    That wing just didn't want to land and took you along for the ride. Nice flying.

      Thank you. The air sure was buoyant.

    Hello Jonathan. This video answers a question what I had for many years: "What happens if you overshot at Andrew Jackson Airpark! Good job at the end.

    Great job on both landings. You had some unplanned lift on that first one, but you didn't freak out, kept your cool and did the best anyone could do. Except of course the best flare of the year guy. LOL

    You sure make some interesting decisions.

      Imagine what I could do in the left seat of an empty ERJ-175 with a partial fuel load? Sneak me on when nobody's any the wiser and we'll explore the possibilities.
      There's a reason I dropped out of ground school in 1976.

    You are a surprising man Jonathan ;-) Didn't expect you to overshoot a LZ. Glad you pulled it off :-) Nice video.

      Thanks Jan. I cut that first base leg turn too soon and got stuck. Just as well since it sows how easy the S3 170 is to fly and land.

      Yeas. I should have deployed the drag chute. I must not have been thinking.

    How does Sport 3 170 compared to U2 160?

    • @SoarSoCal
      @SoarSoCal  2 роки тому

      U2-160 is much higher performance but is much heavier and the control frame is 3" taller. Both good gliders but for different kinds of flying and pilots.

      @@SoarSoCal I ended up buying a dacron S3 170 for powered flying. Agree with you, the performance is much less than my U2 145. I think it is due to less tension in the sail and more washout. However, the handling is really enjoyable and it is very forgiving especially with the VG off. I had a chance to check U2 160 on the ground and found out the control frame too big and the glider much harder to ground handle. Thank you for the feedback.

      @@nice2care I apologize for the looooong delay in replying. I rarely check on this channel. The U2-160 is an advanced-intermediate wing while the S3-170 is a novice-intermediate wing based on my experience and opinion. Some of the best flights I've ever had were on the venerable old Sport 2-155 with soft Dacron sail. Best to have different gliders for different moods and conditions if you have the option.
