Everyone he to remember that Sheridan didn't go to drama school. As close as she got was National Youth Theatre so considering she isn't trained intensively for 3/4 years she's done really well. I think she's great and a big fan of her!
She might not have the energy of LBB, but she sure has more attitude, more fierceness to her portrayal, and that makes her portrayal of Elle Woods an equally intriguing version.
I think it's unfair to compare Sheridan to LBB because they are both fantastic actors and singers, they just have their different ways of being Elle! Please don't hate on this I'm just saying.
What I think happens the most in the different So Much Better video's is that everyone says Bailey & Sheridan were "not very good and that LBB was better" I agree that LBB can't really be replaced, but because she was the original Elle she set an INCREDIBLY high standard and all the other Elle's are still amazing we just compare too much ((:
+Aimee Russell And, come on. Tbh both of their voices are amazing. Sheridan brought out more character in Elle than LBB has, just an opinion. BOTH are GREAT
+Aimee Russell And, come on. Tbh both of their voices are amazing. Sheridan brought out more character in Elle than LBB has, just an opinion. BOTH are GREAT
I gather a lot of you that have commented haven't seen many musicals live. On the stage many actors of a much older age play teens/younger characters as sitting in the live audience you can't tell at all. I saw Sheridan live as Elle and she was completely remarkable - as is Laura, recorded. As with most shows, every actor has different strengths and weaknesses which level the playing field. They are both truly excellent performers in my opinion :-) x
I worked backstage with sheridan smith on the musical because my nan was work with dogs and she was supplying the dogs for this show and I was helping out. But sheridan is one of the nicest woman I've ever met shes so sweet and the emotion she brought to the stage, during the song legally blonde what you couldn't see in the audience was everyone sobbing in the wings
One thing I’ll give Sheridan that LBB didn’t do, is hold that entire 10 second note at the end. Any time I watched LBB she always took a breath halfway through. That final big belt from Sheridan sold it for me
It's weird. The first time I saw this I didn't like Sheridan Smith as Elle, but the more I watch, the more I start to think she's actually really good in the role.
Love her. The attitude, the look, the voice, the little spins. Saw her perform at The Savoy way back when. Never mind all this ‘she isn’t trained’ or ‘she’s not like so and so’. In musical theatre you either have it or you don’t and Sheridan HAS IT x
Sheridan is my Elle. I saw legally blonde on the Westend than came to youtube and found LBB. They are both extremely good at being Elle but Sheridan was my first and I think she was brilliant. This video doesn't the raw essence she brought to Elle. She was funny, snarky and sassy all at once
I actually adored Sheridan Smith as Elle - I saw her on the west end and it was mind blowing! I can't even listen to the other sound track now, she is my Elle!
tbh, Sheridan is my second favorite Elle. I really like her acting! Although LBB will be the true Broadway Elle Woods (the true Elle woods is Resse Witherspoon), Sheridan is still amazing!
I’ve read in other comment sections that they lowered the key of this song because it seriously damaged LBB’s vocal chords and they didn’t want it to happen to anyone else
shes seriously a firecracker i love her!!! and I LOVEEE the lights during the last note how they sort of dissapear into the dark as the platform rises so different!!
Thanks so much for putting this up. This was always a good number and good first-act finale, but SS is thrilling here. Just found this a month or two ago and will be watching it again and again.
It's agreed that LBB was the best at the role of Elle but that's because she technically made the character come to life. She developed the personality and made it her own and all though she was definitely amazing, no one can change the fact that others were good to. Sheridan is an amazing singer, actor and dancer but it definitely sounds different because of her accent. Put it this way she isn't no LBB but she is better than Bailey - that girls career ended in a flash!
I think my biggest problem with his version is the fact that her accent seems a bit inconsistent. Like, some moments it seems that words are a bit more Americanized, as opposed to her natural British accent. But this woman is talented, no doubt. It can't be easy performing a primarily American musical as actors who do not have the accent as the original movie and Broadway cast. I can imagine the criticism that these American-Britain adaptations have for that one reason, and that's why I still think this was a really good version.
Oh and those who said that she's so much worse than LBB, please check the replacement of LBB in Broadway before you bash Sheridan. Bailey was terrible.
Hmm. Her performance here is very understated I think. Mind you, we British are much more astute and we don't go for the pow factor like Broadway. The energy is much more intense on Broadway.
I love Sheridan Smith. She's great. And kinda the Audra McDonald of the West end. Anyone saying she's terrible needs to go to hell. She's had a phenomenal career.
I saw this in the west end with Sheridan as Elle and she was brilliant! all i'm saying is don't assume from this that she's terrible because she was fabulous and being a singer myself I know for sure her vocal range is amazing!
I love that even though she doesn't look like an "Elle" as some people say, they still casted her and she blew everyone away . Go sheridan! and I love LBB too!
...Hey how did you get this?? Its on the Legally Blonde website, But how did you get it up to UA-cam?? Would Looooooveee for you to put "Legally Blonde" up...?!
to those commenting on her singing - listen to the live recording of the performace at the savoy (its on spotify) she's WAY better. As far as i know, this is just a rehearsal so voices probably had to be saved
It felt a little low energy, but she is still AMAZING! Also, this is random, but I love that they cast a relatively shorter girl to play Elle! It gives me hope! (5 foot with a dream of being on Bway!) but anyways, I love her interpretation of Elle, it's different than LBB but still awesome 👏🏻
Guys just remember that she didn't have an audience to give her a boost or to get a reaction from. True she's not the best I've seen but I'm sure she would perform a lot better with some adrenaline and someone to get a reaction from.
How cute is she!!! She reminds me of Karen in Mean Girls, she has that dumb blonde vibe, but she still sounds smart and witty. 2:04 is where she shines best. She reminds me of Bailey in a less annoying earwormy way.
Sheridan's my second favourite Elle, there's just something about her that's different and I love it, and her lower voice stands out for me. Unfortunately Laura has stolen my heart as Elle. But Sheridan is close :)
Is everyone going to rant about the fact that there are different actresses because they are in different countries or will they notice that Emit actually looks better in the English version?
she is brilliant and those who say otherwise well that is your opinion and i don't agree like you may not agree with me so button it. i have seen the show and met the cast of the original west end show and they were amazing, basing your judgement on videos and not from seeing the article up close is stupid. i have seen this show plenty of times with different elle's and no one beats sheridan or LBB
She acts a better Elle. She doesn't overdo it one bit and all of it just feels like natural raw emotion. Her singing? Could be better. But, as far as acting goes, she is FLAWLESS as Elle Woods. :)
I see a lot of people saying not to compare people. But as a standalone performance, not comparing to anyone else, it's okay but not amazing. If I paid money to see this live I wouldn't be disappointed but I wouldn't be completely blown away either. She doesn't hold her notes long enough and could use some better dynamics, but she got through the number (which is an accomplishment in its own right, this song is a beast) and has really wonderful tone. Definitely could use improvement but is still pretty good. 7.5/10 at least.
I've got to say I don't think that videos of sheridans Elle do her justice, she does so we'll to create a safe and fun environment for the audience and I think with her theatre you need to be in the room or you won't get her you know
@DestructiveMoose I don't know what it is. It might be that I saw Laura Bell on Broadway *before* I saw this. It might be that I think she recaptures a lot of what Reese had in the movie. I don't know, just prefer Laura. *no offense taken ;)
woah these comments are so negative! laura was obviously incredible, but sheridan is just so likable to me, and i think she hides her accent pretty good on top of all the singing and acting and choreo 💛
@pbiasizzo I actually prefer Sheridans performance as Lauras take on Elle seems very obvious and alot like the movie. Sheridan makes Elle her own, shes fresh and new.
I don’t know why, but I feel like something is off from the score when it’s usually in a half key lower than the OBCR. But of course, that’s just me, plus, the performance itself makes up for it.
Everyone he to remember that Sheridan didn't go to drama school. As close as she got was National Youth Theatre so considering she isn't trained intensively for 3/4 years she's done really well. I think she's great and a big fan of her!
Haha it is. She's has got a lot of experience. I agree. I was just saying that she hadn't had the foundation of training is all :)
Drama school isn't the only way to train, she most likely has training, just not from a drama school.
@A M yea Maggie had such an original on Elle I thought
She might not have the energy of LBB, but she sure has more attitude, more fierceness to her portrayal, and that makes her portrayal of Elle Woods an equally intriguing version.
If you want to watch LBB in Legally Blonde, have you considered...watching LBB in Legally Blonde?
I think it's unfair to compare Sheridan to LBB because they are both fantastic actors and singers, they just have their different ways of being Elle! Please don't hate on this I'm just saying.
Katie Alexander agree
She looks way too old to be Elle.
The only comment on this video that is true
What I think happens the most in the different So Much Better video's is that everyone says Bailey & Sheridan were "not very good and that LBB was better" I agree that LBB can't really be replaced, but because she was the original Elle she set an INCREDIBLY high standard and all the other Elle's are still amazing we just compare too much ((:

Agree!!
I didnt like Bailey but I love Sheridan!!!
Laura bell buddy was the best and always will be

theyoungparisians Also, Laura wasn't a spring chicken anymore either when she was Elle! :)
germankiwigal um she was like 26 when she played Elle. That's not exactly old. Sheridan was like almost 30 when she played Elle
Purp13luver Did I say old? I don't think I did. *eyeroll
@@ninninin656 girl u know that the saying "no spring chicken" literally means "no longer young"
One thing I’ll give Sheridan that LBB didn’t do, is hold that entire 10 second note at the end. Any time I watched LBB she always took a breath halfway through. That final big belt from Sheridan sold it for me

I'm the exact same as you! LBB is incredible as Elle but I saw Sheridan before LBB so she is my first view of Elle.
LBB was my first Elle, although Sheridan was brilliant :)
I love LBB and Sheridan equally, they both play Elle completely different ways and both SLAYYYYY
Maybe something strange to say, but what impressed me the most, was Warner's male trio's background vocals at 1:30 Sounds really awesome.
People moaning that she's no good as Elle, maybe she should give that Olivier back then...
That moment when jenna marbles seems to have been elle in broadway
Cannot be unseen!
Sheridan did an amazing job here. She doesn’t deserve the hate at all.
Agree!
Sheridan is Amazing! So talented and down to earth!
I thought she did it well but she didn't bolt it out like Laura Belle did I think her deeper voice would be good for someone in grease
@Mae Mccormack my thoughts EXACTLY!!
She's amazing !!! And come so far 💜
Thanks so much for putting this up. This was always a good number and good first-act finale, but SS is thrilling here. Just found this a month or two ago and will be watching it again and again.

i can hold that last note!!! :)
Saw this live - it was amazing! One of my favourite musicals ...💖
Sheridan is amazing! Feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to meet her!
She’s the best Elle and so natural. Lovely performance, very real. ⭐️
this by far is the best song sheridan did in the show her acting is pretty darn good for someone who hasn't had a complete drama education!
Oh and those who said that she's so much worse than LBB, please check the replacement of LBB in Broadway before you bash Sheridan. Bailey was terrible.
+ctn04132 she's a hairdresser isn't she?
Deirdre Khoo right but Bailey isn't LBB
True shit
Bailey sucked omgggggg
True, bailey didn't do very well. She's totally the reason the show closed 6 months after she was cast as Elle Woods
Honestly she's my favourite Elle❤️ she's gorgeous and so talented
Soo great! Not the same as LBB, but definitely the second best I've seen. Great stuff! Thanks for posting.
I really like the "S" on the handbag, nice touch!
Duncan James from Hollyoaks is Warner and I got so excited
love it!!
Sheridan is amazing💓💓💓
Is there anything sheridan smith can't do? Massive fan, wish legally blonde would come back to the west end with sheridan! Would be amazing😊
Hmm. Her performance here is very understated I think. Mind you, we British are much more astute and we don't go for the pow factor like Broadway. The energy is much more intense on Broadway.
No we do I think it's just how it's directed or some of the actors.😂
Our theatres are also smaller in the west end. I saw Sheridan playing Elle and she was perfect for the size of the room she was playing to
amazing. ♥
Love the end when her name gets spelled ad the purse with the "s" on it in the end
She’s awesome!
Energy?
just what i was going to say! her voice is great but there's no energy in this
Blame West End directing, not her
Here in the UK our shows are a lot less about that "POW" energetic factor than on Broadway
She's so awesome.
I love Sheridan Smith. She's great. And kinda the Audra McDonald of the West end. Anyone saying she's terrible needs to go to hell. She's had a phenomenal career.
Sheridan is freaking amazing.
i LOVE this song a bit too much! Sheridan is a real idol of mine..
I saw this in the west end with Sheridan as Elle and she was brilliant! all i'm saying is don't assume from this that she's terrible because she was fabulous and being a singer myself I know for sure her vocal range is amazing!
3:21 I guess that girl forgot the bag lol
That’s meant to happen aha
Rudi went off
I love her in this role just as much as I enjoy LBB! They both just embody Elle so much!!
I love that even though she doesn't look like an "Elle" as some people say, they still casted her and she blew everyone away . Go sheridan! and I love LBB too!
...Hey how did you get this??
Its on the Legally Blonde website,
But how did you get it up to UA-cam??
Would Looooooveee for you to put "Legally Blonde" up...?!
What can't this girl do
@oNegLeEk
WHAT!!
SHE'S BRILLIANT!!
Yeah she did :)
LIVING for the harmony at 2:21
u have a new fan
i love her take on elle:)
i like how they used the dog for the S in the end
I'm from the US and I LOVE SHERDIAN BETTER THAN LAURA ITS KUST SHERIDAN HAS A VOICE I LOVE TO LISTEN TO 24/7
God it is so weird to see Sheridan playing anybody other than Janet from Two Pints. Not bad, just weird.
I think the same but about her as younger Smithy in Gavin and Stacy
I LOVE legally blonde the musical :D
Omg I Did legally blonde the musical for a play oh my god this song is so nostalgic
to those commenting on her singing - listen to the live recording of the performace at the savoy (its on spotify) she's WAY better. As far as i know, this is just a rehearsal so voices probably had to be saved
I've come here after watching Gavin and Stacey and it's odd to see her in something like this
She's so amazing! And she looks like Stockard Channing from Grease a bit too. O_O
Hell, she sings that song so effortlessly. It's a hard song to sing, in regards to bringing and holding that last note
Guys just remember that she didn't have an audience to give her a boost or to get a reaction from. True she's not the best I've seen but I'm sure she would perform a lot better with some adrenaline and someone to get a reaction from.
When I was a baby gay replaying 1:45 to 1:57 over and over haah
Anyone seen LB on stage more than 5 times?
So true
IT'S DUNCAN FROM BLUE!
@Brunodirection21 yeah she does! Like Jenna marbles and Elizabeth Taylor maybe?
How cute is she!!! She reminds me of Karen in Mean Girls, she has that dumb blonde vibe, but she still sounds smart and witty. 2:04 is where she shines best. She reminds me of Bailey in a less annoying earwormy way.
Sheridan's my second favourite Elle, there's just something about her that's different and I love it, and her lower voice stands out for me. Unfortunately Laura has stolen my heart as Elle. But Sheridan is close :)
Sheridan smith was the best, go girl x
singing this good WHILE keeping the accent? iconic
Is everyone going to rant about the fact that there are different actresses because they are in different countries or will they notice that Emit actually looks better in the English version?
@hollywoodmic How did you download it from the website though??
she is brilliant and those who say otherwise well that is your opinion and i don't agree like you may not agree with me so button it. i have seen the show and met the cast of the original west end show and they were amazing, basing your judgement on videos and not from seeing the article up close is stupid. i have seen this show plenty of times with different elle's and no one beats sheridan or LBB
I was missing the bubbly Elle vibe but she sounds great. Not easy to sing and move around at the same time
Didn't like her as Elle but saw her as Fanny in Funny girl and she was amazing ✨ also is that Ryan from Hollyoaks?😂
She didn't go to drama school?!?!? She's amazing!!!!!
Susan looks so cute up there!
The length of that last note though...
Does anyone have the full London proshot to share with me?
She acts a better Elle. She doesn't overdo it one bit and all of it just feels like natural raw emotion. Her singing? Could be better. But, as far as acting goes, she is FLAWLESS as Elle Woods. :)
No one is going to talk about the fact Duncan James is Warner?

I simply up-converted the video downloaded from the UK site. I used VirtuaDub - to re-size, smooth out and fix the colors before posting.
@mikeride101 Once downloaded and upconverted (also color corrected, gamma smoothing) I just uploaded it.
Is the key changed or is it just me?
@slingstarhopper
Can you please the others that!!
I've got to say I don't think that videos of sheridans Elle do her justice, she does so we'll to create a safe and fun environment for the audience and I think with her theatre you need to be in the room or you won't get her you know
She'd suit being Rizzo from Grease 'so much better'.
@DestructiveMoose I don't know what it is. It might be that I saw Laura Bell on Broadway *before* I saw this. It might be that I think she recaptures a lot of what Reese had in the movie. I don't know, just prefer Laura. *no offense taken ;)
She's okay. Not that great. Doesn't fit the role to me. She'd be an amazing rizzo in grease
+Bethany Miranda shes about to play Fanny Brice in Funny Girl!!
+Peter Ger THAT she will be AWESOME in!
It's funny when I read this comment I was thinking that she looked like rizzo.
Bethany Miranda I saw her in funny girl she was amazing in it
Bethany Miranda yes!!!
woah these comments are so negative! laura was obviously incredible, but sheridan is just so likable to me, and i think she hides her accent pretty good on top of all the singing and acting and choreo 💛
