    Finally a pedal Review that it's done the way it should be. Not like all other demos where the same blues licks being played over and over.

    Dude I just want you to know this is the best fucking pedal review I ever seen and I've been watching reviews since 2009.
    I've never seen something this precise, elegant, and beautifully demonstrated.
    The layout is gorgeous, the font you chose for the viewer to read is just calming against the wood grain with the gentle lighting.
    Please keep making pedal reviews!

    Thank you for a very well organized in depth demo of this pedal. No talking is needed as you brought up the bullet points on each feature. When the demo was over I felt like I completely understood this pedal and hadn't been shouted at during nor had to sit through endless noodling to show me what a great guitar player you are. It's a breath of fresh air. Thank you!!

    This demo had a lot of soul and feel. I’ve learned a ton of Strymon pedals and really enjoyed them but sold them... but this one ’ve always wanted this one and this demo shows why. This was going to be the first Strymon I bought but instead I went with the Big Sky, Timeline and Mobius and I wish I had just bought this. These tones are what I really wanted. I think it will be next pedal I purchase after watching this. Amazing demo, honestly the best I’ve seen of this pedal and I’ve seen a lot. Well done....Sugar Drive, Kingsley Page and Fender Tonemaster, very nice choice of gear.

    This pedal gets better and better the longer you are using it. I am glad not having sold my El Capistan at the beginning, as I planned to.
    There are even more hidden features than in your video. Certainly, you could not discuss all in this short time. My favourite feature is the "hidden Frippertronics", according to Chords of Orion:
    In the Sound-on-Sound mode (single+C), you can tap in the splice-in and -out points even _before_ you play anything. This gives you up to 20 seconds delay time / loop length you can fill with whatever you like. :)

      @@AndrewChengGuitar Strymon pedals - at least those I happen to know - are in my opinion (I'm sure you second this) much more than "effect" tools. I tend to call them "musical instruments" instead. They need time and a rather steep learning curve to be fully comprehended, but it pays off. Not only Strymon pedals work with guitars, which is obvious; they are great with synthesisers as well. Lately, I have convinced the "heaven duo" El Capistan + Nightsky to make my Moog Mother32 sing and tell stories. While it's more some kind of feasibility study rather than a musical piece, it might be interesting in this very context. Some photographic memories of the Summer 2020 included. :) A simple sequence evolves thanks to both Strymons to something almost organic… It was a pleasure. If you don't mind, I link the according video here: ua-cam.com/video/PK8kC3itqcI/v-deo.html

    Great demo! Stereo would have been cool but you really gave us a good idea of what the pedal is capable of. I suppose most will use it in mono anyways.

    • @AndrewChengGuitar
      @AndrewChengGuitar  3 роки тому

      Thanks a lot! Yeah stereo delay gets a little too smeary for the kind of lines I usually like to play, and I figured that most people use it in mono/with one amp like you said. Might try more stereo stuff in the future though!

    great video, thanks!
    interestingly, i think this pedal is even better than this video shows, because it is a mono input to STEREO out. the stereo is fantastic on it. i get that mono is more practical for many mixes, or that some people prefer their guitar as a mono voice - but as an ambient pedal, you gotta try it! it also works well on my synths

    • @AndrewChengGuitar
      @AndrewChengGuitar  3 роки тому

      Thanks Robby! I’ll have to try stereo on it, just don’t have two amps for it right now, maybe in the future, but I’m sure it sounds great! Yeah, even when I record with two amps, the mixing engineer prefers I go dual mono rather than stereo haha!

    The sound is very organic, better than the Boss SE-20, in my opinon. To be fair on the Boss, I think it came out in 2007, which is some time ago!
    Since these are digital simulation of tape delay, no doubt more powerful and affordable processors lead to more accurate results (with good programming, of course).

    i always wanted this... finally did lot of research and realised i liked the EP- 3 sound. And the choices were Dunlop Echoplex vs Strymon El Capistan vs Catilinbread Belle Epoch.... in my opinion the best EP-3 Real tapes sound is from the Belle Epoch. Strymon has a little more clean sound. So even though I had a great deal for this I didnt get this. Good pedal though.

    • @AndrewChengGuitar
      @AndrewChengGuitar  3 роки тому +1

      I hear you, I did some research as well, I think that if you want more of the original colour of the EP-3, the Catalinbread is a great choice. The El Capistan is great for adding some cleaner tape sounds and staying out of the way of your main sound, I’m sure you’re enjoying the Belle Epoch!

    When you set the Time to 0 and Mix to 100% , is there still a tiny delay? I would like all the tape characteristics, Lofi warble etc. but without the delay

    • @AndrewChengGuitar
      @AndrewChengGuitar  2 роки тому +2

      It’s definitely usable at that range! There is a delay but it’s not very perceptible, just the regular few MS delay you hear from digital conversion

    • @AndrewChengGuitar
      @AndrewChengGuitar  3 роки тому +3

      Thank you! The pedal can do both, and I only had one amp at the time, so I couldn’t do stereo, maybe next time! I honestly prefer his pedal in mono, the stereo delays can really clutter up the faster lines IMO
