Here are some descriptions of the audio you're hearing:
Saturated wash
Single Head, Mode A with no Tape Crinkle, max Low Contour for a very high-passed repeat sound, ala magnetic drum units. High repeats generate a nicely saturated wash behind the guitar.
Dark and dirty.
Fixed, Mode B. Maximum Delay Time results in slowest tape speed, resulting in the most exaggerated Wow/Flutter and Crinkle influence. This is a sick machine.
Dirty slap.
Fixed, Mode A for a slapback on a distorted guitar. The natural warmth created by the slower tape speed allows the delay to sit in the mix nicely.
Power guitar.
Single Mode A. Using the Tape Age knob, the bandwidth is reduced and a natural echo is created from the cranked power chords.
Wow & Flutter.
The Single Head, Mode B machine. By varying the Wow & Flutter, and Tape Crinkle controls from minimum to maximum in four increments, the range of 'machine health' possibilities is highlighted.
Just bought one today to add to my Strymon arsenal. Mobius, Deco and El Cap. I dont know what kind of ninja magicks you guys are using over there, but the tones I am creating are just so far beyond anything I have come up with previously, its kinda surreal. Even my neighbor commented on "how great my guitar sounded" tonight. My deepest gratitude to you all. :)

i was about to sell my el cap due to not able to use it as much as i wanted to but when i saw this video i had a change of mind. im keeping it. i just love how this box can make the wow&flutter effect. i just love the way it sounds. :)

Hello, you can simply plug your guitar into the left input of the El Cap and then come out of the left output to the input on the front of your amp. :)
It sounds amazing!
I think you could come pretty close. You could dial in a very quick slap back delay sound with a touch of Spring Reverb.

if you make set the pedal to have a hotter bias to the preamp then it does run away, if you lower the bias it will not run away with a swell in volume - so you can fine tune it to your liking (one way, the other, or in between)

@88mpny what r your thoughts on the lunar echo pedal from dmb? cause i like the tone of the delays better....lol u would think only the guitar was effecting it but ive gone back and forth and the el capistan has a weird tone to it, seriously!!! other than tubescreamer using it there is no video that the pedal sounds great on, unfortunately.....
Would it to feedback loop this thing? I'm thinking a mono y cable in the input, accepting into it one of the outputs...would it add more layers to the sound or just not be what we'd expect? Very close to buying one of these, just curious. Thanks.
Perhaps a silly question, but can it do good dotted 8th notes? It's an important setting for me, and the manual says it can, but after searching "el capistan dotted 8th" on youtube I found a video of some guy having some trouble with it. Basically the only thing that holds me back from getting it.
***** You can certainly set dotted 8th notes with the El Capistan with the Fixed Mode B setting.
Could you explain how to set Dotted 1/8 notes to a specific tempo using El Capstan ? ( by tapping in Quarter Notes BPM ) please ?
@@tweedguitar9103 One-and-two-and-three-and-four-and...dial it in so the repeat hits on the 'and'.
Is it normal for dry signal to abruptly drop off instead of gradually fade into complete saturation while setting the mix at 5 o'clock?

Does the TimeLine have all the same features as this? Or do you lose the extra tweak ability for all the extra functions? Cheers
Robert Jon West That wouldn't work as you'd end up clipping the input as well as most likely running into some serious feedback noise.
This or DiG for rock lead guitar style? i love the quirkiness of the El.Cap but can it do rock lead? Or even more modern stuff?
They can both work great for lead guitar. They just both have different flavors in the tone and features.
@alanpitfall So do you want people to carry around massive units with real tapes in them?
Would have been so nice if the secondary functions were printed on the pedal in the color used in the manual

What's he doing when holding down both switches? Does it access a bank of options or something?
To access the secondary functions on the pedal, you hold down the two footswitches as you turn the knobs to change the secondary parameters.

Why is the tap led inconsistent with it's flashes?
Where did you see inconsistencies with the LED flashes?
@ihasmario El Capistan accepts levels up to +8dBu, which can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it. :)
What is the best Strymon pedal for delay/reverb for vocals?
Hi, It really depends on what sounds you’re looking to get. All of our pedals work great with vocals. You could try blueSky or DIG. If you’re looking for more sounds and greater tweakability, you could try BigSky or TimeLine :)

I like the reverberator by strymon but the el capistan doenst seem to beat the tone of the lunar echo pedal by dmb despite the cool effects
This pedal is Jeff Beck tastic. Is there any chance you could knock off about, say, £125 from the Retail price so I can take my youngest kid off eBay before the auction ends?

Yes, the El Capistan will work with bass and other instruments and vocals.
