Thank you for making this video. I thought the rules overview was done very well and more concise than my instructional video. We appreciate all the feedback. One of the reasons we are doing a Kickstarter is to upgrade the components, add more content and reduce the cost. We also hope to add new content to the game, which is already in the digital version, that will make it more fun for beginning players and help ease them into the very difficult pace of the base game. We also would like to take into account what our community would like to see in a 2nd edition.
Thanks so much :), and that sounds excellent i’m really interested to see what you guys have in store for the kickstarter and the future, I hope you have a successful kickstarter campaign 😀
Great review. I like your perspective, your reasoning, and how you are clearly explain your experience. Thank you.. But although my impression of how good you are in doing this - It just makes me want much much much more reviews than you currently have in your channel. Good luck!
I just played this for the first time over at Emerald Tavern here in Austin. I loved it. It's a challenge to get past the rule book for the first time, but once I got into the meat of the game, I found that the gameplay was fast-paced, which felt like playing Diablo for PC. Kill the monster, get the loot, level up, avoid the traps, trade your gear. I only got to the second level of the dungeon because it was my first time playing, but I'm gonna be back soon and I'll play it again.
I bought this game at least a couple of years ago, and I think your review was on point. It's a fun game, and I houseruled it to make it more fun for me. I like your suggestion regarding having levels of loot to match the level of each dungeon. I think that would make a big difference. Thanks for the video!
Great description of the rules! You definitely can get better at the game. I think I win about 1/3 of the time and one of the designers wins about 2/5 or more. I honestly don't think I'd have played it as many times as I have if it were much easier. Part of getting better at the game is actually knowing when to use your items or take hits instead of using luck, which becomes much more useful in levels 4 and 5 so that you DO have more agency there. But yeah, levels 1-3 are meant to build you up and levels 4 and 5 are meant to grind you down so you don't roll the boss. It's a tough balance.
Thanks, and yea for sure I get that, I definitely wouldn’t want it any easier I just wish there was a little more you could do strategically to deal with it’s difficulty. I’m definitely not saying there’s no strategy at all to prevent damage but often early on in the game it was either discard a weapon, use a luck token or I’d be dead so the choice was almost made for me at that point. But that’s just my opinion I know many people wouldn’t necessarily agree.
One thing that really stands out in all of your videos is their quality. It's crystal clear you put a lot of effort into it! I'm not sure if this was a sponsored video but if it was, I think you need to highlight it a bit more in the beginning of the video? Not trying to be a douchebag here - just want you to stay safe with these kind of things on UA-cam :) The game looks definitely interesting. The only thing I found missing in your review is a bit more info about this expansion that adds a 3 player mode. I'm curious how it plays with 2 / 3 players, what rules change, etc. I will do some reading on it when the kickstarter launches. A side-question - I know you love War of the Ring and have some videos on it. It's clear it's a great game but recently, I saw there's a War of the Ring: The Card Game from 2022. Have you checked it out? Do you think it's worth it for someone who doesn't own the board version? Maybe a video about it would be a cool idea as well!
Thanks so much I appreciate that and I appreciate the heads up about making it clear if it’s sponsored or not i wasn’t sponsored to put out this video in that I didn’t receive any money to put it out or anything like that the publisher offered me the game to provide an honest review but nothing beyond that I mentioned that at the end but I definitely could have at the beginning too you’re right. I mentioned it a bit that it was available I may have edited that out though I can’t remember now lol I’m not too sure what changes it adds I just received the base game without the expansion but that would be interesting to see how that plays out for sure. I haven’t tried the card game yet that’s one high on my list or games to get I’ll try to put some content out on it when I get it for sure. Thanks for the feedback :)
I always enjoy your review videos and regard them highly. Therefore, I was disappointed to hear how 'lucky' this game is. I've never understood why so many are fine with crazy luck in games. (Then again, look how many people play slot machines by the hour, even though they have zero chance of affecting their low odds of winning.) But I wish this game mitigated and balanced the luck-control-random element better, because I actually really like the look of it.
@@ButOneThingIsNeedful thanks so much, that’s a great point about the slot machines and I guess monopoly is one of the most popular games out there and it’s mainly just luck with dice rolling too. This game definitely has potential im hoping they change a few things during the kickstarter campaign. I haven’t played iron helm I’ll add that to my wish list :)
@@ButOneThingIsNeedful it’s supposed to be, I didn’t know about it until I posted my video but I included the link in the video’s description to follow it, I believe it’s starting in June
All rogue-like games are luck based, dependent on the seed you get when you start the game. Sometimes you'll find the exact items you need to defeat the exact challenge at hand, sometimes you won't, and there's nothing you can do about it. Like it's video game counter parts, the seed in this game is created when you initially shuffle the cards, and as the player you are meant to see if you can survive through that particular seed or not. However, like in a game of Iron Helm or Tin Helm, there is also some crucial knowledge that the player knows to help them overcome the luck, mainly which rooms you have visited, and which are left in the deck. This will help you determine one of the major choices you face in this game - how and when to spend and use your items and resources.

Appreciate how you discussed pros AND cons, and the fact you had the guts to call it straight up "ok". Thanks.

What a brilliant, quick, concise, video. I've been looking into more solo games and this is a light enough, very intuitive choice. Thanks!

Key is to spender xp to raise you stats remember you win if dice roll lower so higher it is better chance to hit or succeed at skill

The game is just too difficult and too much based on luck. Poor design.
It definitely is very dependent on luck for sure I think if they tweaked a few things it could definitely be a really good game though
