Playing through Elden Ring made me want to explore the Dark Souls universe and I found myself here. I truly appreciate the thorough and clear information presented here. The professional delivery without the use of memes, insults, cursing, and sarcasm is a major benefit as well. Glad to see your channel is still active 9 years later.
BigDippas I just watched his BB vid before this one, I didn't think it was a white dude. Would kill to listen to him read lord of the rings trilogy. :P
fireburn95rs The funny thing is, I came to the comment section to see if anyone commented on his voice, and here I found your comment at the top of the list.
I was about 10 seconds away from returning this to the store. After spending 4+ hours banging my head up against a digital wall last night, luckily I stumbled on this video today. I knew there was something great in this game I just had to get past the dangerously frustrating learning curve. After sitting through your video it all just clicked. Thanks for helping me find the greatness.
+VaatiVidya It really is an incredible series. God I missed the feeling of chucking my controller across the room in a fit of rage XD Haven't felt like that since the first three ninja gaiden games for the NES!
+footthumb This is one of those games that don't get harder as you play, they get easier, because you will become really good and nothing will be able to stop you!
I was in the same exact shoes you were back with dark souls 1....but my best friend MADE me sit and learn the game.... It's unbelievable the amount of people that pass this game up because of the learning curve.... Their really is no game that gives you the sense of accomplishment and joy from overcoming those hard battles like this game.
+footthumb Yeah, that learning curve is dangerously steep, pretty much vertical, especially to those who got used to bloodborne and basically forget how to play dank souls (like me). What helped me is making a junk character to get through a small portion of the game, only going through the required parts to get myself used it, then going back and making my real character so I don't screw up my build. I'm on my 3rd build in bloodborne, because after trying all the different stuff with a junk character at the beginning, it all clicked and I'm killing bosses without thinking about it. Patience is the way of the Force
I was gonna attempt a no death run for my first experience with the series, but I got a really rude awakening. My first death was falling off a cliff in the tutorial area. And you know what the worst part about it was? I wasn't even fighting anything.
I have tried many times, furthest i have gotten is Velstadt, well wasn't killed by him, but the mobs in the chamber before him, on my way back out haha
***** I personally used to always die at shrine of amana, but I recently made it past without dying (though sadly on a character that wasn't a no death run D:)
I chose the deprived as starting class. been in for 20 hours now and it feels amazing to see how much progress you made from nothing. in my case, the most satisfying class!
The best class for both dark souls 1 and 2 is the deprived class mostly because it has the most evenly balanced starting stats and can really become anything you can imagine. Plus starting with barely any equipment makes it more fun because every piece of equipment you find you end up wearing even if its crappy zombie armor. Makes the character building feeling more progressive imo.
DoomDogDan666 There is a downside to deprived though. If for example you do not want any points in faith, then in my opinioin it is better to be a knight that has low faith and more strength which if i was a strength char that would help me a lot more and not have any points wasted on an unneeded stat. :)
Raistling Majaere There's no such thing as an unneeded stat. Sure, FTH and INT aren't necessary for physical builds, but you still need them to improve resistance stats not affected by ADP. By the time you reach lv250+, solely focusing on a physical build makes you vulnerable to certain playstyles, so it's best to be versatile at this point. Also, the Deprived is arguably the best class because of two facts. It's balanced and you start at Soul Level 1. Gaining 11 more levels and adding them to STR and DEX, a lv12 Deprived can easily catch up to the stats of Warrior (starts at lv12) and have higher values in certain stats. The same goes for the other classes. Choosing Deprived allows you to become a balanced version of the other starting classes.
***** You do know that with patch 1.10, enemies will now follow you through the fog gate, right? Also I favor the deprived because it gives me a clean slate and equal start on all stats. Having nothing to equip isn't much of a disadvantage at all because you can find some lying around. Therein lies the challenge. But the way you put it makes the class sound desperate and crude.
Beginners tips: 1. You don't have to lock on, in fact deciding not to lock on can trivialize the challenge of many enemies. Those enemies with slow tracking overhead attacks can be consistently avoided by walking in a tight circle around them. This is usually also better for fighting multiple enemies at once in terms of aiming your character to maximize the amount of enemies that get hit by horizontal slashing attacks. 2. With most enemies and bosses there is a basic formula for success that reduces the enemy down to 2 fundamental states and your behavior during those states. In either state, pick one of 3 available actions: A) Enemy attacking: - roll - block - walk/run out of their range B) Enemy cooling down after attack: - attack them - heal - use item These actions are specific reactions to the enemy state and so, if you try to use the actions for B while the enemy is in the state of A (e.g. attacking while enemy is attacking) you aren't going to have much success and will probably trade damage at best which is not conduciveto long term survival and skill gain. Likewise if you use the actions for A while the enemy is in the state of B because you are freaking out and mashing buttons, you will waste stamina that you need for when the enemy is returned to the A state.
+VaatiVidya After 1 year... One year I watch your channel... And I've always heard just your voice... And I was imaginating, how do you look like? And my imagination was right. Just judging by your awesome voice and way how you speak, I just knew you are a nice guy! I just wanted to tell you. Your channel means a lot to me! I was looking for some quality Bloodborne gameplay, but all the others didn't even care 'bout story and characters, and when I came here, it was like heaven. All little details, all of it was just so well done! I don't know how to thank you... Just keep doing what you do. I'm super hyped about all the stories which exist in DS3 and so on! Thanx man... Really... thank you... YOU kindled my flame. Love your job!
Dark souls community - Day 1 Online instruction guide/video to help players out worldwide with any questions they might be having... Like seriously... Just the fact you guys made this video proves the souls games has such an amazing community :D I'm iffy about spoilers since I'm waiting for EU release but damn... I'm so hyped :')
This is your best video yet Vaati. I cringed a bit when I saw the 40 minute timer. One of the things I love about your videos is that you get right to the point and don't needlessly waste my time. I was pleasently surprised to find that all 40 minutes is full of useful info and you even have a super handy index of topics right at the front. You deserve to be compensated for this as it was just excellent. Keep it up!!
"You can see the enemy's bloodstone to witness the 10 seconds before they died(*shows some player running off cliff*). "And perhaps avoid the same Traps they fell into".. Yessir.
I understand how alot of people did that in Dark Souls 1 at Firelink Shrine just to troll but there's now a serious death penalty in Dark Souls 2 yet when I first got to Majula there were like almost 10 bloodstains I found of people jumping off of cliffs lmfao
I've only played for about 6-7 hours yet, but I have to say that the combat is very similar to the combat in one of my favourite games, Monster Hunter. (In fact it's the closest I've ever seen to Monster Hunter, without actually being so.) Challenging but skill based, focusing more on mobility and timing than weapon stats or intricate button combos and certainly not button mashing. Realistic speed on weaponry too, huge things feel huge to swing in both speed and impact. All in all it feels really great to play. 3 hours in I complained that an enemy was too hard and put it down, but half an hour later I picked it back up, died another 2 times, then finally got the timing down to beat it, and could probably do it again.
I just bought DS2 out of peer pressure, I'm a pretty casual gamer but I was like "why not? how hard can it be" 3 hours later* "FUCK THIS GAME, I JUST DIED 6 TIMES TO A COUPLE OF ARMADILLO LOOKING SHITS IN MAJULA FUCK THIS SHIT. SPEND 2 HOURS MAKING THE PERFECT CHARACTER AND NOW I LOOK LIKE THIS FUCKING ZOMBIE ASS BITCH" FUCK.
I should add an important tip about restoring humanity: successfully helping another player to defeat a boss will restore your humanity. I hardly ever use effigies anymore, just pop a sign next to a boss, help the guy out, become human and carry on.
The hardest areal in Dark Souls 2 is the Valley of Spoilers....Do you know it? It lasts only from today to the 25. and is limited for PC-Players. Its so challenging... Already hate it.
People say Vaati looks like Ryan Gosling. People say ENB looks like Ashton Kutcher. Every Dark Souls channel has a celebrity persona. I wonder who people say I look like >_>.
Digital Intent Watch his really early videos. He looks like the Ashton Kutcher from Two and a Half Men in my opinion. It's the hair, eye color and face shape that do it I think.
I really love your videos VaatiVidya! Even though I know enough about the games, I always get a better "insight" of the whole thing. You're one of the best veterans in the community. Of course also big kudos to TheJunglist!
Someone went out of their way to help out all of us people who are un-willing to admit to being noobs. Thankyou Vaati and Junglist for making the most awesome in-depth DK2 vid on the net. ^-^
There is something especially nostalgic for me about this video... Every time I watch it I remember the excitement I felt for everything about these games. It wasn't just a hard game cause hard game, it was a true dark fantasy. The moves didn't just feel sluggish to feel sluggish, it felt rooted and immersed you in the world and your place in it. It's like how Metroid players didn't like the vibe of Other M, if you wanna be flashy, you really gotta earn it. Only recently picked up Elden Ring (150 hours now) and can't wait to be at the point where I start checking out your videos.
That's so much for this guide. I bought Dark Souls 2 a week ago and I was not prepared. I haven't played a game this hard for a long time, and this video was great for getting up to speed quickly!
Thanks so much for this guide. I never played Dark Souls 1 , so I was COMPLETELY lost. It's weird that a game this deep and complicated gives you NO guidance whatsoever. I guess that's kind of the point though. This was extremely informative and helpful. Much appreciated!!!
I watched the whole video and came out feeling as if I had played the game before but yet not feeling like I know anything extra then I should, no spoilers and nothing is ruined if you watch this video, it sorta tells you what any normal game would in a game manual but being dark souls nothing is as easy as reading a book to learn everything. Glad you have made some videos like this they help, getting the game tomorrow as I live in Australia be get the game on the 13th sorta sucks but if I get stuck to the point im giving up I can look for some help with relative ease.
Cody Schintler I herd you like Mudkips.... (Sorry) but yer that would suck... probably could buy the game on console and beat it in that time, save the pc version for other playthroughs and mods.
likeajon It got better graphics. So it is not the same. Also they might have made the PC controls a lot better this time around. Time to be optimistic.
Thanks for a truly great video guys! Good production value, clearly presented information and useful tips. You managed to keep it spoiler free for those of us who just need a few hints and a bit of tactics talk and made the video neatly focused with the help of a sensible Table of Content in the beginning. Awesome stuff! As to the people disliking this video because "noobs should learn on their own"; I feel you haven't fully understood that people are different. I think the important part is to get players to appreciate DS2, how they get there is irrelevant. :)
Dude, you have no idea how long I stared and stared at the bonfire, stewing in the pits of hopelessness and going Hollow. Great intro, I'll pick up my sword and try again.
"this video is not monetised!" that's how you know someone fucking cares about his subs. We are more than glad to give you money Vaati, there was no need xD
i started with ds2 and not with ds1 and this video helped me alot,i always got killed over and over and over again but after watching this i became better, thank you !
ZeWolfie McWolf You never know, maybe they put a DRM on it? I would hate that but it would def stop 99.9% hackers, regardless the online aspect of dark souls isn't what I care about. Mods however! I do care about.
Veinq me too! I still don't know f I want to keep it. The game is stupidly ridiculously hard. That being said, I still think its a good game. I do still like it.
Its a great game, but I will say SOTFS has enemy placements that make it much more difficult than the original. I would recommend a strength build first time through. It helps you learn patterns and kill most enemies very quickly.
I hope Dark Souls II has a character like Artorias. Artorias was easily the most badass character in Dark Souls, and he inspired so many of my drawings and stuff. They need to have another Artorias, if not in the vanilla then in a DLC. Plz from, plz.
I hate that you have to put it out there that this isn't monetized. Why does anyone care? What you do is your business, and you don't have to make these videos for people. Which by the way, your videos are awesome.
I don't have to put it out there! I did it as a courtesy to my co-host since he worked hard on this, even though it was commissioned by Namco AU. I don't think I should profit off it, and i'm letting you all know. Thanks for your support though :)
I love that set of armor behind the guy with the old raggy t-shirt (looking good Vaati)! Is that the statue that comes with the Collector's Edition? I had no idea it was that big! That's worth $119.00 for sure! ~
Ah no, the figurine is about 12 inches in height. I got it myself. Hahah, would be awesome though. Have the Warrior greet visitors (invaders) as they enter your home.
I would love to have that! So cool! Hey, it seems like they shut the comments off for this video. If you get this, could you check if YOU can see comments and get back to me? Thanks! Praise The Sun!!!
Wow, great to see ya Junglist! It's been ages since I last saw ya on Good Game on ABC. And for those complaining, I know a lot of friends who gave up and have not returned to DS\DS2 in the first 30 min of the game because of no proper tutorial and the unforgiving nature of this game. I'm not new to DS since I've played Demon Souls and the 1st DS on PS3, now got this on PC and it's freaking awesome. I highly recommend playing with a Xbox 360 controller or any other gamepad google a tool to rebind buttons. This guide is good for those who are intimidated by challenging but fair games, one that doesn't hold your hand all the way til the credits roll. This gives them a clue whats going on because DS series ain't known to be very informative at all. Great guide guys keep it up!
Hey, this is just my opinion, and you are free to disagree with me, but if you go into DS2 without even understanding how HEALTH BARS work in games, then MAYBE this isn't the game for you..?
Amazing video and very useful to a new DS player like myself with limited spoilers but the information I needed to know to see how I wanted to play this game with my own playstyle.
There are still things unclear about pyromacy. Do you still upgrade it like Dark Souls or was that replaced by it scaling with int and faith now? And does pyromacy scale of faith and int at the same time or does it's damage increase based on which of these stats you have invested most into?
The flame can be upgraded, but it requires a certain item (1 of them each time). The Int and Faith upgrade the damage together, and the attunement upgrades the casting speed of the pyromancies. There's also a Dark Pyromancy Flame, which is a pyro glove that grows stronger as you become more hollow. This can also be upgraded, just like a normal flame. That's all I can say about pyromancy, however, as I don't use it myself. Have fun in Dranglaic, and praise the sun. \[T]/
Thank you very much for the info good sir! BOTH faith and int scaling + glove upgrade, wow! I can imagine pyromancey spells will have the highest damage output in the game compared to mircales and sorcery that only have one stat to scale off.
Yasser Bostan Seriously, anyone who uses any of those terms in a non sarcastic way is probably a complete loser, but I have yet to see anyone. Are you sure you weren't a victim of poe's law?
likeajon Ya you do, you can just be invaded when you're hollow, can't summon. Think you can still have a blue come to the rescue but I don't think that's what he meant lol
Efreeti no. 70 is over 60. Any number over 60 is, infact, over 60 I fear for the future of whatever country you are from if they are teaching children that 70 is less than 60.
Thank you very much for your guide, which is informative, highly relevant, useful not to mention concise and extremely professional. Add into the mix devoid of ads, a superb starting guide all round.
I just started playing Dark Souls 2 and thanks a lot for this video I've been kinda struggling with the swordsman and i think i mest up the stats is the Sorcerer class easier for beginners because of the magic and range?
Also, messing up the stats isn't that horrible, a few times you can find an item called the "Soul Vessel". With it you can completely respec all your points at the witches at the start.
I'm probably too late, but play whatever you want. If you're struggling against trash mobs, try progressing slower so you don't engage multiple enemies at once. Or find other areas as you may be going to the "higher level" ones. Against bosses, just keep dying... LOL. I'm not trolling. Just keep trying, but watch and learn their moves and how to counter them so you get better at beating them each try. Also, contrary to what the video says, rolling uses less stamina than blocking when done right. You also recover faster than blocking, allowing you to attack that fraction of a second sooner. You just need to know where and when to roll. My advise is to avoid attacks by normal movements wherever possible, dodge roll when you can, block when all else fails. (Personally, I don't carry any shield because I'm too impatient to play defensively). Last but not least, try sprinting with no target lock during boss fights. You'd be surprised how effective this is for avoiding boss attacks =]
This Dodge is confusing the shit out of me. I get if my timing is off, CLEARLY I'd be hit and my character will show that,he'd flinch, fall etc. but sometimes I'd be fighting a boss, I'd dodge and would not flinch but still lose HP...then Me and the Boss act like that didn't happen,There is NO indication whatever ever that blow landed. It's weird.
If it's like the boss barely nicked you then it wouldn't cause you to flinch, but would still do damage, it's intentional and gives layers of consequences depending on the timing of your dodge. Way too slow, take damage and full on flinch or knocked away depending on the attack, a little to slow take damage a minor flinch though you can still get knocked back if it's a powerful strike that hits you. Just barely too slow no flinch, but still take damage. If you think about it, it makes sense, your foot or w/e that got barely nicked would still get hurt though wouldn't affect your momentum enough to screw up your dodge roll though arguably the damage received isn't scaled compared to how close you were to perfectly dodging the attack.
Marcus Smith One could argue that, but honestly it feels like a CSLN/hitbox error, just like with Dark Souls 1 backstabbing, your Hitbox would remain there much longer than need be, thus you getting sucked into a backstab animation even if your character is rolling away. when a boss is smashing his GIANT HALBERD upon you, there is no "nicked" my character would faceplant instantly, when I dodge to late/early, but when I get a clean dodge and still lose massive HP, doesn't add up. and EVERY boss attack so far will make you flinch for sure regardless of how it tipped you or not I think it's an honest error, but least I'm not the only one. oh well.
That's what's generally referred to as "hyper armour" in games. An action you take has a few frames where you will still take full damage, but the action cannot be interrupted during those frames.
Yea I Know what Super Armor is, Dark Souls 1 equivalent was the poise I guess, you may get hit with an attack & not flinch and still attack yourself. But in 2,1st off I don't have any poise yet =/ ...I wish I could show you, My friends were watching me play and they were confused about,I'd roll to the left or right to avoid a Horizontal smash attack from a boss, It would look like I'd get away scott free then, my hp goes away. but some people say just raise adaptability up.,which you can't go wrong with, but kind of messed up needing that for the dodge to work, as it did previously.
xKingx16 The game just came out, it was a buggy nightmare when DS1 came out on console, now I don't think the "it was just released, excuse any and all existing bugs" logic always adds up, the state of BF4 on release and even now is inexcusable and borderline illegal since they released a game clearly still in Beta and labelled it and charged it as if it was in retail quality, luckily EA is getting sued by Sony and I think two other huge companies so I hope that'll teach em' this shit has to stop. But I digress, DS2 seems to run better than it's predecessor on release and I doubt the first patch wouldn't fix the issues you're having.
one thing i hate in DS2 is the dialogue. Theres like 5 seconds pause between lines and i constantly have to press A to skip the out-of-place silence after each line.
oh no you actually have to listen to the stuff the npc's says. this is a game that diesnt play after your rules, this should be a common fact by now. (and yes that includes these little elements. if you see a making of you'll see how much they cared about these details. every change to dark souls is wanted) they wouldnt have changed it if they didnt intended to piss evryone of :^)
Abhishek Valsangkar holy shit what the hell o.o sorry then to both of you that i fucked up D: I personally like the pauses, gives a bit of a storytelling feeling
I just want you to know that even as an experienced player this video helped me a lot. And that I often have it playing in the back ground while I play for motivation thank you for making this great guide.
Dark souls 1 was a consol game ported to PC. Dark souls 2 is a PC game ported to consol. The footage you see in this video is the consol version of Dark souls 2 and thus the game's graphical level is lower that what you have seen. The reason why the trailer footage looked better graphically is because that was the PC version of the game. Even thou the game was made to be played on PC it will come out later because the dark souls 1 port and launch on the PC was a disaster which probably hurt their sales and reputation. They don't want to make the same mistake again. They are currently working on the PC launch being smooth and problem free.
It's possible that they want to money grab but ultimateley it is all in the hands of the players whether to reward such business practices or not. By being patient for the PC version you don't and by giving in you do. Speak with your wallet, it's the only language they understand.
Luka Zaric money grabbing? it was already finished for the consoles. Why wait then? nothing will be added during this time for the consoles, but the pc still needs some fixes. Probably compadability for some graphicscards and such. Where is the "money grabbing" part about it? I will buy the PC version myself and I feel sad that I can't play it already. But hey, I'd rather have a good PC version done right from the start, then port it because of lack of time put into it.
TheArtificialGaming think about it this way 360 and ps3 has the biggest install base where as PS4 and X1 has probably somewhere around 10mill together. Now if you were a business where would you put all your time and effort in? not to mention since PS4 and X1 are just really shitty PCs they will more than likely get a port of the PC version somewhere down the line.
I think you should seek the opinion of someone who likes both skyrim and dark souls and not someone who hates either like this guy ^^. This game is basically a hardcore "old-time" rpg with little in-your-face story. You have to seek out the lore and story behind characters and areas. Its not given to you a whole lot. Its game marketed to a certain crowd.
It's basically just fighting. You obviously have a general quest that you are on, but for a story you have to piece it together on your own through item descriptions and conversations with NPCs.
You can't really compare the two in the same category. Not because one is better than the other but because they are both so different. I've loved the elder scrolls since I first picked up Morrowind on its release date (too young for the previous titles and can't find a port) and I've been a fan of the Souls series since I picked up DS1 some time about a year ago. I'm now playing DS2 and loving it. Yes you can create a character in DS2 and choose a class, Yes there is a main quest, test NPCs give you small quests and reward you for competing them and Yes you level up and increase your attributes but its just not the same game. It has all the elements of an RPG but it doesn't hold your hand, theres no compass telling you where to go, if you die (or get you health back at a checkpoint) all your enemies come back to life too and you can't save. If you make a mistake you life with it and keep going and you fail and fail and fail again until you succeed, and how sweet that final success really is. In short, I love the souls series because it challenges me but you can't compare it with other titles because it just isn't the same. You'll have to play it a bit to know what I'm talking about but stick it out for the first few hours and tackle the (steep) learning curve and I promise you'll love it.
Dark souls is a little bit more like old school castle vania games than it is anything like skyrim. Aside from that. The souls series is hardcore and punishing, with very deep mechanics and combat. The story on the surface is practically nonexistent, however it is told so cryptically, that it is actually very intense with a lot of depth and lore. The original attempted to spark a feeling of reading a fantasy story in another language. Some stuff you understand, but it is largely left for you to piece together as it is lost in translation. Try this game if you want to test your patience. It actually is what taught me to be more patient with people and life in general. I chilled out a lot after playing the souls games.
Holy shit, you did not look like I expected.
That voice + those looks = Give us other guys a chance!
+MrCatchTwenty2 I agree. He looks at least fifteen years younger than that voice.
+MrCatchTwenty2
dat neck.
Giraffe meta
+No thanks Nasty :(
Reminds me of when Benedict Cumberpatch first got popular
MrCatchTwenty2 oh my god right??
Playing through Elden Ring made me want to explore the Dark Souls universe and I found myself here. I truly appreciate the thorough and clear information presented here. The professional delivery without the use of memes, insults, cursing, and sarcasm is a major benefit as well. Glad to see your channel is still active 9 years later.
Vaatis voice is so soothing
Right dude. Imagine him reading a book to you haha no homo but it would be epic.
BigDippas I just watched his BB vid before this one, I didn't think it was a white dude. Would kill to listen to him read lord of the rings trilogy. :P
BigDippas 😂😂😂😂
fireburn95rs The funny thing is, I came to the comment section to see if anyone commented on his voice, and here I found your comment at the top of the list.
Maximum 90 hehe it's so fucking unhuman. That should be the new siri/cortana voice
This is exactly what we wanted to achieve with this video. Glad it had that effect man, enjoy this incredible game.
Lmao i wish i could see that
Gravity is always the worst enemy. You fight it every second in DS I and II
Happend to me too and it's so awkward because I achieved the "die for your first time" achievement before anything else :(
I have tried many times, furthest i have gotten is Velstadt, well wasn't killed by him, but the mobs in the chamber before him, on my way back out haha
***** I personally used to always die at shrine of amana, but I recently made it past without dying (though sadly on a character that wasn't a no death run D:)
Total breakdown and all under 40 minutes. Best Dark Souls channel on UA-cam.
Vaati, you can totally replace Morgan Freeman when some movie needs a narration
true
No one can replace morgan freeman

I chose the deprived as starting class.
been in for 20 hours now and it feels amazing to see how much progress you made from nothing.
in my case, the most satisfying class!
but you get a headstart because you can choose whatever you want to be, all stats are 6 and you are level 1

WAT R U, CASUL?
vaaty was your body real? it felt like they put your face on a pre rendered body LOL
i know its been 5 years but DAMN youre right and its freaking me out :D
Lmfao it has to be fake
Its because of the black screen behind him. Its an illusion😂
It’s that casual v neck
He may have scoliosis
I have played demon souls and dark souls multiple times and I still sat all the way through this a really brilliant vid
You sound so much like me! You enjoy a challenge as do I.
DoomDogDan666
There is a downside to deprived though. If for example you do not want any points in faith, then in my opinioin it is better to be a knight that has low faith and more strength which if i was a strength char that would help me a lot more and not have any points wasted on an unneeded stat. :)

There's no such thing as an unneeded stat.
Choosing Deprived allows you to become a balanced version of the other starting classes.
jérôme Paupe Deprived FTW
*****
You do know that with patch 1.10, enemies will now follow you through the fog gate, right?
Also I favor the deprived because it gives me a clean slate and equal start on all stats. Having nothing to equip isn't much of a disadvantage at all because you can find some lying around. Therein lies the challenge. But the way you put it makes the class sound desperate and crude.
Beginners tips:
In either state, pick one of 3 available actions:
A) Enemy attacking:
- roll
- block
- walk/run out of their range
B) Enemy cooling down after attack:
- attack them
- heal
- use item
These actions are specific reactions to the enemy state and so, if you try to use the actions for B while the enemy is in the state of A (e.g. attacking while enemy is attacking) you aren't going to have much success and will probably trade damage at best which is not conduciveto long term survival and skill gain.
Likewise if you use the actions for A while the enemy is in the state of B because you are freaking out and mashing buttons, you will waste stamina that you need for when the enemy is returned to the A state.
Didn't expect the ending hahaha
We were filming for like 8 hours, there was a lot of pent up tension and relief behind that high 5!
+VaatiVidya thanks guyz that was alot of useful information's! you deserve more than 1 million likes!
+VaatiVidya Your so hot
That high five at the end made the video even more worth while to watch
Dark souls community - Day 1
Online instruction guide/video to help players out worldwide with any questions they might be having... Like seriously... Just the fact you guys made this video proves the souls games has such an amazing community :D I'm iffy about spoilers since I'm waiting for EU release but damn... I'm so hyped :')
Great vid as always, Vaati!
I think Vaati's voice is too deep for his body
That's because his sound box is in his balls...
I have to agree.
His voice is so deep and soothing I could probably sleep to it
I didn’t think he was white when I heard his voice. I can’t believe that’s what he looks like!
The Tom Cruise of the Dark Souls community 😁
This is your best video yet Vaati. I cringed a bit when I saw the 40 minute timer. One of the things I love about your videos is that you get right to the point and don't needlessly waste my time. I was pleasently surprised to find that all 40 minutes is full of useful info and you even have a super handy index of topics right at the front. You deserve to be compensated for this as it was just excellent. Keep it up!!
HOLY SHIT JUGNLIST!
i miss him from good game
will brooks holy shit i didn't even realist it was him.
"You can see the enemy's bloodstone to witness the 10 seconds before they died(*shows some player running off cliff*). "And perhaps avoid the same Traps they fell into".. Yessir.
You'd be surprised how easy it is to fall into that particular trap.
I understand how alot of people did that in Dark Souls 1 at Firelink Shrine just to troll but there's now a serious death penalty in Dark Souls 2 yet when I first got to Majula there were like almost 10 bloodstains I found of people jumping off of cliffs lmfao
lol, i guess along with the mobs, the Cliffs have been made deadlier too haha
Gravity is op, after all
Close your eyes and you'll hear Nick cage.
Lmaoooo
Bruh 😂😂
Hahaha omg I know this is super freakin’ old but I was thinking that exact same thing!
I've only played for about 6-7 hours yet, but I have to say that the combat is very similar to the combat in one of my favourite games, Monster Hunter. (In fact it's the closest I've ever seen to Monster Hunter, without actually being so.)
Challenging but skill based, focusing more on mobility and timing than weapon stats or intricate button combos and certainly not button mashing.
Nice guide, really helpful to review this playing Dark Souls 2 going into 2024.
I just bought DS2 out of peer pressure, I'm a pretty casual gamer but I was like "why not? how hard can it be"
3 hours later*
"FUCK THIS GAME, I JUST DIED 6 TIMES TO A COUPLE OF ARMADILLO LOOKING SHITS IN MAJULA FUCK THIS SHIT. SPEND 2 HOURS MAKING THE PERFECT CHARACTER AND NOW I LOOK LIKE THIS FUCKING ZOMBIE ASS BITCH" FUCK.
poor guy... did you bought the Prepare to Cry Edition?
JoeDirt PalomaTron probably since I've been crying ever since
lol keep playing...its really well worth it. And if worse comes worse, just grind some souls and level up your character/equipment a bit.
Andy Chen dks2 is the easiest in the series 2 mu hahahaha
Don't quit or you will go hollow...
I should add an important tip about restoring humanity: successfully helping another player to defeat a boss will restore your humanity. I hardly ever use effigies anymore, just pop a sign next to a boss, help the guy out, become human and carry on.
Or you can sit at the shrine
ian mccallum sure, but that only becomes usable near late-game, and you have to have used up all your effigies to be able to use it.
I know it's not ideal, but just in case someone didn't know :)
The hardest areal in Dark Souls 2 is the Valley of Spoilers....Do you know it? It lasts only from today to the 25. and is limited for PC-Players. Its so challenging... Already hate it.
i've already died hundreds of times
ninjack11 git gud
I know right the valley of spoilers is so difficult :(
i totaly agree ... :( they spoil n hype it to death .... makes me angry ...
im a bit worried right now ...
This.
People say Vaati looks like Ryan Gosling.
People say ENB looks like Ashton Kutcher.
Every Dark Souls channel has a celebrity persona. I wonder who people say I look like >_>.
Joseph Merrick
EvenFlow406 I suppose I walked right in that lol. Handsome fellow.
***** These are starting to get creative. I like it.
I always thought ENB looked like Eric Bana. Don't see Ashton Kutcher at all.
Wish I could watch this but it's not april the 25 yet!
I know, it's killing me... I could wait for GTA V, it's never really been a favourite series of mine, but this wait is brutal.
It's horrible, I don't wan't to spoil anything but everyone's posting videos of it and IT IS GOING TO GET WAY WORSE IN 2 DAYS
Too true.
That high 5 tough.
I Must resist the urge to watch any videos of dark souls 2, for two more days
i can't take this any longer!
Europe or other continent
There is something especially nostalgic for me about this video... Every time I watch it I remember the excitement I felt for everything about these games.
It wasn't just a hard game cause hard game, it was a true dark fantasy. The moves didn't just feel sluggish to feel sluggish, it felt rooted and immersed you in the world and your place in it. It's like how Metroid players didn't like the vibe of Other M, if you wanna be flashy, you really gotta earn it.
Only recently picked up Elden Ring (150 hours now) and can't wait to be at the point where I start checking out your videos.
The jumping high five and exclaimed "yeah!" at the end brought a smile to my face.
Yes, Vaati, I do feel unequipped. You seem well equipped, I need your help equipping me.
he is equipped with a lvl 2 T-Shirt, this is not well equipped, he needs a lvl 19 Lacoste Polo
SeriusVlad He needs to be shirtless....
Grand Faraway can I like that comment more than once
Vaati: *Narrates like a pro*
Me: "Don't be intimidated, try to imagine what he looks like in real life"
Vaati: *Shows face*
Me: "Oh no he's hooooot!"
I love this game more than I have ever loved a human being. Creepy.
That's so much for this guide. I bought Dark Souls 2 a week ago and I was not prepared. I haven't played a game this hard for a long time, and this video was great for getting up to speed quickly!
Love how you can skip to the part you want given at the start by the text! EXCELLENT advice too
This video is awesome and a HUGE help to me. Thank you for making it.
THE LEGEND NEVER DIES!
They really need to make a new Soul Calibur that doesn't suck :(
Also 2 more days! :O
dee4doa do you mean DARK soul calibur?
Very informative and professional. I see some community management in your future.
The Faraam set looks so cool.. I love it.. just so heavy
At least you don't have to wait another 6 weeks....
Cody Schintler I herd you like Mudkips.... (Sorry) but yer that would suck... probably could buy the game on console and beat it in that time, save the pc version for other playthroughs and mods.
first time seeing vaati's face for all the years of watching
I want to watch this so badly...but...must wait...for PC release.
Its the same only with mods you still want to use an controller
likeajon I bought a Dualshock 4 specifically for playing this game on PC.
likeajon It got better graphics. So it is not the same. Also they might have made the PC controls a lot better this time around. Time to be optimistic.
PinkBoomer LeeVondés They mentioned specifically that one of the reasons they're holding the game back is for mouse and keyboard controls, actually.
That high five was pretty funny. xD
"this video is not monetised!" that's how you know someone fucking cares about his subs.
We are more than glad to give you money Vaati, there was no need xD
Although this is true, this small detail shows why his channel is special and different from others.
Vaati... 20% neck
Must be dem goshdarn metal gears
metal gear...it can't be!
+Patriursus vaatis neck... The weapon to surpass metal gear
+Bob Johnson The neck explains the voice.
+Anthony Ynohtna ...and the voice explains the freak....
i started with ds2 and not with ds1 and this video helped me alot,i always got killed over and over and over again but after watching this i became better, thank you !
Thank you so much for the info on the guard break! I could not figure out how to get past those spear+shield dudes
After fighting that boss on the pirate ship, I went out and fell through the ground... twice... losing 30 000+ souls. Boy was I angry...
ZeWolfie McWolf You never know, maybe they put a DRM on it? I would hate that but it would def stop 99.9% hackers, regardless the online aspect of dark souls isn't what I care about. Mods however! I do care about.
Great video! Very useful as I begin my first play-through after the release of SOTFS :)
I'm in the same boat. Total noob xD
It helps you learn patterns and kill most enemies very quickly.
tangomike23 Thanks but I've already returned it. I'm now waiting for MKX :)
That grind eh? This game is SOOO FUCKING REWARDING!!
I hope Dark Souls II has a character like Artorias. Artorias was easily the most badass character in Dark Souls, and he inspired so many of my drawings and stuff. They need to have another Artorias, if not in the vanilla then in a DLC. Plz from, plz.
I think I saw his armor in the game somewhere. I know that Ornstein is in it as a boss again.
***** But without his once-friend Smough, Ornstein is an incredibly easy kill.
This game brought tears of joy to my eyes... then tears of anger 2 hours later.
love your videos!!
Guys, New to DS2 Sotfs straight after Bloodborne and this video has helped ALOT! Many Thanks!
I hate that you have to put it out there that this isn't monetized. Why does anyone care? What you do is your business, and you don't have to make these videos for people. Which by the way, your videos are awesome.
Uhm, its probably so that the video won't be taken down?
I don't have to put it out there! I did it as a courtesy to my co-host since he worked hard on this, even though it was commissioned by Namco AU. I don't think I should profit off it, and i'm letting you all know.
Thanks for your support though :)
Profit from whatever you like.. Just make sure you let people know when you're being payed :P
God this helped me immensly. Just got the game and trying to git gud
which version do you have cause I just started today and enjoy the parry/counter system. I am still terrible though lol
assasin8913 I'm on PS3, with the normal vanilla. I'm actually a pretty high level. But i'll try to help you out. What's your user name?
+Bigbossgiga EzioF-air
+assasin8913 I'm already at level 61 and trying to get past the lost basilisk (it's like a prison and has three golden bossesat once.
+Bigbossgiga Ill prob be on Friday though. Need to take a break after 20 hours of grinding and dying.
This video was really helpful for someone like me who was completely new to the series.
"leveling up your character is not nearly as importen as leveling up yourself" -translation: Git gud... Thanks a lot.
Damn Vaati, I never expected you to be hot like this
Hey, this is just my opinion, and you are free to disagree with me, but if you go into DS2 without even understanding how HEALTH BARS work in games, then MAYBE this isn't the game for you..?
I disagree!
+bibbisbibbis It's never too late to learn dude.
+bibbisbibbis Yeah, this game can only be played by the cool people, like you, right?
***** Whatevs kid.
+Lesley Wipes wtf bro psychological bullying men
Dat freeze-frame dou! XD Loving the walkthroughs, Vaati. Thanks for all the help!
Amazing video and very useful to a new DS player like myself with limited spoilers but the information I needed to know to see how I wanted to play this game with my own playstyle.
... Why didn't you monetize the video man ? you're putting time and effort in it and you should get what you deserve for your work.
I actually agree. They clearly put time and effort into this very informative video. They have every right to be paid for it.
TyronMakeka
Fyi, upgrading staves and chimes is the norm now. So it isn't that different from other types of magic.
the end was best!
This was extremely helpful. Thx very much, I just started my Darksouls career
This was done very well, I saw no "spoilers" that I haven't found out by now anyways :D Thanks for another great video! ^^
Damn I love this game, last bastion of hard games...
dark souls 2 is perfect
Fuckin Ryan Gosling plays Dark Souls 2
wtf seriously???
That ain't Ryan Gosling, that's his fucking younger Australian brother, Michael Gosling.
...
fitzgealec Hey mister gullible, he's talking about Vaati.
This channel is getting more and more awesome!
Nice ending vaati, and that knight in the background of u guys looks badass. I need to get me one of those.
Dark Souls 2: The Comprehensive Skrub's Guide
Yasser Bostan
You seriously think people are using scrub/git gud in a non sarcastic way?
Yasser Bostan
Seriously, anyone who uses any of those terms in a non sarcastic way is probably a complete loser, but I have yet to see anyone. Are you sure you weren't a victim of poe's law?
Yasser Bostan Terms such as: "See ya' later nerd!" are mostly said as jokes, they don't actually mean it. :P
Yasser Bostan :D
Yasser Bostan Yeah its all good fun mate. xD
Vati's neck is looong :)
true 0.0
hemir9 I was gonna say Ostrich, but Giraffe works too.
Oh wow, Vaati is both an adorable little guy _and_ that voice isn't modulated?
It isn't.
I know this video is ´´older´´ but i watched it completely and i gotta say thank you very much it helped me alot
Wow that suit of armor is really cool in the background
Vaati, where do you get that giant statue from!? ( Or if it's a print then you know... Please tell me :P)
Haha, it's a huuuuge statue they have in the Namco office! It looms over you..I want one.
VaatiVidya :o It's so amazing, I only have a small hand made Lautrec model I got for Christmas.
i really do hope that there is a way to farm human effigy otherwise jolly co operation is gonna be a bit tougher :/
You dont need human effegy to summon someone
likeajon probably just wants a full hp bar
likeajon didn't he just say in the video that you need to be in human form (not that ugly ass zombie form) to summon help.
likeajon Ya you do, you can just be invaded when you're hollow, can't summon. Think you can still have a blue come to the rescue but I don't think that's what he meant lol
Did they said you fatroll at over 60%? That's wrong, it's at over 70%.
was looking for that. well, I guess one or two mistakes are unavoidable if you do a video that has such a wide information range
Efreeti to be fair they are not wrong. 70 is higher than 60
LokasennaCole They are wrong, as "over 60" includes 61-69, where you DON'T fatroll.
Efreeti
no. 70 is over 60. Any number over 60 is, infact, over 60 I fear for the future of whatever country you are from if they are teaching children that 70 is less than 60.
LokasennaCole That is plainly and obviously not what I was saying.
Thank you very much for your guide, which is informative, highly relevant, useful not to mention concise and extremely professional. Add into the mix devoid of ads, a superb starting guide all round.
39:52 I dig the ending, pausing at the high five in the air while playing that ending music. Taken straight out of a 90s sitcom ending.
I just started playing Dark Souls 2 and thanks a lot for this video I've been kinda struggling with the swordsman and i think i mest up the stats is the Sorcerer class easier for beginners because of the magic and range?
Absolutely! I believe the Sorcerer class and Cleric are easiest.
Alright thank youu I started a sorcerer right after I posted that comment and so far I'm really liking the class (:
Also, messing up the stats isn't that horrible, a few times you can find an item called the "Soul Vessel". With it you can completely respec all your points at the witches at the start.
Yeah i just found out thanks dude^
Marcus Smith One could argue that,
but honestly it feels like a CSLN/hitbox error, just like with Dark Souls 1 backstabbing, your Hitbox would remain there much longer than need be, thus you getting sucked into a backstab animation even if your character is rolling away.
when a boss is smashing his GIANT HALBERD upon you, there is no "nicked" my character would faceplant instantly, when I dodge to late/early, but when I get a clean dodge and still lose massive HP, doesn't add up. and EVERY boss attack so far will make you flinch for sure regardless of how it tipped you or not
I think it's an honest error, but least I'm not the only one.
But in 2,1st off I don't have any poise yet =/
...I wish I could show you, My friends were watching me play and they were confused about,I'd roll to the left or right to avoid a Horizontal smash attack from a boss, It would look like I'd get away scott free then, my hp goes away.
but some people say just raise adaptability up.,which you can't go wrong with, but kind of messed up needing that for the dodge to work, as it did previously.
xKingx16 The game just came out, it was a buggy nightmare when DS1 came out on console, now I don't think the "it was just released, excuse any and all existing bugs" logic always adds up, the state of BF4 on release and even now is inexcusable and borderline illegal since they released a game clearly still in Beta and labelled it and charged it as if it was in retail quality, luckily EA is getting sued by Sony and I think two other huge companies so I hope that'll teach em' this shit has to stop.
(and yes that includes these little elements. if you see a making of you'll see how much they cared about these details. every change to dark souls is wanted) they wouldnt have changed it if they didnt intended to piss evryone of :^)
+Weisser Himmel You misread. he does listen to the dialogue, he just didn't like the awkward pauses in between. and I'm with him, I did the same.
Abhishek Valsangkar holy shit what the hell o.o sorry then to both of you that i fucked up D: I personally like the pauses, gives a bit of a storytelling feeling
This is the first video i ever watched when started playing souls game
But hey, I'd rather have a good PC version done right from the start, then port it because of lack of time put into it.
this game really need to be released to the new consoles to so they didn't have to limit the games potential really to the 360 and ps3
TheArtificialGaming
Sounds like you should just get the PC version.
I share the same first name as vaati my life is now awesome.
Same here ;)
I'm confused whether I should buy this game or not. Does this game only consist of fighting? Are there any quests? Is it better than Skyrim?
Yes
No
Anything thing is better than Skyrim (huge letdown of a game)
Vaati, you are my Dark Souls hero. I love how you can delve into the lore and bring so much depth to light. :)
Thank god, this is exactly the in-depth guide I was looking for.
