Justice Kemal Pasha, I love to watch your life story in ‘Charithram Emnillode’. I see a great legal expert, jurist and humanist in you. But the episode on 9/2 made me feel sad when you rightly pointed out the lack of manners, respect for elders, teachers and even persons of eminence like you! Unfortunately from that premise, Sir, you and ierroneously ridiculed the concept of Arshabharatham and it’s assumed greatness. Have you noticed Sir, that the people in the neighbouring states do have these good manners? The people of Tamil Nadu respect elders, the educated, persons of eminence in society, artists, r teachers, and even the rich! That automatically fold their palms and say ‘Vanakkam, saar’! Most people in the other states prostate before parents, endervbrothers, older sister-in-laws and most elderly people when the visit homes of friends and relatives. I have been astonished seeing young businessmen getting up from their official seats to pay respect to the father visiting the office, or the brother who has come to occupy his seat in the president! It is a normal, daily routine!
In my Chennai office a Chennai-born Malayali colleague complained to me that our accountant, a CA from Kerala doesn’t respond to his ‘good morning’ at all. I asked him, “doesn’t he smile back at you?” The answer was in the affirmative. I told him then that a Keralite responds that way. He doesn’t normally say ‘good morning’ to anybody.; just smiles. A Keralite prostrated before his parents only during his marriage and after their death!
Justice Kemal Pasha, you were a judge in the High Court and still you dismiss Aryasamaj wedding as worthless. Arya Samaj marriage is legally valid one and is admissible in courts of law! The case you mentioned legitimately accused a rogue who married a girl and later subjected her to domestic violence and rightly deserved your wrath. But the expression in your face as you mentioned Aryasamaj wedding dismissively was ugly! My community’s weddings are simple and without any serious rituals, I admire the Christian weddings for the involvement of the priest and the entire parish in the solemn r proceedings. So I found the Aryasamaj wedding conducted for my nephew and a North Indian Hindu girls very meaningful, the way the 7 steps were described for their significance in married life….
Regardless of age, superiority, or any other factor, peoples can and should call each other by their names.
