Very cool. Did you put spacers/washers on the lag bolts between the rail and ceiling? If not, you might want to, so you can snug the lag bolts up solid. Otherwise over time, the swinging tire motion may start to elongate the holes in the wood and drywall, loosening the rail.
My head hurt just trying to understand the engineering involved with this! I would stick with the barbarian way and struggle carrying rims up the ladder. 💪
Hey nice build! Have very similar setup, but upgrading mine... Going to get the rack lowered to load all 4 with one lift. Got 3 cars that I take care... One detail, when screwing in the ceiling for the joist, have to make sure you are not going only thru a strapping, but in a joist. Stud finder will get you those strapping! I when in the attic and braced from there.
Love your content, just wondering if you have ever considered changing your camshaft position sensors on the boxster. I need to do it and I’m having trouble even finding the bank 2 sensor, once again your content has saved me $$ and I appreciate that
Don't go any higher on the load. That C channel is likely not designed for horizontal loads. When I had the same lift in my garage, I had to go through the same process to mount it. Can't see another way unless you lower it with threaded rod?
I will try something similar, I don't like the idea of having to climb a ladder to place the tires in the rack. I will use the hoist to raise and lower the entire rack.
@@HelpMeDIY easy enough to anchor a rope with tie down points while hoisting. and to get more fancy, sailing rope grippers would be even better and still quite cheap.
@@davidjtepper winding the rope around a cleat might work as well. But you'd have to have the strength to pull the tire up; what would you suggest to make it easier?
@@talleysuehohlfeld3959 I have a three pulley system for hoisting a 100 lb Thule 4-bike tray rack up on the wall in my garage. I anchor it with a cleat. It's pretty easy to hoist up and down. I am working on a three pulley hoist system for raising and lowering my wheels (tires mounted on spare alloy rims) for seasonal tire swaps (summers vs. winters) onto a high shelf in my garage.
nice, but did you need the electric winch? compound pulleys do wonders. I'm 5'2" and hand carry my seasonal wheels/tires up to my Schawben tires cradle, w/a ladder. it's 2x/yr and not a big deal... IDK 🫤

+george louie yes! I’m going to do that for sure, thanks for mentioning it 😁

+Alexandre Beaulieu yes, thanks!
Nice system. Very nice.
Cross your fingers for me. This afternoon and tomorrow, I am removing and replacing a/c compressor on my Boxster.
+Michael Weimorts good luck! Film it and I’ll put it on the channel 😉

+Zachary Huish glad to help. Fortunately (for me) I have never needed to do that, sorry.
@@HelpMeDIY all good, watched your vid on how to remove the aos and it was right under it, so you did help me indirectly!

+Tacklebuster oooh… that will be pretty cool!
How many lag bolts did you use to hold that? Just one on each end? Can you also let me know the length of the Unistrut… maybe 5 feet?
+@robotpedlr 3 or 4 I think. Link is in the description
Where did you get the two brackets that you mounted over the unistrut to hang the hoist from?
+@number6990 links in the description
Hello, can you put a link up for the strap you using to go around the wheel when lifting it?
+Dragan Lazin that strap came with the winch
nice build!
+Matt Vaughan thanks 🙏
Hey there! This is a very very smart idea and I am planning to do it in my garage. You only used two lag bolts, correct?
+Lane040189 I believe so… whatever I showed in the video 😁
@@HelpMeDIY I watched the video but I wasn't sure since you showed a middle bolt. Did you just put one just to hold it temporarily?
@@Lane040189 no I didn’t do any temporary ones that I recall. I guess I need to rewatch 😂
@@HelpMeDIY I see. Thanks again!
How much did it all cost
+Frank M there are links to it all in the description. I don’t remember off the top of my head.
A simple pulley would've worked and been lighter, cheaper, more elegant, etc
+tonkmonster simple pulleys don’t lock and hold the load in place for you. So for that reason, they were out for me

😂 (I get it smarter not harder) couldn’t carry the wheel and tire 🤣. (Start doing some push-ups)
