New subscriber, looking forward to seeing this beauty saved. I remember these vans as a kid. Most tradies used them. I suspect most got worked to dust.
The almighty algorithm suggested this video to me. I've always found Holden to be an interesting brand, and I've never seen a panel van restoration before. Looking forward to the however many episodes it'll take to get to the finished result I also appreciate the explanation as to why you are doing the things you're doing
Awesome stuff and thanks for watching! Have a bit on the next couple of weeks but hoping to crack right into it over the next few months particularly as it gets warmer.
Hey mate - on the surface rust, theres a product "GIBBS BRAND LUBRICANT" that phenix industries import to australia. Applied to the bare metal, it will keep the surface rust at bay, and it doesnt have any silicones etc, so you can just give it a quick wipe with some solvent, and paint when you are ready.
You need to watch one of Howard astill video about a coating he puts on bare metal that stops it flash rusting for weeks Then you can paint it later 👍👍
I was cringing every time you touched the raw metal with your bare hands. I guess it is in the conditioning, that is a hanging offense in some places, but prepsol soon after will have cleaned out the salt and oils I guess.

Yeah I follow his channel and have watched it. I’d never heard of that coating before the video, but something to consider for sure!

Use a mask while you're sanding/grinding.
I never bothered, and I'm paying for it now.
Very unpleasant.
Gonna be a nice van!
