Nice job. I have to agree with the LS conversion as I did that on my early 80 series with the 3F in it. My god it changed the whole character of the car from slug to a smooth powerful car. My only regret was leaving the standard tractor gearbox in it, I should have gone auto.
what an awesome build, glad someone has done it, and done it themselves. But for us regular folk.... to get 70K together for a swap, might as well just go buy an imported 80 series VX Sahara with the 1HD-FT already in it, straight from japan with the best turbo motor already for 50k all up. And the 80 you buying has all the extra luxury interior items our aussie trims never had.
Don’t forget the engineer fees and your time sorting out the wiring loom as you pick it apart to what you needed to run that engine well done mate you done a great job 👌👌👌
@enricodigenova8112 I am on a hunt for a permanent one definitely so if you have one, that would be awesome. Perhaps message me on Instagram or shoot me an email. Cheers
Well done mate on an awesome and expensive build. Each time you do something new you learn and you've done a fantastic job. Go and enjoy it, very impressive work ... 👍
brilliant build. anybody who knows about 4x4ing recognises that it is one tough rig. It is worth its money in reliability. 80's are a great solid axial, sprung car with heaps of travel. The VDJ is good for 350ks + so plenty of value in the rig build and worth every cent imo. would take this over a Barra or LS
Being a petrol fan, my ultimate conversion for my 80 would be the 5.7 V8 out of a LX570, but I’m sure the costs would be north of 50k for a turn key, engineered vehicle. And that’s without labour costs! Awesome build mate, the ultimate 80!!
My workshop does this kind of work on landrovers.. so appreciate an honest perspective.. it’s difficult to explain the costs to customers when every keyboard warrior is saying conversions cost 20k
45 /80 build? , back in the video library, i go. Great description on the honesty for the build cost. Great quality of work as a whole. I can't wait to see driving videos. Definitely a better vehicle the VDJ80 over a VDJ76. Not as cool but I wonder what a comparison cost 1vd vs fte into an 80.
Yep…my original build! Didn’t do a YT build series on it but there are a couple of vids in the history on it. Full build is on Insta. Thanks for the kind comments and glad you enjoyed! Stay tuned as some good driving vids coming next year. FTE’s are as expensive as 1VD’s these days. Only saving would be conversion parts and engineering I reckon 🤔
Thanks mate. After driving it for a little while I love it so definitely smiles for miles! Yes, I would do it again, but I reckon I’d go a twin turbo next time
Yep! After Jamie put the 1VD in the 100 series many moons ago, the 80 seems a logical place to shove one. Better than a big Chev diesel conversion? Enjoy the new toy, well earned.
Yeah fair enough mate…a lot of people have that opinion. It’s not for everyone. I did a full video on the reasons why at the start of the series. Cost wise it’s about the same now… I wanted the V8; I wanted to share parts with my 200; and I wanted something different. So for me, it’s the right build. But until you’ve driven one, you probably won’t understand. A mate of mine who owns an FTE 100 gave it a drive the other day and was amazed at the power difference from his and having driven it in the bush now, it is a completely different beast.

Unreal… what a mad conversion… respect 🫡
Thanks mate. Appreciate it and glad you enjoyed!

Yeah it’s a lot of coin regardless if you do all the work yourself or through a shop. Thanks for tuning in and glad you enjoyed!

Ah yes…haven’t done the engineering yet but there’s another couple 🤯
@@skillosshed all good mate if you need a engineer I’m happy to flick over a number 👍

@@skillosshedhow are you taking it offroad then? Watch out if around mansfield, they literally pull over every rig
Yep have taken it out around Walhalla and a few other trips planned. Will keep an eye out.
Yes I supplied fully recon LS 6 litre cost $12K
Marks adaptor $8K
Remove 1fz and install $16K
Total for me was around $37k with other gear I supplied
Good job mate ! Can’t way to see this beast off-road
Very nice, the most exciting part might be the wiring loom

What a great series build, keep up the great work! Have you done any YT on your business, that sounds interesting as well
Thanks mate. Just doing my thing.
No I haven’t done anything on that, but have been mulling it over … might end up as a podcast instead?

Yep…until you’ve done it, an opinion is uneducated! I don’t envy you guys having to explain to customers the costs. Must be tough!

It's quite amazing how the costs stack up. Would need to be a family heirloom 😂
It will be now! Just think that those costs are just the engine conversion…add to that the suspension, lockers, winch etc 🫣
Lovely Ep and setup 80 series Well done,
Thanks mate!
Well done, its a big expense but smiles for miles. Would you do it again ?

Whyyyy did you 1VD swap your 80!?!
Only ever swap it with a 1HD-FTE
