What a prophetic comment by William Booth about the confronting dangers of the coming 20th century. Spurgeon has blessed my fellowship with the Lord so much I can't express the words. Reading "Morning and Evening" as often as I can; and listening to readings of his sermons. The Lord worked through him powerfully. Thank you for this message! Blessings!
Being one that tends to profile men like Luther and Bonhoeffer, when reading about Spurgeon, his sermons and life, I definitely found him as one who was willing to be challenged by others and then in his growth in Christ would challenge others like with his concern for the Downgrade. If one drinks beer and then states well "Spurgeon drank" but when you look further into his conviction he was confronted about the drunkards on the streets of England, he reevaluated his thoughts on this matter. I see a man quite bold and quite humble as well. Those characteristics don't come except by the Spirit of God!

I have in turn given many copies to others. I read, read, and reread different devotions in the book, and they like a faithful friend never disappoint and continue to reveal God's word in new ways. The writing if this book must have been bathed in earnest prayer, because I feel the powerful move of the Holy Spirit still every time I read it. Praise God!

My pastor showed us in Scripture that John always knew that Jesus was the messiah and that he sent his disciples to ask Jesus so that THEY would see who Jesus was in order that they would switch their allegiance to Jesus and away from John. John wanted his disciples to follow Christ, not himself. While they were in Jesus’s presence he performed many irrefutable signs and wonders, healing people etc. so there was no doubt that Jesus was God. Interesting perspective to think about.
