that could otherwise be occupied with something else🙂
A great video as always Melinda🙂
I agree. Gatefolds are cool but they take up more space. I'll let go of some duplicates and hopefully that will free up some room for me and make our daughter very happy. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Would you consider buying an ultrasonic record cleaner like the affordable Humminguru to get rid of the clicks and pops?
I'm going to pass them along to my daughter. She's into records but doesn't have the time to record shop at the moment. 😀Thank you and take care.
I posted my comment before I had a chance to finish the video where you clearly explained that. Sorry! @@MelindaMurphy
Take care.
Thank you. I agree. My collection will be cleaner and my daughter is going to be very happy. 🤗♥️.Thank you and take care.
I’ve got a sealed MoFi dark side record that I can’t bring myself to open. You like some great music Melinda.
I understand. It's more valuable left sealed. Just make sure you have a nice copy of that classic album. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
I'm glad you found the right copy of Dark Side. ♥️ I hope our daughter appreciates the records. Thank you and take care.
Ringwear adds character to older copies of classic albums on vinyl. If there’s surface noise along and has loud pops and clicks it’s gone from my collection. I don’t mind to light ticks in vinyl as long as the playing surface is clean. I use anti statics sleeves for my records.
I agree. I can handle a little ring wear as long as the vinyl is clean. I also use the anti static sleeves. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
my solution to the storage issue was to rent storage space for the over-spill. i now only keep 500 rock/blues/ jazz lps, and about a thousand classical in my listening room. I rotate in and out the classical lpsl most often.
That's a very good idea. That beats letting go of something you really want to keep. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
watchin your vids over the past year, its obvious you don't need the cash. so, passing them onto to your daughter seems like the best choice.
vinyl collecting is fun! ❤
Hopefully, she will love them. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
(The SACDs sound nearly identical and cost over $100 less.)
Your antique store finds remind me of a store I visited in Colorado Springs back on July 30th--Independent Records on S.
I was running into the "storage issue" at home. My solution was to add a turntable to my work office system and bring my doubles to work.
That's a great idea. 🤗♥️ My daughter will be happy to receive my extras. Thank you and take care.
I don't have a lot of autographs so that's very cool. CD's do take up less space. That's a definite advantage. Thank you and take care.
Thanks for video again. Just a question for you. Have you heard new version on net by two McCartney songs, New and I dont know (from Egypt station) now with John Lennon
AI made it possible.
Thank you. Funhouse is a terrific album. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
Haha! I can't understand my husband's dislike for Rush. Lol. What an amazing band. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
You may soon have to thin out your music related shirt collection as well!!
LOL
Would like to see the full Floyd design; maybe thumbnail the art of shirt of the day. You are good about showing Record Store Tees.
I do have a pretty big collection. Lol. I will consider posting the artwork or show my shirts better in future videos. Thank you.
Hi Melinda, analog will be around, they still make studio recording tape and other analog equipment 👍
You make a great point. Eventually those old tapes will wear out and won't be available to be used anymore. That will be a sad day. Thank you and take care.
behind you did you get new speakers. and did you get rid of your tower speakers? The speakers behind you if they are new speakers, what kind are they?
I did get new speakers. 😃 They are MoFi Sourcepoint 10 speakers. If you look back at my videos, I discussed them in full a few weeks back. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda, I just finished listening to Face Value that arrived from Acoustic Sounds today and you will not be disappointed! It sounds great, very dynamic, detailed, and quiet vinyl, and is a fabulous listen. In addition, the 45 RPM Mofi of Dire Straits is wonderful and an excellent upgrade over your promo copy. Cheers
Thank you so much for letting me know. ♥️🤗 I can't wait to hear them. I have no doubt that you are right. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Here's an excellent transfer of it. It's good, but not spectacular:

I started to explore Dan Folgelberg's catalog in depth over the last year and wasn't disappointed. I think he's a bit underrated and many of the great tracks get lost in the shadow of the singles. If you can pick up other ones for a buck it's worth the investment.
Forever, by Kiss, co written by Michael Bolton. Yes yes yes! I love that track. That is a good find.
Great video as always!
I love the song Forever too. Many of the Fogelberg albums were there for $1. Maybe I should pick up more. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Used to see lots in Goodwill for cheap. Are you in Ga Melinda?
I love SoulTrane, such a great album, I have a prestige clear blue vinyl version. Great video Melinda - your daughter is very lucky. 🙂 I also purge about once a year.
I hope she really enjoys these records. Giving them to her makes this a lot easier. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Great video Melinda, we all go though this and all deal with it differently… nice to see you have a strong strategy in place :)
Thank you Bob. 🤗♥️
WoW
Thought 'Sgt. Pepper' would be one of those multiple album exceptions [though recognize you have an open version too].
I understand the running out of space situation.
I sold my unopened Deep Purple Made In Japan DCC gold disc for $450 including free shipping about 2 years ago, no regrets.
I got my son a stereo and, long story short, he's getting a lot of my duplicates and records I just don't play anymore.
That's very nice! I'm sure he appreciates them. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
Making room for upcoming UHQRS & One-Steps 😂. Great job,, thanks
There's nothing wrong with having UHQR'S and One Steps from bands and artists I love. 🥰 Thank you and take care.
Thank You, sounds good. @@MelindaMurphy
Take care.
You have a great week and take care as well. 👍👍👍 @@MelindaMurphy
I have heard the 30th anniversary does not sound that much better than the 2016 remaster?? Any opinions on the two vs each other?? 17:17
My preference is the 30th anniversary. To me it has more depth. The 2016 version is also very good though. Thank you and take care.
Yes, the sound quality is important. 👍
Yes indeed! Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
First off o got rid of many double copies of vinyl I had years ago but I always been a Fan Dan F and have quite a few of his albums also never was a big Manilow fan but to each their own but I agree it's hard to get rid of some doubles you have for different reasons have a great day and always keep videos coming I always enjoy seeing them
This is tricky but hard decisions have to be made. 😃 Thank you and take care.
What pressing of houses of the holy do u have? I have the Robert Ludwig pressing
Mine has the RL in the dead wax on the Japanese pressing. My new copy is a George Piros copy. Thank you and take care.
Thanks for the reply. Do you have back in black? I have 2 copy’s of the Robert Ludwig if u want the extra
I love Dan Folgelberg lol. My first show ever when I was around 9 or 10👍
What a great first concert. ♥️ He was great.
I’m also now just focusing on things I’m really going to listen too. Space is definitely a premium!
I definitely don't want clutter so I would rather let go of records I don't need and avoid another shelf.
My story about vinyl records is, I started buying them when I was stationed in Germany with the US ARMY, I would see the records at the regular price and would not buy them, then they would reduce the price and punch a small hole in the corner and if the record would not sell then they reduce it again and punch another hole next to the first one and if it didn’t sell then they would punch a third hole and the price would go to 77 cents and that’s when I would buy them, so I have a huge amount of records of artists that nobody have ever heard of them before, just about all of them are from the late seventies through the late eighties, they all are brand new and I have not even played them 😊
That's wonderful. It's hard to believe that records used to be that affordable. Good for you. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
That was very nice of you. I do think it would be hard to listen to any other version now. The UHQR is spectacular. Thank you and take care.
I remember that song. ♥️ It was a huge hit. Thank you and take care. 😃
That must have been tough but if we ever downsize, I will have to do the same. Thank you and take care.
As always fascinating programme Melinda
First up you are correct Barry Manilow always good for an ocassional play.....who cares if the guy is cool? He is great
Totally get that when you establish a collection you have to prune it from time to time
For reasons of space my limit is 400 albums on vinyl and so if I buy anything now something has to go!
Keep the channel going Melnda it is a joy!
I understand. Most of us have space limits. I do enjoy Barry occasionally and the Dan Fogelberg record is great. Thank you and take care.
Also I forgot to mention I recently picked up Dan Fogelberg Nether Lands album (for $1) and I honestly didn't think I would like it but was pleasantly surprised at how much I did like it so it went in the collection. Joe Walsh plays on it too!
Very cool. I didn't know Joe played on that album. 😃♥️ Thank you!
@@MelindaMurphy Joe produced Dan's second album "Souvenirs"
I'm not really an LP person, although I do have a few in my collection. Did you hear a lot of modern vinyl versions are copied from CD masters? There's a lot of shady stuff going on with the vinyl Renaissance, pricing for instance. I
I agree. The Kelly Clarkson record is a perfect example of what you're talking about. Thank you and take care.
