Description: History teaches us that hyper-Calvinism is as much a threat to true Calvinism as Arminianism is. Virtually every revival of true Calvinism since the Puritan era has been hijacked, crippled, or ultimately killed by hyper-Calvinist influences. Modern Calvinists would do well to be on guard against the influence of these deadly trends.
    A Primer on Hyper-Calvinism: www.romans45.org/articles/hype...
    Questions Asked:
    1. What were the biggest theological issues that Spurgeon had to face in
his time? Are we still fighting those battles?
If Spurgeon were alive today, what would he see as the greatest threats to
the purity of the evangelical church worldwide?
    2. What is the biggest threat facing the church today?
    3. What is the most pressing need of the church?
    4. What is a hyper-Calvinist?
What is the duty-faith controversy, and how was it resolved?
How do we, as committed Calvinists, avoid the hyper-Calvinist ditch?
    5. Would you describe an Arminian pastor as a false teacher? Where do
you draw the line between orthodoxy and heresy

Hyper-Calvinists are simply Calvinists who take Calvinist principles to their logical conclusion. Which doesn't mean they're right (I don't think they are), but that they are at least intellectually consistent.

False. Hyper-Calvinists are NOT consistent at all.
It's the result of not understanding how 'responsibility' is established.
It's also a failure to understand that the Gospel Proper is NEVER, EVER imperative (command).
      Rather, it is indicative.
The command to 'repent and believe the Gospel' is not the Gospel itself.
Yet, it's a universal command anyways, even to the reprobate...they are all commanded to believe the Gospel; but the command to believe it is not the Gospel itself.
      See the problems?

Im sorry, but this is ridiculous and blatant obfuscation - 5 types of hyper calvinism, alongside just standard calvinism..
This skirts around the issue and point, pointing at those hyper ones over yonder.. no, the hyper calvinist is just someone who doesn't deny the logical implications of the formula.
Election to salvation, as a belief, ordained and decreed by God, is the issue.
If you believe God sovereignly decrees who can come and who cannot come, then there it is.

I accept John's point that Calvinism leads invariably to hyper-Calvinism. Historically, he is is correct. But is this because of the fact that most Calvinists have been unwilling to follow Calvinism to it's logical conclusions? I think that is the point he is begging. I have concluded that if the Calvinists are right then the logic of the system will lead them to hyper-Calvinism, but most are unwilling to go that far. I appreciate this, but this of a testimony to the morality of these Calvinists who refuse to follow their teaching to their logical conclusions. At some point they realize that if I continue down this road I will be calling the goodness of God into question, and I cannot do this. But the principle of reductio ad absurdum is that if my logic leads to an absurd conclusion did not become absurd by following it to absurdity. It was absurd in the beginning and following the idea to its logical conclusion mere demonstrates its absurdity.

Amen... 🎯... No matter how it is 'massaged'...if Calvinism is correct... "Hyper-Calvinism" is inevitable. It's ugly... but cannot be avoided when honestly embracing the doctrine. The real "mystery" is how so many who embrace TULIP are unwilling to accept this fact. It's like trying to get my Beagle to look me in the eye. Whenever one is forced to defend the character of the God they worship from the claims of their own doctrine... they should probably reexamine their 'doctrine'... or the God it defines. These conversations always end the same way. "You just don't understand Calvinism"... even when faced with quotes from John Calvin himself... AND... misusing "Who are you to question God"... when it's really only Calvinism in question. Calvinists are not a monolithic bunch... but they are consistent in their inability to accept that anyone ever rejects Calvinism because they "DO" understand it.😎
No honest Calvinist can look themselves in the mirror and profess with confidence they are truly .. most certainly... positively "elect" as Calvinism defines it. Nobody can ever know for certain they will receive the necessary "Gift" of Grace which Augustine described as "P"erseverance on this side of the grassy knoll. There are many respected 'former' Calvinists who thought they were 'elect' only to fall away and even deny Christ... which is only possible within the confines of TULIP... by the unchangeable decree of God. After accepting God does this to some... no one can ever know for certain he has not planned to do it to you. Consequently, they are worshiping a God who cannot be trusted to 'truly ' love anybody. ... And THAT is exactly the proposition of the Serpent to Eve in the Garden... no coincidence, IMO.

There's a lot of confusion, here.
Definitions of terms are not given (eg. 'responsibility' and its proper prerequisite).
Another example, the PRC, because they deny the "3 Points of Common Grace" as outlined by the Synod of Kalamazoo (1924) does NOT make them "Hyper-Calvinists"!
There may be other issues that make them Hyper-Calvinists, but that ain't one of 'em.

I have noticed that high/hyper Calvinists and hypo-Calvinists (3-4 point where I would fall in) too tend to be sounder and more consistent in their affirmation of justification by faith alone than what has become mainline systematic Calvinism. This cuts into the Lordship/Free Grace debate with those who are Calvinist on the Free Grace side mostly being hypos or high/hypers.Seems to centre around preferring preservation to perseverance of the saints. Not many these days would follow the more mainline 5 point Calvinism of the Marrow Men that comes close to what hypos hold. The hypos are largely dispensational and the high/hypers covenantal.

How can a lecturer not know when "Hyper-Calvinism" became a term (33:10)? So, this lecturer is a non-expert, since the development of that terms is key to the development of Hyper-Calvinism. The answer to that is in a whole chapter later in Toon's book (The Emergence of Hyper-Calvinism, 2011, Wipf and Stock publishers). It's easy to reject Hyper-Calvinism if you focus on theologians (men), not Scripture (GOD), as this lecture does. But not if you read Scripture. Lectures like this only can be given if one ignores significant parts of Scripture (see my other comment).

Why don't you cite any verses to back up the anti-Hyper-Calvinist claims? Where are the verses that command sinners to believe? Mark 4.12 contradicts that, and is a pure Hyper-Calvinist verse. I was surprised how in your lecture, you talk a lot about theologians, but verses are not being quoted. The words of men are lies (Ps 116.11, Rom 3.4), so we need to rely on Scripture, not men, and Scripture is Hyper-Calvinist. Your lecture is Arminian, you place responsibility on humans (25:10), wherein GOD would not be all-powerful. Very simple. Only Hyper-Calvinism respects GOD's fully sovereignty. Free will is heresy and works-based Arminianism.

And He was saying to them, “To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but to those who are outside, everything comes in parables, so that while seeing, they may see and not perceive, and while hearing, they may hear and not understand, lest they return and be forgiven.” read.lsbible.org/?q=mark+4%3A11-12

Yes the Calvinist god is merciful by punishing by torture those he forced to commit the very sins he came up with! Good job Baucham Sproul, Calvin, MacArthur, Washer, Piper. No wonder millions flock to the merciful Calvin god!
The real God of Creation said this of His love for all man and the Created Universe.
Psalms 145:9 The Lord is good to ALL; he has compassion on ALL he has made.
Little different from the evil cruel god of calvinism isn't it?
The real Jesus said in John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
1 Timothy 2 : 3-6 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people.
Calvinist god followers say that their god blinds the eyes of the Non-elect so they cannot see or understand the gospel. Yet it is they who have been blinded by Satan. Satan has blinded the eyes of those who are perishing. Satan leads the whole World astray.
Nothing makes people hate God faster than Calvinism.
Nothing turns people into Atheists faster than Calvinism!
Nothing kills hope and love faster than Calvinism!
Yet they are wise in their own eyes and lost in their souls and hearts. They gather around themselves those who speak the same lie!
Wake up and turn to God who loves you . "Repent and be Baptized before your life is spent and there is no more hope for you!
This can be the day of your salvation.
    In Love!

Truth, you don’t understand. Man is blind by his own condition and rebellion. Be careful what you are attacking. The straw man tactics of your presentation, cause a false fight and argumentation over things that calvinists don’t actually believe.
To link calvinists with Satan is a wee bit extreme to say the least, I think it’s you sir that should repent and research the scriptures better.
I would suggest you read carefully through John’s Gospel. Lay aside your pre-conceived biases, and heed what Jesus is saying.

      @@brianroads3694 Hi Brian Hello.
Almost everything that I know was told or taught to me by Calvinists and John Calvins writings. So I don't know were the problems is.
John Calvin is the first source and after all he is the one Calvism is based on and elevated to the founder of it. So here is one of his published statements.
“thieves and murderers, and other evildoers, are instruments of divine providence, being employed by the Lord himself to execute judgments which he has resolved to inflict.” (John Calvin, Institutes of Christian Religion, Book 1, Chapter 17, Paragraph 5)
“The devil, and the whole train of the ungodly, are in all directions, held in by the hand of God as with a bridle, so that they can neither conceive any mischief, nor plan what they have conceived, nor how muchsoever they may have planned, move a single finger to perpetrate, unless in so far as he permits, nay unless in so far as he commands, that they are not only bound by his fetters but are even forced to do him service” (John Calvin, Institutes of Christian Religion, Book 1, Chapter 17, Paragraph 11)
Looks pretty clear that god thinks up evil and forces humans to carry it out!
Eternal torment is derived from the word torture. Augustine whom John Calvin repackaged as Calvinism was the one who started the Roman Catholic Church and brought in infant baptism and the idea that god tortures people in hell day and night.
John Piper is one of the greatest Calvinistic Reformed teachers today. I don't think you would deny that, its pretty well known. Listen to his statement on his website, quote:
"God . . . brings about all things in accordance with his will. In other words, it isn’t just that God manages to turn the evil aspects of our world to good for those who love him; it is rather that he himself brings about these evil aspects for his glory (see Ex. 9:13-16; John 9:3) and his people’s good (see Heb. 12:3-11; James 1:2-4). This includes-as incredible and as unacceptable as it may currently seem-God’s having even brought about the Nazis’ brutality at Birkenau and Auschwitz as well as the terrible killings of Dennis Rader and even the sexual abuse of a young child . . .
Once again a its pretty clear. god gassed the Jews and sends people to rape children! Its all above I didn't make it up!
god then condemns them to the hell for eternal torment for something god forced them to do.
Sorry to bring this to you if you didn't know, but it is in the public record.
Calvinsim is a bad news gospel, a doctrine of demons that the Bible says were coming in the world in the end times. I am just try to help people understand how dangerous John Calvins god is.
One more thing from John Calvin
God arranges all things by his sovereign counsel, in such a way that individuals are born, who are doomed from the womb to certain death and are to glorify him by their destruction.( John Calvin Institutes of Christian Religion, Book 3, Chapter 23, Paragraph 6)
Pretty warped and twisted this Calvinst stuff! Run while you still have eyes to see.

@@pinarellosq2868 Your Calvinist training has prepared you to refute any and all Truth that comes at the Reformed CULT.
      Irenaeus of Lyons, 120-202 AD
The Apostle John had a disciple named Polycarp, and Polycarp had a disciple named Irenaeus.
Below from (Irenaeus, Against Heresies, book 4, chapter 37, paragraphs 1 - 7)
      1. This expression [of our Lord], ‘How often would I have gathered thy children together, and thou wouldest not,’ set forth the ancient law of human liberty, because God made man a free [agent] from the beginning, possessing his own power, even as he does his own soul, to obey the behests (ad utendum sententia) of God voluntarily, and not by compulsion of God. For there is no coercion with God, but a good will [towards us] is present with Him continually. And therefore does He give good counsel to all. And in man, as well as in angels, He has placed the power of choice (for angels are rational beings), so that those who had yielded obedience might justly possess what is good, given indeed by God, but preserved by themselves. On the other hand, they who have not obeyed shall, with justice, be not found in possession of the good, and shall receive condign punishment: for God did kindly bestow on them what was good; but they themselves did not diligently keep it, nor deem it something precious, but poured contempt upon His super-eminent goodness. Rejecting therefore the good, and as it were spewing it out, they shall all deservedly incur the just judgment of God, which also the Apostle Paul testifies in his Epistle to the Romans, where he says, ‘But dost thou despise the riches of His goodness, and patience, and long-suffering, being ignorant that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But according to thy hardness and impenitent heart, thou treasurest to thyself wrath against the day of wrath, and the revelation of the righteous judgment of God.’ ‘But glory and honour,’ he says, ‘to every one that doeth good.’ God therefore has given that which is good, as the apostle tells us in this Epistle, and they who work it shall receive glory and honour, because they have done that which is good when they had it in their power not to do it; but those who do it not shall receive the just judgment of God, because they did not work good when they had it in their power so to do.

@Heart & Soul You are speaking from mans intellectual skills. I speak from the leading of the Holy Spirit against the evil system you are defending.
God loves mankind, Satan hates mankind. Calvinism and its Reformed Theology is designed to pervert God's love for mankind and HINDER those who are coming to Jesus!
True I have a BURNING HATRED for any religious system that comes between God and the object of His love, Mankind!
Many people as little children are coming to God and the Calvinists are right there to hinder them from coming.
Calvinists are puffed up in pride and condescending in their preaching of their lies ! You are a advanced example of that!
I have no hope of convincing you, but many will read my words and be warned of the dangers and that is my purpose.
Matthew 23: 15-16 15Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You traverse land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are. 16Woe to you, blind guides!
Don't you notice that they are not attacks but a warning to your victims. You describe satan's character and apply that to God! You are kicking at the Holyness of God in the name of a man! John Calvin and his poison TULIP
People can read and have common sense. They can see what Calvinism is and what Christianity is.
Christianity = This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. 1 Timothy 2 : 3-6
Fake Christianity ( Reformed Calvinism) = God arranges all things by his sovereign counsel, in such a way that individuals are born, who are doomed from the womb to certain death and are to glorify him by their destruction.
