Next step in the Dana 60 build is the pinion install. How do we know the right pinion depth, and how do we set the right preload on the pinion bearings?
I actually appreciate you showing us the setback in the process when it comes to the bearing preload shims, that helps anyone looking to do this job because they get to see what might not go right the first time through.
Wow! The video was straight to the point, you were clear and concise. Answered all my questions and left me feeling confident about replacing my ring and pinion for the first time! One of my new favorite channels thank you for the awesome video!
Eric, I have to admit that my respect for you as a mechanic increases each time I watch you fix, repair or replace something! After watching for over a year I have seen the things you do to “Make it right” and take the time to “Do it right! A lot of mechanics take shortcuts that make the job go faste,r but may damage the integrity of the repair and cause an early failure. Good job, no great job!
Very informative video series. You explain things easily and fully, truly a sign of an experienced automotive technician, as a young mechanic I appreciate knowledge from people like you. Keep it up👍🏻
Just did a kingpin 60 and dana 70 rear, new gears bearings E-lockers , a lot of work to get to get them right... Im a retired Gm tech ... used to GM axles... spoiled ha ha.....
That is about the best video I’ve seen on how to set up a new pinion, I wish this had been made a few years ago when I did the dana 44 in my cj.. would have helped so much
@@offroadrecoveryteam I had a 1350 spicer slip with a long slip stub and because my yoke on my Dana 60 is a 1310 it's got a conversation u joint in that was hitting the pinion I had to grind down pinion and yoke and some of pinion nut just so it wasn't clicking
THATS WRONG!! I love your videos and have learned a lot, but now I am going to share some knowledge with you. The new g2 pinion, that isn't the same mark as on an OEM Dana Spicer gear set. (they don't do the variation mark.) You would need an expensive pinion depth gauge to use that number. You are going to need to do the guess and check method and pattern the gears. Make some setup races to make teardown and reassembly easier.
Only noticed now that you left handed. They say us lefties are more intelligent than right handed people. I do some dumb shit so that statement can't be true. I do know that lefties are more creative and more technically minded. (most the time anyway).
Eric, I have been doing this for 40+ years and yet you've once again taught me something. Thank you sir.
Wow, thanks
Really like your repair and upgrade videos. Thanks for putting them up! 👍👍
You bet
I used to always Break my Dana 60 axel's until I switched to the RCV Ultimate CV Axel set, these things seem Bulletproof!

Great job, that rotational torque will change with gear oil on it but as long as you towards the center of spec you'll be fine.

Great information, really enjoying this series👍😎
Awesome, thank you!
Great video and it's nice to see you set it up correctly evan when it will likely never hit 40mph
Very true!

It takes years of experience and the specs to do Hands-On work good job

@@offroadrecoveryteam what was that manual you pulled out and referenced?
That's quite an undertaking! And you make it look pretty EZ.
Stopped back to rewatch
Great video! Very informative, short and to the point!
I love learning new things. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!
My pleasure!
Great job this will help a lot of people 😁
Glad you think so!
Awsome video definitely helps me thankyou
Good work and good video I have Dana 60s and all my trucks
Great job I like when you explain everything
I appreciate that!
Another good video, keep them coming
We will!
Very informative
Awesome video series
Glad you enjoy it!
well done Sir!!
Good info. I don't have a dana 60 but maybe someday...
Nice if you are doing them all day and know the right shim to fix it :o) I have spent many an hour shimming stuff up.
Nice detail.
Thanks!
your the best
Very interesting
Hell yeah 4 more
Cant wait to see how you plan to fix the spring bolts from breaking again. Lateral arms might be better
He said they seem to last a couple years before they break, So he is just going to replace those bolts every year as normal maintenance.
Crush sleeves for pinion preload are pretty common and easier than shims.
Yeeeeehawwww
What is the title of that book?
Here wife hold my pinion. Someone asked me if I ever had used a ball joint remover .I said yes I have one .it's called kids.
Basically having a small issue with my u joint hitting the edge of the pinion threads if you ever had that happen
Don't think I have ever seen that before.

I see, I switched to a 1350 yoke for the 60.

We’re did you come up with Torking the pinion to 250 foot pounds
I missed the part where you oiled the bearings before installing the pinion and measured rotational torque, sorry.
Has seat cover heard of a jam nut?
Or a Castelated nut?
i forgot the shims one time on a dirt car . 3 weeks later you could shave with the teeth
