When Pete and Ellie decide to start a family, they stumble into the world of foster care adoption. They hope to take in one small child, but when they meet three siblings, including a rebellious 15-year-old girl, they find themselves speeding from zero to three kids overnight. I wish they told Lizzy they wanted to adopt her before they even met her siblings. That's the thing that was missing for me at the climax of the film

Yeah, but they wanted to be good parents to all of them, and if they told lizzy that, her sibling might have thougt, that they're not wanted. I think parents didn't want it to happen.

Typically someone who is chained to a radiator is a prisoner within a house and has no freedom or free will.
Wahlberg is implying the girl looked so unhappy she was deprived of all decision making and basic human needs. Then of course we discover she did have a mother and a normal life. But her life was probably pretty devoid of humor as her mom definitely lacked that throughout the movie.

As someone who was adopted at the age of 8 and watched someone in my foster home be ignored for being a teenager, I can attest to this. Even though I was young, I was often not given another thought because I wasn't a baby or a toddler. And while I got adopted by a great family, I can't say that it never hurt to always be ignored. I can't imagine going through what my foster sister did when there was statically no hope. (She went on to be adopted by our foster mom and so did her brother).
When my partner and I adopted our daughter who was a teen she didn't believe it until she saw the actual documents and then she just started crying. Those moments are hard to forget.

Oh yes they can... first hand experience with that lol. As a high schooler myself, she's like that rebellious popular girl that is somewhat emo and edgy, but at the same time relateable. They're a good mix of popular, emo, band, and drama.

The teenagers that are new to foster care should get a LOT more attention because if there NEW than something they will remember the rest of there lives just happened and there just scared and confused on another note I LOVED THIS MOVIE

Omg, I remember watching this movie when it first came out on DVD. It's crazy to think that I'm Lizzy's age now... she's still 10x cooler than I'll ever be though and I'm still impressed by her quick thinking and comebacks 2 years later.

Its sad because a lot of the kids who age out of the system dont wanna be pity parties but they feel so pitiful and it makes it even harder.
Mark actually did really great in this role. When I read the synopsis of this movie and read saw the cast, I felt like this was a role for Steve Carell or Ty Burell and not a spy thriller type actor like Mark but he did do great!!

I love this fiom so much and stumbled on it by acciden. Lizzy is so adorable with the greatest smile and Rose Bryne is as beautiful and funny as ever. I love the grandmothers as well. Also an extra treat to see my favorite comedian Tig in this as well. All in all a touching hilarious film.

Many people complain about teen adoption. However consider this: the very reason for parenting is to form the children's mind in a way so that the parents knowledge and way of survival are inherited (therefore their genes are preserved in the next iteration, which is not relevant in adoption of course). The most important part of anyone's life is when they start to develop their personality, and what environment, events and knowledge are they basing it on, this easily starts to happen before anyone gets to be a teen. Anything happens between age 3-15 are significantly more important then the later ages in terms of personality, IQ, emotional stability, etc. When you adopt a teen you loose the ability to lay the groundwork for their mind, you are basically choosing to live with another almost adult (nothing wrong with that though). This is completely go around our biological need to parent I think.

So much fun we didn't even plan witch movie we would watch, any of then would make me fell good anyway, as long I was with her. Unfortunately, she didn't love me enough to stay with me.
