Google Photos is called Photos on Android phones & Google Photos is called Google Photos on iPhone & Photos App on iPhone is Apple's Photos App
On android phones, in addition to Google Photos app, you'll have another photo viewer app!
Your photo viewer might be called a different name depending on your phone's company. For example, on Samsung it's called Gallery, & on Sony it's called Album.
What is it called in your phone, please let me know in the comments?
Album = Gallery
In album or gallery, you can only find photos & videos that are stored on your phone!
In Google Photos, you could see all the photos & videos that are stored on your phone as well as all the photos & videos stored online in the cloud.
All the photos in here have got the cloud icon, it means they're stored online in Google Photos. These photos are also stored in the phone. But, it's also possible to have photos that are stored in the cloud but not in the phone!
"Delete from device" will delete the photos or videos from your phone but it'll keep in the cloud. It's a good option to save space from your phone while still having access to the photos & videos through Google Photos.
1:15 - First time deleting a photo. Later, you'll get a more simple message.
IMPORTANT: It means if you'd select "Move to the bin", Google Photos will delete your selected photos & videos from both the phone & the cloud.
It also means that if the selected photos & videos is stored in another phone, tablet, pc, etc. that has got the backup turned ON, then it'll also delete them from those devices too!
Since these photos were stored on my phone as well as the cloud, now they're deleted from both.
Step 1: Turn OFF the backup
IMPORTANT: Turning off backup doesn't mean that you could now delete photos from your Google Photos & it'll just delete from the cloud!
In the Album or Gallery, those photos are also deleted.
Feel free to skip to
2 solutions to delete photos & videos from Google Photos
Solution 1: 3:54 minute
Solution 2: 5:15 minute
Basically not giving access to your storage will disable your Google Photos & make it redundant! Not a good idea!
In fact Google Photos is one of the best photos & videos apps. You just need to learn how to use it properly.
WARNING:
If you haven't turned off Google Photos backup on any device (such as your phone) that contains the original photo or video, then irrespective of which method you follow, the original photo will also be deleted.
These are all the photos & videos that are stored online/cloud. Original photo or video could still be stored in your phone (or any other device).
WARNING: It'll delete it from your phone too if you got the backup ON on your phone.
Solution 2: Deleting the photos & videos from Google Photos cloud but not from the phone but in the phone.

God dam legend, the day i started to use google photo is the worst day of my life
fr
The more people make these videos, the more tricky google has made it. I turned off back up, deleted some photos, and google still deleted them both in my phone and on the sd card. They really are evil. There is no end to what lengths they'll go to in order to coerce more money out of us.
You have to delete it from a browser. If you use the phone app it will delete both.
Use a pc

Can confirm that it works! Even as up to February of 2024! Thank you very much for this tutorial🎉 I've been struggling for a while with this Google Photos app
Great to hear!
@@bhupindertube
Hi..Im using pixel 6a and i followed your steps. I turned off back up, deleted some photos from browser using photos, and google still deleted them both in my phone and cloud.Kindly suggeste solution?
@@bhupindertube Hello brother, if my Google account deletes my photos or video from the Google Photos site because it has not been activated for two years, will this affect my UA-cam channel account So they delete my videos on UA-cam channel or not? I say no
@@Simrann08yes same happened with me.... no solution for this i guess
Great! It works! I deleted pictures and videos from the cloud without deleting from my phone while only using my phone instead of a PC. Thank you!
I have watched a dozen videos on how to delete Google Photos, without deleting them from my iPhone. You are the first approached that worked. Thank you!!!!!
Why would you have google photos on an iphone? 🤣
Just get an android phone if you're gonna use g photos
You're most welcome!
@@CartoonWeasel Google Photos is better than iPhone's Photos in iPhone, just like everybody is using Google Maps on iPhone. As well as you could get 5 GB free cloud storage on Google Photos on iPhone.
goated tutorial, still works in august 2024
quick summary, disable backup, go to google photos in browser, delete photos from there
Yes it works
@@shanofhind Thanks for the confirmation 🎈🎈
I appreciate this so much. I found out the hard way google make all their apps share the same storage. Had some important emails that I needed to receive and its been full for a while, I can't thank you enough!
Glad I could help!
Omgosh thank you so much- this has been a really annoying issue for me because my storage is constantly full and I can't make edits to documents in my Google account - so I turned off the sync and deleted from the account like you suggested. Really appreciate you making this video with step-by-step instructions!!
First of all, I'm glad that this video helped you to manage your google account. I've to confess, Google Photos has made this process too complicated & just because of this many people are turned off from using Google Photos App, which in my opinion is one of the best apps for viewing Photos & Videos on Any Phone!
@@bhupindertube You're so right!!
Thank you so much for this! I have been trying to figure out this Google Photos thing for weeks and everywhere just says turn off the back-up which as you know does not solve the problem of it not deleting my photos from my phone. Thank you so much! You are amazing!
You're most welcome. It's astonishingly complicated to delete photos.
I explicitly do not backup to cloud, but it is required if editing with Magic Editor or sharing. As backup is off, and the photos are backed up manually, removing them from the cloud does not remove from device.
Great video, explains well how it works!
Thank you so much my storage was full and i didn't know what to do but you helped me alot💚
Glad I could help!
@@bhupindertube I have moved the photos in SD card. Now if I delete from Google photos and it will also delete from SD card?
@@syedasharimam Yes, it'll. It doesn't matter better it's SD card or internal storage. Unless you remove the SD card first.
Jesus bro, you are a hero! This is the only viable solution. Huge thanks
not working 😢 it is deleting both cloud and device photos
even after turning of backup option
I am not sure if the second option works or not. For me, I have my app backup in off mode, but when I try to delete the photo on website, it just delete my photo on the app, too.
me too
same any luck??
Me too,
Me too 😢
It won't delete anything for me😭
thank you so much! i was so confused what the rules were regarding deleting photos from the cloud but your explanation was super clear! also as a tip, it takes less time to delete when you're using a a keyboard. you can zoom out by a lot in the browser and hold "shift" + "left click" to select a lot of photos at a time. it took me a min at most to delete all my photos & videos after i used this method
You're most welcome! Thanks for your tip for selecting photos.
I have made another video for selecting photos on computer - ua-cam.com/video/u2_lX3Jp8I4/v-deo.html
Or if you want to download all your photos to your computer from Google Photos Cloud in one go - ua-cam.com/video/rvwSsaAHxz8/v-deo.html
This worked terrifically. Thank you for sharing this tip!!!!
You're welcome! I'm glad to hear that 🙏
real video starts at #3:00
So helpful ivee been stuck on this for two years
Thank you for this…finally I can understand how to fix the issue with my photos being captured by google!
I appreciate this so much. I found out the hard way google make all their apps share the same storage. Had some important emails that I needed to receive and its been full for a while,I can't thank you enough!how to stop photos backing up to google photos
Glad I could help! Many years ago, Google Photos was allowing people to backup unlimited number of photos without taking the storage. Nowadays, it doesn't make sense to backup as it'll get full pretty quick. After deleted the backed up photos as shown above & having your back up off, Google Photos won't backup your photos from that device anymore.
omg this is truly working! I've done so many research regarding this issue but I don't fins the reliable one until I decided to watch in UA-cam. Thank you very much! Im so happy it works even if it's June 29, 2024 now.💜
not working 😢 it is deleting both cloud and device photos
Great video. Thank you for your valuable knowledge 🙏🏽
Glad it was helpful!
Godddddd....you don't know what you just did❤thank you sooo muchhh
Bravo!!! Thank you for the solution. Google Photos is very useful but also INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING.
Thank you for this, turns out to be way more complicated than it should be, thanks google.
Glad it helped!
Definitely works! But once we turn back on the synch/backup, won't it just put everything back to the cloud?
I was thinking the same 😭😭
Great work. There is no helpful videos out there in this topic. Thank you so much for this video
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. I will delete most photos on Google Accounts and don't wanna use Google Photos App on my phone again😢
Yup it worked perfectly. Thanks for the information:)
You're welcome!
You have told us a very important thing.Thank you very much sir
Thanks and welcome
Thank u soo much bro this helped me soo much i searcherd for hours in google but it didnt even say how to solve it so thank u soo much 😊
If i turn on backup after use you steps, the photos in gallery will delete or not?
Thank you very much! Does this work for videos too? It's not working for me for videos.
Very informative and helpful thankyou! But I have a query.. what will happen if I turn on the back up afterwards to back up some future photos that I really want backed up online.. shall my previous cloud removed photos be deleted from my device?
Happened to me. Once I turn on backup after a week all the old deleted automatically. This options is useless .
my sister help me find this video, and it works🎉🎉 thank you so muchhhh!!! ❤
You're welcome!! Great of her for sharing it 🙏
Thank you so much for this! However I have a question. If I turn back up back on, won't be photo on my phone just be re-backed up to Google photos again?
You're most welcome. Yes, if you'd turn backup on again, then Google Photos will start to uploading all your photos again until it's full. I suggest you to instead manually backup to Google Photos when needed.
@@bhupindertube How do you manually backup to Google Photos? Also....I can't download all my photos/videos to my laptop because I don't have enough memory. Is there anyway to back them up straight to an external hard drive from an android phone. I have a Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G phone.
Thank you so much, your explanation is the only one that makes sense and I appreciate you so much for making this video!!
You're most welcome. Glad it was helpful! I put a lot of efforts in making this video as clear as possible as it's a very complicated thing to understand.
@@bhupindertube Yes I find that no one else could explain it the way you did, so I greatly appreciate it!
He explained in a very correct manner .....👏👏👏👏
Very very very thank you brother..my google account storage had filled up and so I could not get any messages on gmail..but couldnt delete the already backed up photos from photos...For many days was in tension..but bow itll be solved
And the patient and gradual way you explained..step by step everything 👍👏
Superb solution 👍thanks a lot
Welcome 👍
That's so useful!!!! I have a question though. Let's say we turned backup off and delete the photos we wanted from Google photos. If we turn back up on the photos we already deleted from photos but not device will be deleted too? Also currently I have photos in my Google photos, PC and phone so what's happening in that case?
Thank you. Really helpful for managing my photos
Happy to help!
Thanks for the great video however once you turn the backup and sync to on, because you have taken more photos and want them saved to the Cloud, then the photos earlier deleted from the Cloud, will now sync and get deleted from your phone ie you always have to keep the back up turned off to stop this but then you are not backing up your photos anymore.
I'm glad you like the video and thanks for the comment. I would have to further investigate this issue. For example, could it be that Google Photos remembers what's deleted from the photos that are in Bin Folder? 👉 How to recover deleted photo from Google Photos - ua-cam.com/video/9kVnGw_x0CM/v-deo.html . I wonder if you remove the photos from the bin (permanently delete), and then turn back ON the sync whether it'll still be able to delete from the phone? However, if you'd turn back on the sync then all your photos & videos will be backed up again - even the ones that you've already deleted from the cloud.
Instead, I recommend these steps 👇
1) Turn Off Google Sync - ua-cam.com/video/MmCQJYRSWGA/v-deo.html
2) Download all your google photos & videos from the cloud - ua-cam.com/video/rvwSsaAHxz8/v-deo.html
3) Backup all your downloaded photos & videos to 2 different external drives (2 copies) & store the SSD/HD Drives in 2 different locations (eg., 1 home & 2 office) for physical safety (SSD - ua-cam.com/video/wUvrXOCi9WA/v-deo.html or hard drive - ua-cam.com/video/Oqg8iUFJHsU/v-deo.html)
4) Delete All your photos & videos from Google Cloud as shown in 4:07 (IMPORTANT - TURN OFF SYCN FROM ALL YOUR DEVICES FIRST!)
Now, simply keep your sync off and use Google Photos app as a photo viewer/editor app only, happily ever after again! Any questions, please let me know?
thank you for the solution, but if I turn the backup option back on, it would update my photos and delete the picture from device as well, right?
You're most welcome! No, it'll back them up again.
@@bhupindertube I meant the ones I just deleted from Google Photos, but not from the phone
Thank u so much!! U explained everything and it really worked!!!
Excellent, solved the problem, well explained and it did practically solve the issue!
Most welcome 😊
Hey Bhupinder! This video was really helpful. I've one doubt, after doing this process and clearing the cloud storage, when we'll turn on the back up option again in Google photos- all the photos we have in the phone storage will again start uploading on the cloud?
Hi there. Good question. Yes, as soon as you turn ON the back up again, it'll start uploading all your photos & videos that are stored in your phone!
Thank youuu sooo much for this!! It really works!!
Glad it helped!
google album is the worst, I`m so traumatized.
I cannot wait to try this. I have lost so many pics.
This was driving me nutsss thank you
Thank you so much. But I still have a problem! After deleting it as instructed, it still says in google drive that google photos is taking up all the space.
THANK YOU! This whole system is unbelievably shady. Google is obviously obfuscating things on purpose to make people worried about deleting things from their device. This whole process could have been as simple as a single button press, but instead they make you jump through hoops because they can't make it easy to stop using their services. On top of everything, there's no way to select all photos on the desktop web app. So after you figure out that the mobile app lacks the most basic functionality of deleting photos from BACKUP ONLY and not local storage, you have to know to use the web app, then scroll down and select chunks of images at a time, but not TOO large of chunks or the shift + click functionality will break. Fuck Google, this whole thing pisses me off.
Thank you so much! Still works in septembrer 2024
If I already backed up all photos from my Samsung to a portable drive, is there a faster way to delete some photos on Google and free up spaces? Thanks for your advice.
June 23 2024 I can confirm that this actually still works guys tysm sir
Thank you . I wish you could mark photos rather than tapping on each end, individual photo such as hold one photo and drag down the screen
Video is nice and helpful. But sentences are more complex to understand. But it helpful
Thanks for this video! Felt like cursing google photos for life hahaha, ur a savior!!!!
Happy to help!
It works. But what if we need to turn on the backup again? Will the deleted photos get deleted from the phone after doing that or will they stay?
It worked! Thank you ❤
You're welcome!
Thank you so much for this video, it's so helpful!
You're most welcome!
Hi it does work i used the very last step to open via chrome on Mobile phone, my question is i don't wanna keep pictures on Google photos that are already backed up, how i can delete them all in one go?
Hi. When you say google photos, do you mean google photos on your phone or cloud? Once you turn off the sync, google photos app on your phone is just used for viewing /editing the photos and videos on your phone.
@@bhupindertube i want to delete pics from Google photos application bcz it's constantly showing full storage everytime i open gmail, i have turned off back up
Hi..Im using pixel 6a and i followed your steps. I turned off back up in phone and deleted some photos from laptop browser llike u told and google still deleted them both in my phone and cloud.Kindly suggeste solution?
Thanks you so much for the help 🥰
You’re welcome 😊
I have a question, after deleting it and after 60 days, it'll be permanently deleted on google photos, will it affect the ones in my gallery?
I don't think it should? I tried this with a video I didn't care about and it looks like it's still on my phone but not taking up storage. And I did go and permanently delete it from google photos. Not sure if how it works as a long term thing tho?
@potato8631 thank you !
THE ONLY TUTORIAL THAT WORKED HUHU
Thank you sooo much. Very helpful video👍👍
Glad it was helpful!
Yes a bit tricky is right. I think it is crap that we have to go through so much when we had no idea that we even allowed it. I am really tired of having to delete photos multi times to find out all the hours I took to delete them one was for nothing. This is NOTHING against your video. It's great but just too much for me. I just want google photos to STOP saving my photos when I have them saved in other ways. I want the warning to quit from being out of storage after deleting my entire google drive. This has been going on with Google and I for about 6 months now and now there is yet more steps I have to waster time doing. Your video is great this rant isn't about you.
hello I did exactly as you did on your video however when I want to delete the photos on PC and I select them then I click on the trash icon to delete nothing simply happens (only this either with a single photo or 20) I really don't understand can you help me? Thanks
Thank you so much 🙏
It really works and helped me a lot ❤
Glad to hear that
Thanks for this video, I tried this method and it did work (deleted photos still stay in Apple Photos). BUT the deleted photos don’t show entirely in Google Photos gallery. In the video, the photos still show but just without the cloud icon (not backed up) 4:45 . On my device, the whole photo just doesn’t show entirely. Is there a way to unback up a photo but while the photo still shows in the Google Photos gallery? Pls help, thanks 😭🙏🏻
Thank You so Much brother. Great video MAN.
Glad it helped

Thanks. My issue is I use gallery and made albums in there. But I notice MANY OF MY PHOTOS DISSAPPEAR from albums after a while. Does Google photos pull them out so I HAVE TO GO TO GOOGLE PHOTOS TO SEE THEM.?? ITS NOT A STORAGE ISSUE, I HAVE ROOM BUT IT GEYS ME MAD BECSUSE THEY DISSAPEAR FROM GALLERY ALBUMS.
You are the best!!❤
My problem has ben solved thanks!
Hi if I turn off back up. But than turn it back on say in 6 months time will all photos taking on my phone in that time period automatically back up to the Google photos again? Could I just manually back up the photos I want to back up and keep ? Thanks for help
Absolute gigachad, thanks
Your video was very helpful. However when I try to delete some photos from Google Photos on my Apple iPhone I get a message that states “if deleted, they will also be deleted on the Apple iCloud. How do I prevent this? My goal is to have only some photos from my iPhone on Google Photo.

thank you so much , you save my day
You're welcome!
I have a doubt after deleting the items on PC "by turning of the backup" button, do they get removed from device when we turn backup option back on again on mobile?
Good question. When you say deleting the items from PC, do you mean from Google Photos on the PC? You have to turn off the backup in order to prevent the same photos from deleting from other devices, particularly the device were the original photos are saved. Then, after turning back ON the backup from the device where the original photos are saved, then those photos would be again backed up & get uploaded to the cloud.
why i can not see the cloud icon (while i have backed up manually) , can anybody help
Thank you for that bro. But I want to delete some of my "view all". photos and videos, but I do not know how to delete it. When I press some of those photos or videos, there is no trash icon. How can I delete it?
