“These Are Violent Streets”.. The Real Trenchtown Jamaica 🇯🇲
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- Welcome to Trenchtown Jamaica. A garrison community in West Kingston that packs a huge punch. The birthplace of Reggae: the home of Bob Marley, The Wailers, Peter Tosh and many more. Famous worldwide, the cultural impact of this community is huge. This is, however, still an economically struggling place that suffers with frequent gang crime. Unfortunately many young residents are captured by a life of crime at a young age. One route to escape the clutches of gang lifestyle is through success as a music artist. I spent time with some of Trenchtown's most promising and inspiring up-and-coming artists to talk about their aspirations and achievements. There is a strong community spirit and a lot of love, hope and camaraderie in this small place. I further took a walk around some of the most dangerous gang-controlled streets of Trenchtown to see what daily life is like there. Although tourists from around the world do visit as a pilgrimage to the musical history of the area, few seldom walk the streets I do in this video.
Below are links to all the artists and creators featured in this video. If you do visit Trenchtown, please consider supporting the upcoming musicians who are the future of the community.

This is the content I love to see. Instead of looking at the negatives in the world. Shine the light on positive people like these. They may not have a lot but have a lot of ambition and love.
They have love for everyone, and when you have love, you have everything! ❤

Great video Wendall!! Such a rich and vibrant culture in TrenchTown! The locals there should never lose that!! The locals are terrific! It's evident that they wanted to ensure that you were safe! Not going to lie, just watching makes me want to visit! There is nothing like a local street restaurant!! Great job guys! Nice way to represent Jamaica to the rest of the world!🇯🇲🇯🇲
I love the Jamaican culture and their food 😋respect to all the Jamaican brothers and sisters from a Romanian brother 🇹🇩🇯🇲👊🏼
That blew me away, bro....how they are overcoming their struggles is inspiring and what you do to bring that content to everyone is awesome! Thank you mate!

You get back what you put out. I’ve learned there are great people everywhere, you just have to look for the best in people.

Myself too. Yaad nice cah dun
This is what makes a community flourish, focus on art, music, clothing, heritage instead of making a quick buck and ruining your land, mind and heart for some billionaires. Love and understanding. Love this series and much love for the jamaican people!
Great Vlog Wendall. Love the way you get right into the communities and are true to your word when you say you will speak to the REAL people and hear their stories. Love the thought of visiting Jamaica, probably add it to my bucket list. For all those watching and have not yet subscribed, do it. This man deserves to be right up there as one of the greatest Vloggers 🤘
Thank you for the kind words 🙏
The music engineer had such a peaceful, friendly vibe to him. I wish him the best.

Brethren in the light blue hoodie speaks with such eloquence and knowledge. Represent breds.
I married a Jamaican heritage lady in England and emigrated to Canada with her in 1986. Visited Jamaica in '88, staying with the family in Red Hills, Kingston, which admittedly is one of the better neighbourhoods. Being a white guy with the family I got overwhelmingly good vibes. We travelled all over the island on the mini buses with the locals, Milk River baths, Spanish Town, Lucea, Mo'Bay, just a beautiful people in a beautiful country. But of course it is a poor country and it has a high murder rate even now. Now my kids take their kids down to visit family and enjoy Hellshire beach, festival, bammy and fish fried on the beach. Unfortunately hurricanes are a thing, which effects my desire to live there.
Not the murder rate then😂
Jamaica has developed. It's a developing country. Educated people making a good life there. Those who are not educated are struggling.
There are so many famous artists who come out of Trench Town, yet Trench Town is still such a poor district. I can't understand that I really carnt. Does it mean once you are famous, you forget your district? Love how hard those young guys are striving. I've been Jamaica about 8 times and I think that the politics of the country really trying to oppress the people.
Big up yourself for promoting the talent in jamaica boss man .. nuff talent deya! 🫡🙌🏼
🇯🇲
well traveled white guy here. I love Kingston. It's real, gritty and love the mountains. NEVER had any issues in probably 10 trips. I get tired of the beach so hang in Kingston a bit for the food, music and lack of tourists.
Hi wendall hope your well. Just want to say we'll done with your channel your videos are Brilliant. The insight you give to the places you go is the best out there.
The Jamaicans are great people. The lad who called you a great blogger. Man the way he puts his words across was impressive

Wow!!!!! great voices and amazing music at 3:18 and music is amazing throughout. Love it brothers and sisters. 👍👍❤❤❤❤👍👍
Old gentlemen at the end full of wisdom. That’s why we should always listen to our elders. Not all but most. I’m English but now that older gentleman is now my Jamaican grandfather
Big up Brother Wen! Nice to see you inna Jamaica 🇯🇲 Looking forward to more!

Wow, never seen Trenchtown before, Thanks mate for showing us around this area of Jamaica
Yes I Wendall been watching you for a while. You made it to Jamaica before me. Great to see you there man.
Great vlog my friend. There are some very lovely people in Jamaica, but also a lot of poverty and many people are struggling, as i'm sure you saw while visiting.
Best series yet in my opinion. Everyone in this video are amazing, learned so much. Thank you

@WendallExplores I can't wait. I genuinely wish I was on the road with you. These guys have the best vibe. Wish I had money to invest in them artists, just to help them get to the next stage. Like you said, hopefully, a producer sees your video and gives them the break they deserve

Your brave Wendall! well done. 🙏🙏👋👋
He loves it 😂 but looks good I can't lie
Great vlogg Wendall, great adventure 👍 Reggie is certainly enjoying himself over there with Nigel. Glad you caught up with him, Reg is a lovely lad. Just a shame you never put him on your video.
Massive Thanks Wendall loved this Jamaican video.💯👍
When you mentioned that you felt safer in parts of Trenchtown than parts of the UK, I can understand why. There seems to be a closer-knit community vibe in parts of the world like Trenchtown, whereas each year in the UK there seems to be more division. We're losing communities and the spirit that comes from closer communities. I could really feel the togetherness of Trenchtown through the video and can understand why you said what you did. As a fan of Damian Marley and reggae music, I really have to try and visit sometime.
Big up Brinks crew. Blessings from the UK!!!
I walked all round Trenchtown and many other places in Jamaica. Never had any major problems.
Jamaica Jamaica ❤🎉 one love from south East London
Thanks, Wendall! It's good to see the young guys going for the music, it seems to come natural to them. Warming to see they embrace the legacy of Bob Marley. 👍
Good vibes from the elderly gentleman at the end😀 Impressive that Casio actually hired individual musicians to program the first drum loops.♫🥁
Epic video that Wendall, been watching for a few months now and you've upped the game with this. Makes me wanna book a flight! Keep up the good work👍
Book the trip 🇯🇲

Nuff nuff love Wendall keep up the good work yard man all the way from Brooklyn ny🇯🇲🇯🇲
Wow what a great vlog Wendall got me wanting to visit Jamaica especially Trenchtown. The people and the vibes are something you don't get everyday and some very wise words spoken by the residents . Mouth was drooling over the food one big reason I want to visit the areas. I have been brought up listening to reggae and dance hall music my children love it and me too my little boys 4 and 7months old love when the reggae music or dance hall plays. Probably the best vlog I've watched of yours yet keep up the good work and bless up Trenchtown and Jamaica
More 🇯🇲 to come
@WendallExplores serious vibes and great to see what most tourists never get to see keep up the good work
What an awesome video, one of my favourites yet. I’m enjoying your exploration outside of the UK.
Absolutely stunning episode these guys at 1Brinks studios so proud of their productions and ambitious. It’s a travesty that so many people with wealth pass thru these areas as tourists and could kit out such a studio. That’s a genuine tourist , someone who wants to support the Jamaicans of today as well as the memory of a past legend. Your so right Wendell - celebrating marleys memory etc is great but visitors should step out of the tourist comfort zone and go seek the people trying to achieve greatness and using music NOW to speak to the rest of the world. These young lads are the voice of Jamaica today. They should be heard and they should be supported by the people visiting (and beyond).
The state is determined to force poverty on the very people who have the drive to be so much more and the creativity to make Jamaican culture relevant again.
Great comment
Damn these guys make my DIY production set-up look professional in comparison. Wild the reach they achieve with such basic gear. Power to em!
This is not a typical studio in jamaica
@@JessniaColon Oh yeah:? Prove it.
Yo these Jamaican artist are 🔥

The fruits and foods are fresh so they are always delicious abd nutritious. Tourists can go anywhere as long as they have guides that get permission from the
Dons in each neighborhood
You've got the best tour guide in the country there Wendall I been watchin him on reggies channel. Jamaica looks amazing
Nigel a good man, met him thru Chris Must List, introduced him to Reggie 🇯🇲
@WendallExplores ❤️👊
People might want to look into the history of Jamaican music. Sound system guys like Duke Read would pay, say, $10 for a tune that became massive, like early stuff from the Maytals etc.
amazing! big up
🇯🇲
A great watch Wendall.
Great explore Wendal you met some good interesting people in this one, the food looked good too, personally I like chicken breast more than chicken thigh, the size of that breast portion was huge compared to the poxy little ones here in the UK!😋, anyway takecare mate!🙂✌️
GREAT VID COVERING THE TRUTH 🎉❤
