And if by chance you tell him the truth, your friend needs to see a psychiatrist because nobody is going to do anything because he put a flag up I have never looked at a flag and said oh you must be Republican where do you live because maybe you should think about moving your friend out of the Republican Warzone he lives in. When I fly a flag, I fly it with respect. I don’t wear it on a T-shirt or a hat. I don’t alter the color to suit my cause. I don’t display it in a half hazard way in my yard so it blows over and hits the ground. I don’t wrap myself up in it or wave it in other peoples faces. It seems to me that the people screaming about patriotism are the ones doing these things. They don’t see that the irony is they are actually desecrating the flag.

People get so uncomfortably weird about the flag. I remember as a kid not standing for the pledge so I could finish my homework and the substitute teacher lost her mind screaming at me. Apparently I was giving a big FU to her veteran husband. My uncle genuinely stopped watching the NFL during Kapernicks protest because it was an insult to his dead veteran nephew. It’s great to have pride for our military but like maybe understand that the flag represents the state. People don’t need to practice unwavering obedience to it. Maybe cherish the lives of our servicemen more by challenging the state to be its best and continue to earn our respect. Republicans trying to make themselves out to be more inherently patriotic by using the flag in pins etc is weird. It discourages critical thinking.
I’m not disagreeing that people can act irrationally when it comes to the flag, but it’s worth noting that not all people view the flag as representing the state. I view the flag as representing the people, and associate the Great Seal more with the state/government. Again, this obviously just comes down to interpretation. I’m sorry someone yelled at you though, that’s not cool. 😕
Great story. I'm sure Sheldon Cooper would be proud and if "The Big Bang Theory" were still on the air, Sheldon and Amy would most likely highlight this story on their podcast, "Fun with Flags." 🙂
I consider myself an amateur vexillologist, and have always loved flags. Although I’m not registered with either major political party because I like to be open-minded, I’m VERY largely a Democrat. It’s really bothered me for about the last 10 years or so that Republicans have seemingly acted like our flag is exclusive to them. I don’t believe that at all, but I still find myself wanting to put my flag up less, for fear of people thinking that I’m part of that group. But additionally, I don’t like disrespect of our flag. When I was growing up, I learned about respect of our flag both in elementary school and in the Boy Scouts. Things like how to fold it, only displaying it at night if it has a dedicated light on it, not keeping it up in inclement weather, replacing it if it is too faded or ripped, and putting it up respectfully at dawn and taking it down at dusk. I don’t see hardly anyone doing this anymore. Everywhere I got it is left up permanently 24/7, in bad weather, ripped, unrecognizable faded, and caught on nearby objects as if that is patriotic. While I may agree with that at a military installation during a siege at war, I absolutely do not at residential homes or in times of peace. Also, I don’t like seeing what I see as abuse of our flag, with it being plastered on every piece of clothing and other objects that are not flags. It looks trashy and UN-patriotic to me. But if you tell those doing that these thoughts you’re labeled as un-American. Which couldn’t be less of the case. In my subdivision as well, my HOA started displaying military flags permanently at each of our 3 entrances, under the American flag. I respect our troops a lot, but my subdivision is not a military installation. Many times I don’t even see these flags our side of ACTUAL military installations, much less a residential subdivision. It’s just…odd, and slightly militant. This is fine on days like Veteran’s Day or Memorial Day. Very appropriate. But permanently?? I just wish people could learn the rules, be respectful, and less extreme.
Right? Agreed. What I learned about flag etiquette in the girl scouts stayed with me these many years and to see people wearing it as undergarments is just...wrong.
I am a 58 yr old black American male who has been a republican and a democrat. I agree that the symbol of the American flag has been usurped by the Republicans, as if they are the only ones who love their country. I turned my flag into the thrift store on November 9, 2016. I love my country, but I can be disappointed with its citizens. I want to take back our flag and have it once again represent ALL American citizens. Perhaps I will put a Harris Walz sign in my yard and fly the flag at the same time.

For people in other countries, we find baffling how the American flag can become boxers or bikinis or have other colors. It is against the law to tamper with a national symbol in other places.

Vote policies and record not gender and race, dems have done enough
2:00 what a stupid question. Why would you wear jersey to a stadium full of fans?
"And at the house of a supreme court justice" Bwahahahahahahaha Mustache twirl....CBS is so ridiculous
I believe the survey was wrong
I used to look forward to watching CBS Sunday morning as it was mostly "good news." This entire show today was not enjoyable at all. I'm dissatisfied hearing all that is wrong in our society. For Sunday Morning, go back to reporting "good news" stories and leave this content for the nightly news!

@@sukn7091 He loves the flag even more than your candidate does. She's more into the Rainbow 1.
@@adiesel30 beenadick donald hides behind the Flag! He has NEVER stood in front and defended Her! EVER!! Using it when he needs it's protection, so he can destroy all it REALLY stands for!
@@adiesel30 but she hasn’t put her face on the American flag and therein lies the difference.

People are afraid to fly the flag? Give me a break bro, that’s a lie.
Ted can barely talk...
Ted is 84 and can speak in complete sentences, which is better than Trump, at 78, who is incoherent and rambles about nothing except sharks, electricity, and Hannibal Lector.
Old gizzards refusing to let the young ones in. This dude is almost 90 and there is su much young talent out there, but noooooo...
