- Unfortunately, deleting photos & videos from Google Photos without deleting from your phone is a bit tricky! But don't worry, I'll show you 2 solutions to delete photos & videos from Google Photos finally!
IMPORTANT: Different phones call different names their default app for photo viewing. In the above phone (Sony), it's called "Album", Samsung = Gallery, etc. What is it called in your phone?

Google Photos is called Photos on Android phones & Google Photos is called Google Photos on iPhone & Photos App on iPhone is Apple's Photos App
On android phones, in addition to Google Photos app, you'll have another photo viewer app!
Your photo viewer might be called a different name depending on your phone's company. For example, on Samsung it's called Gallery, & on Sony it's called Album.
What is it called in your phone, please let me know in the comments?
Album = Gallery
In album or gallery, you can only find photos & videos that are stored on your phone!
In Google Photos, you could see all the photos & videos that are stored on your phone as well as all the photos & videos stored online in the cloud.
All the photos in here have got the cloud icon, it means they're stored online in Google Photos. These photos are also stored in the phone. But, it's also possible to have photos that are stored in the cloud but not in the phone!
"Delete from device" will delete the photos or videos from your phone but it'll keep in the cloud. It's a good option to save space from your phone while still having access to the photos & videos through Google Photos.
1:15 - First time deleting a photo. Later, you'll get a more simple message.
IMPORTANT: It means if you'd select "Move to the bin", Google Photos will delete your selected photos & videos from both the phone & the cloud.
It also means that if the selected photos & videos is stored in another phone, tablet, pc, etc. that has got the backup turned ON, then it'll also delete them from those devices too!
Since these photos were stored on my phone as well as the cloud, now they're deleted from both.
Step 1: Turn OFF the backup
IMPORTANT: Turning off backup doesn't mean that you could now delete photos from your Google Photos & it'll just delete from the cloud!
In the Album or Gallery, those photos are also deleted.

Basically not giving access to your storage will disable your Google Photos & make it redundant! Not a good idea!
In fact Google Photos is one of the best photos & videos apps. You just need to learn how to use it properly.
WARNING:
If you haven't turned off Google Photos backup on any device (such as your phone) that contains the original photo or video, then irrespective of which method you follow, the original photo will also be deleted.
These are all the photos & videos that are stored online/cloud. Original photo or video could still be stored in your phone (or any other device).
WARNING: It'll delete it from your phone too if you got the backup ON on your phone.
Solution 2: Deleting the photos & videos from Google Photos cloud but not from the phone but in the phone.

The more people make these videos, the more tricky google has made it. I turned off back up, deleted some photos, and google still deleted them both in my phone and on the sd card. They really are evil. There is no end to what lengths they'll go to in order to coerce more money out of us.
You have to delete it from a browser. If you use the phone app it will delete both.

I am not sure if the second option works or not. For me, I have my app backup in off mode, but when I try to delete the photo on website, it just delete my photo on the app, too.

thank you so much! i was so confused what the rules were regarding deleting photos from the cloud but your explanation was super clear! also as a tip, it takes less time to delete when you're using a a keyboard. you can zoom out by a lot in the browser and hold "shift" + "left click" to select a lot of photos at a time. it took me a min at most to delete all my photos & videos after i used this method

Glad I could help! Many years ago, Google Photos was allowing people to backup unlimited number of photos without taking the storage. Nowadays, it doesn't make sense to backup as it'll get full pretty quick. After deleted the backed up photos as shown above & having your back up off, Google Photos won't backup your photos from that device anymore.

I have a doubt after deleting the items on PC "by turning of the backup" button, do they get removed from device when we turn backup option back on again on mobile?
Good question. When you say deleting the items from PC, do you mean from Google Photos on the PC? You have to turn off the backup in order to prevent the same photos from deleting from other devices, particularly the device were the original photos are saved. Then, after turning back ON the backup from the device where the original photos are saved, then those photos would be again backed up & get uploaded to the cloud.

You're most welcome. Yes, if you'd turn backup on again, then Google Photos will start to uploading all your photos again until it's full. I suggest you to instead manually backup to Google Photos when needed.
Thanks, but there is also a problem..if we use browser to delete on same phone then browser also can acess to phone's storage and can delete from device too..to avoid it, storage access permission to browser needs to be withdrawn.
But it will work for all photos except camera folder photos in Xiaomi, Vivo, oppo and realme.These phone have thier photo app integrated with google photos.
To work this trick , you just have to turn off your phone's photo app access in google photos app setting.

What if I had disabled the app or hide it from the user through the ADB? Would that also work? Samsung already has a OneUI gallery and it's pity that after logging into your Google account, the Photos app would automatically opt-in for the backups. This wasn't the case with my Pixel 6a, thankfully.

Thanks for the great video however once you turn the backup and sync to on, because you have taken more photos and want them saved to the Cloud, then the photos earlier deleted from the Cloud, will now sync and get deleted from your phone ie you always have to keep the back up turned off to stop this but then you are not backing up your photos anymore.

For example, could it be that Google Photos remembers what's deleted from the photos that are in Bin Folder? 👉 How to recover deleted photo from Google Photos - ua-cam.com/video/9kVnGw_x0CM/v-deo.html . I wonder if you remove the photos from the bin (permanently delete), and then turn back ON the sync whether it'll still be able to delete from the phone? However, if you'd turn back on the sync then all your photos & videos will be backed up again - even the ones that you've already deleted from the cloud.
Instead, I recommend these steps 👇

4) Delete All your photos & videos from Google Cloud as shown in 4:07 (IMPORTANT - TURN OFF SYCN FROM ALL YOUR DEVICES FIRST!)
Now, simply keep your sync off and use Google Photos app as a photo viewer/editor app only, happily ever after again! Any questions, please let me know?

Google started excessively uploading my camera roll onto Photos in order to force me to pay them money. When I deleted photos from my phone, it didn't tell me that it was also deleting from my actual fucking phone storage until I tried to delete a video. Now I have to free up MORE storage in order to restore them TO MY OWN PHONE! I am deleting google photos immediately after getting my photos back

Sir can be turn on back up after deleting photos from cloud without affecting anything
As soon as you turn back up backup, Google Photos will start to backup all your photos & videos! Plus, after deleting the photos, the photos goes to the Bin. So, Google Photos still has a copy of the photos that are deleted. So, I recommend to clear your Google Photo's bin before turning back on the backup, otherwise, Google Photos might still delete those photos from your phone.

Hi. When you say google photos, do you mean google photos on your phone or cloud? Once you turn off the sync, google photos app on your phone is just used for viewing /editing the photos and videos on your phone.

The video above shows steps by steps how to delete photos & videos from Google Photos Cloud but keeping them on your device (phone, tablet, etc). I've put a lot of efforts to make it as clear as possible. You might have to watch the video twice to better understand the concept as it's a bit complicated concept & confusing. It's confusing because Google Photos App is not a Cloud App (but can be). Google Photos can be used for backing up your photos & videos & syncing. But you don't have to. The best app to view photos & videos on phones is Google Photos app and not the "Gallery (Samsung)" or Album (Sony), etc. So, once you turn off the backup in Google Photos, you could then use it to view the photos & videos. Again, watch the video again & it'll become clearer. Is there any language subtitle that you'd want me to add to the video to make it easier to understand?
What happens if I turn back up on after doing this? Will it then delete from my phone?
As soon as you turn back backup, it'll start to backup all your photos. Meanwhile, as long as there's a copy of the delete photos in the bin, google photos could still delete those photos from all your devices after turning back on the backup. So, you can delete them from the bin first & then turn backup.
So what you are saying is that the pictures still show up on the photos app but that doesn't necessarily mean theyre on the cloud?
One thing I find weird is that when I take a new picture it still shows up on the photos app, again that doesn't mean the pictures were uploaded to the cloud right?

After restoring your backup data in new phone if your delete photos or video from google photos does it will autometically delete from your old device
If you'd keep the backup off on the old phone, then turning the backup on the new phone shouldn't delete the photos from the old phone. When Google Photos backup is ON on any device, then Google Photos will try to sync all the photos of all the devices. When you turn the Google Photos backup OFF, then you're in effect disconnecting Google Photos from syncing the changes (deleting photos, etc.) from that device. I hope it makes sense.
I was saying that if I delete photo from Google photos in new device does the photo in old device will be automatically deleted

@@tressygaming I'm sorry about the confusion. It's a bit complicated. On the new phone it could be deleted. I suggest you to go to the bin of Google Photos in the browser & empty it, then google photos won't know that you've deleted that photo & hence it won't delete it from the new phone after turning on the backup.

This is what I do:
1. Turn off back up
2. Delete some pictures/videos on google photos
3. Go back to your photos app
4. Restore all the pics
5. Restart google photos app and they should be gone from your cloud
For me at least, this works only with photos because my videos are still there but it freed some storage for me. Hope this helped

1. Anything backed up online such as photos, files, videos, etc on Google or any other account can leak if your account is hacked!
To prevent your account from getting hacked, you should following

d. Have a very strong & unique password for important accounts.
To permanently delete all of your backed up photos from Google ⬇

b. After downloading, select photos - ua-cam.com/video/u2_lX3Jp8I4/v-deo.html
c. Use the above as shown in 4:28 to delete the selected photos until all photos are deleted.
d. Finally, go to the Bin folder of the google photos cloud, & permanently delete them from the Bin. Note. deleted photos will remain online (bin) for around 60 days if not deleted manually.

It looks like all you did was turn off the sync/backup on the app and then go onto chrome and start deleting the photos...I feel like there's a missed step...

Very good question. It'll then would start to backup all your photos and videos again. Though, some people have commented that after turning back on the backup, google photos would then delete the photos from the phone. That might be because the deleted photos would be saved in the bin folder 60 days. So, if you'd empty the bin, then it should be fine. I've turned the backup off in photos and then deleted it on the photos web browser, but it still deletes it from my phone instead of the cloud only. Why is this?
Are you sure you've deleted from the web browser? Did you use web browser on your phone? Sometimes, when you go to the google photos on the web browser in your phone, it'll automatically open the google photos app. So, you might be thinking that you're in the web browser but you're actually on the app. I suggest you to go Google Photos Cloud on a computer to be on the safe side. @@bhupindertube Yes, I did use the web browser on my phone because I don't have access to a computer I could do it on, but I did what you did in the video when doing it through the phone. Is there a way to tell if it is opening the app as you said? Cause when I did it, it kept me on the Google browser and not opening the app. Also is there any way to prevent this from happening on the phone's web browser?
I deleted from google and its not deleted from phone .but when i went back to google photos it is still there. Plz can anyone help.

You could remove google photos app if you're on iPhone (iOS) and nothing happens. But if you're on an android phone, then it's better to keep it as it's the best app for viewing & editing photos on an android phone!
Instead of removing the Google Photos app, do the following 👇

3) Backup all your downloaded photos & videos to 2 different external drives (2 copies) & store the SSD/HD Drives in 2 different locations (eg., 1 home & 2 office) for physical safety (SSD - ua-cam.com/video/wUvrXOCi9WA/v-deo.html or hard drive - ua-cam.com/video/Oqg8iUFJHsU/v-deo.html)
4) Delete All your photos & videos from Google Cloud as shown in 4:07 (IMPORTANT - TURN OFF SYCN FROM ALL YOUR DEVICES FIRST!)
