Keith's ability to decode handwriting is a legit superpower!
I would have read "smashed" as well :)
William George and the next tests of my students 😁
Ok come on, he's only human.
Handwriting wasn't bad this time compared to some episodes.
Brady should do a video solely dedicated to how Keith reads handwriting.
It's rare that people who are so attractive and charismatic also are incredibly talented. Keith really is one of a kind.
Ha ha, I see what you did there.
I had a very rude reply all churned up in my head and then the bubble popped... Nice one
The ole switcheroo
@@ImmyYousafzai But why would it be ok to complement Keith's looks and not Hannah's?
HAHAHA!
"You're still not a fellow Brady" Couldn't even let him dream for a few seconds.
Roasted
SAVAGE!
Wow, I was so disappointed when I found out the letter was written by a man named "Children" and not a bunch of kids...
I can barely imagine how many things are in Keith's brain.
You know how we ask Google things... I bet Google asks him things that it doesn't know :)
rareroe305 He's basically Data from Star Trek.
rareroe305 I bet he uses more than 10% of his brain

I wish Siri had Hannah's voice.
Her voice is amazing. I'm seriously upset that she still hasn't got a regular podcast...
ojetepepino Yes! You are so right!
Penny Lane at least there are a few episodes of "the curious cases of rutherford and fry" every few months :3 I really like that show
absolutely
Maybe AI will advance enough that each user is able to put in an audio recording of a persons voice which will be analysed and replicated by that AI.
Hannah and Keith should do a podcast.
Could be about anything, I don't care, I'd listen anyway.
They could take Cortek that Grey and Myke talked about some time ago. They would soon exceed the original Cortex.
hannah could read the tax code, and id listen
Their voices are just so relaxing to hear
they did it
Yeah, both have extremely pleasant voices
Keith's superpower-like ability to read old handwriting makes me think he should be given the Voynich manuscript. One glance and I'm sure he'd know what it was all about.
"You're still not a fellow Brady." Keith is savage
Never stop this awesome series. It deserves waaay higher viewership.
"Children" as a surname is bound to lead to so much confusion..."Children wrote in to the royal society to complain because a friend didn't get elected president" :P
"Where have you been all Friday night, Howard!?"
"I got drunk with Children, Margaret, as usual."
"So, Susan, is there anyone special in your life?"
"Well, you see, I'm into Children."
Almost as bad as Captain Darling from Blackadder!
I'll say it again, Keith is awesome for being able to read that handwriting so easily.
MichaelKingsfordGray smashed = remarked who knew!
'You are still not a fellow Brady'. Keith sure needs to rub that one in.
"And I have.. SMASHED"
"... remarked"
XD hilarious. Hannah going in swinging, with full enthusiasm but obviously knowing she's incorrect and Keith just deadpan correcting it :P
Brady: I'm in!
Keith: You're still not a fellow, Brady.
Harsh.
Burak Bağdatlı cidden harsh
Isn't she most adorable?
Nah, she's a badass, intelligent woman.
BlackHayateTheThird Can't she be all of those things?
Pretty sure she cares a lot more about how she's improving the world and not so much about how adorable she is. Everyone likes to know they're not ugly from time to time, but the complements we cherish the most have nothing to do with looks.
That's your opinion.
It is great seeing Hannah again. It has been far to long.
1:44 brady looks like he's not part of the video but just wants a cheeky look at whats going on
I got that mixed laugh and sadness feeling
Alex Harris Ahahahaha, spot on lmao
Hannah was REALLY excited to be there. Can't blame her.
Hannah Fry
Related to Stephen Fry?
Or Philip J. Fry?
Or french fry?
She's absolutely amazing.
Phillip J. Fry is futurama Fry.
Hannah Fry on Objectivity. Yes, please.
Love Hannah. All these guys too. But her accent is adorable. And she looks healthy and glowing :)
Lovely to see the delightful Hannah Fry again.
You should have every guest try to read a paragraph or two, before Keith comes in and reads what it actually says
Hannah and Brady have such good on screen chemistry!
I love these lucky dip episodes. :)
Me too! =-)
MYMY this was great! Hannah fry's reactions made this video even more funny and exciting :P great job
Now just imagine Objectivity going through facebook messages and posts in hundred years
go through youtube comments, and half of it is just people saying "first"
And here, in the Royal Library, we have stored historical correspondences like this one between poster shwetank verma and oldcowbb.
Man, these ancient fonts are so hard to read! And such obscure language!
Only the worthwhile ones. Like one off odd 4chan mathematical proofs
Would be _"Virtuality"_ at that point, no?
"Yeah, you're still not a fellow Brady."
I like this guy.
Keith had to cut her off real quick when she tried explaining who the guy was. Hes like "Nah bro I'm #1 librarian. I explain the details"
Also Keith isn't actually reading these papers, they are illegible. He has memorized every article in the entire library. He is just going off memory.
Life goal: Be Hannah Fry (well similar at least)
Sarah Vermeland My life goal is to be CGPGrey
+QED "As I piece by piece replace myself..."
Totally, be my 38+ % mate..
Oh my gosh - how fun it would be to wander around in those archives for a while.
Love how Hannah and Keith were giggling in the corner deciphering a page of scandalous science gossip.
"..and, I have smashed with very great interest, the nature of the observations, and methods employed in it."
oh, hell yeah, my favorite Fry.
Well these three are just absolutely adorable
I think it's time that Brady was awarded at least an HonFRS.
Hannah Fry is such a pleasure to listen to. I really enjoyed the RI lecture "Can maths predict the future" by her. Sorry Brady, the numberphile ones are awesome too ;)
She described the peer review process perfectly "great paper, change everything about it, get it back in a month"
TV producers, please give Keith, Hannah and Brady a TV show! This is gold!
Keith and Hannah are both genuine treasures. We are very lucky to have them.
I like seeing Brady in the videos!
I love this woman.
It's funny how the voting machine turned up again! It also did in Hello Internet episode 40! :)
I think that is also why Brady knows where it is ;)
He is secretly getting the voting machine out for many more things I guess!
5:41 Ms Fry's reactions to the letter are magical. This is shade being thrown nearly two centuries ago and she's on the brink of yelling "Worldstar!" Love it.
Freaking love Hannah and also the archivist guy :)
Keith is like a living encyclopedia. Has he ever competed on Jeopardy or one of those kinda trivia shows? If not, he should
Scoldpedia it wouldn't be fair to the computer
It's got Hannah in it, I watch it.
This is absolutely excellent!! :D
I've had the good fortune to visit the Royal Society for a meeting about comets this past summer, where the organisers pulled some strings (basically, they called Lord Martin Rees, who was sadly in Singapore at the time, but asked Keith for help) and managed to show us Newton's refractor (the same one featured in an early Objectivity video) and a number of works on comets. I did say to Keith then that I felt like I've been there before, via the Objectivity videos (which wouldn't have happened without Brady).
And then we've got Hanna Fry, who was one of the main speakers at a UCL graduation ceremony I attended the same summer (as she is a lecturer there), and of whom I have of course known about for a while, mainly (indeed) through Numberphile videos. She explicitly mentioned Brady and Numberphile at the start of her talk, too, by the way! :)
....so basically I am fangirling a bit here, having all three amazing people (Brady, Hannah, Keith. And the Royal Society as an amazing thing, of course) here at once, being excited about science and (its) history :D
Hanny Fry is the perfect woman. Smart, beautiful, and a redhead :p
jeromesnail you said beautiful twice
A question about the voting... I might misunderstand how the device works, but it appears that there are two separate compartments, one for Yes and one for No. If that is the case, and a black ball in the Yes is an "oh hell no" vote, a white ball in Yes being a "definitely" vote, a white ball in No being "eh... maybe later" vote... what would a black ball in the No side mean? Or have I just got it wrong and its much simpler, with the voters dropping both balls and just selecting which side?
what luck 5th. and a Hannah Fry vid.
This man can read that like anything else and thats the craziest part. Granted he's had probably 40 years of practice
Hannah's voice is lovely.
0:31 Keith can read the world's most ornate handwriting but Brady can't tell a typewritten G from a J.
Three amazingly charming people!
Love Hannah Fry. 🙂
Has Prof. Poliakoff been on Objectivity? For some reason I feel like him and Keith together in a video would be amazing.....
I remember he was in a video but he was at the Society for a meeting.
GauravA42 Prof Poliakoff was in the video about the Royal Society Charter Book, just search for "world's greatest autograph book", you won't be disappointed. Keith bears more than a passing resemblance to the Prof IMO
*Sir Martin
@@Max_Matrix *Sir Martyn actually ;)
Another fantastic video. Love your channel, brady
Hannah is just all around brilliant and gorgeous
Hannah my favourite
Hannah fry is so great
Oh cool! I LOVE Hannah Fry!
So, what percentage of the Royal Societies things are in those card catalogs and how many are just catalogued electronically?
Great idea for a video
Brady was thinking the first lucky dip was actually about 2/10 but he didn't want to hurt their nerdy feelings.
Road to Sliver Play Button
"That's me done." I wouldn't have understood that out of context.
Why does Hannah have to wear gloves but Keith doesn't? Particularly when Hannah is only looking at the card catalogue and Keith is touching to original document.
THIS!!!
"Don't pull it too far.. It'll end up on the floor.."
Amazing to see very good handwriting back then.
5:43, that was perfect.
Damn, that Duke was the sixth son of "farmer George" III. He had 15, 15 (!!!!) children!
@6:38 "I have the honour to be.." your obedient servant J D Children
What? Hannah Fry? Say no more.
I thought Hannah fry was a steam train driver.
she did co hosted a show involving trains
That woman … her voice, how she moves, her enthusiasm, her looks, her intellect ... stunning.... would very much like to take her out for dinner ^^
Those voices!
I want to know what is in the boxes @2:45 labeled "Porter Archives"
Duke of Sussex in 1831... That is Queen Victoria's uncle! TV series make me so knowledgeable!
Ding-ding! And now Prince Harry is the Second Duke of Sussex...
Hannah is a cool girl.
"I'm in!" LOL
It sometimes looks as if Keith is teaching people to read.
We like Hannah Fry.
Oh Kieth.
The subtle sound of pure fascination at 6:20.
How much did handwrtiting differ between countrys in this time? Germans used to write Fraktur (and other blackletter typefaces) but what about other countrys?
The picture at 1.54 is Edward James Olmos, isn't it? :P
"still not" - sounds like "it might change in the future"
Hannah!
That cheeky title
What TV shows are Hannah in?
Wouldn't that be "What TV shows is Hannah in?" ?
(Plus: Bump, want to know it too)
It is still early! :D You're right, because Hannah is the subject, and TV shows is the direct object... blast that English!
She did a BBC documentary on Lady Ada, one on the mathematics of Dating and another called The Joy of Data.
Garbaz I'm not so sure about that, given that the query is meant to return a list of TV-shows, not a list of Hannah Fry, so you're looking at the plural TV-shows, not the singular Hannah Fry.
That doesn't matter though. If this were a declarative statement it would be more obvious: it's "Hannah is in shows" not "Hannah are in shows". The verb "to be in" ("is/are in") has to agree with the subject ("thing that is in"), in this case "Hannah": "Hannah *is in*". Neither changing the word order (question inversion) nor the expected response (a list of shows) changes that.
There are other ways it could be worded where the verb agrees with "TV shows" though, e.g. "Which TV shows *feature* Hannah". The shows are the "featurers" and Hannah is the "featuree".
Up next week, a review of the Wakandan vault!
Who else got here from the end of #173 because they were curious about what Brady's "special objectivity treat" was going to be?
Keith, how do you read this? Also, can you write like this cool curvy style?
Shes pregnant? Congratulations
She would be very disappointed/sad/upset reading this comment if she isn't pregnant.
yeah, but i am 374% sur she is
Sheepception ohhhh, super,
Sheepception But herself said she's pregnant? That's the point. Skepticism first.
Gundro A A pregnant belly isn't perfectly circular at the beginning of pregnancy. It's more bumpy at the bottom. Like the lower part of the letter "S".
Ricardo Mazeto I've had enough of you repeating its impolite, Yes maybe it is, but if i had a question i would ask it. Even if it means killing someone (its just saying). No one can control my curiosity. And even you said it in your last comment: "Skepticism", always asking and always be in doubt. And the only way to know it is by asking (or searching, etc)
"I have smashed." Hannah wtf
Brilliant AND beautiful. Goodness gracious. **fans self**
Yeah, Keith really is something special
why did I NOT think of rock papers scissors at 0:10
Librarians get short shrift. Tell us more about Keith.
