Thank you for making this video. I was struggling with using my El Capistan as an outboard effects processor. This was terrible because I had never heard such a gorgeous modulation on a delay. I had given up but, after watching your video I tried using a traditional hardware aux send and return on my mixer. And taking your advice, I dialed back the send level a bit. It worked beautifully. Thank you. You're amazing.
Finally I'm also getting one for my live trumpet effects chain. You made the choice in delay search for me, as this video came out. Thanks a lot! I'm really looking forward to play with this on top of my acoustic sound and some chorus...of course to some heavyweight dubwise tunes. Bless Up!
yeah cool video !! El Capistan can be a good altenrative for live dub mix in Sound System & Studio !! give thanks for the nice demo i use a Boss RPS10 ( i love it ) & TC Electronic M350 and sometimes an EVANS AE-205R soon i have to find this Strymon El Capistan :)
"Darn it, people only make demos of this with guitar! I'm going to do something different!" First track he sends through is a guitar track. But seriously, I think there is something about it I like more than UAD's RE-201.
I love this video bro thanks. I just bought this because of this video you should be on their payroll person lol. Question I also bought this same console Midas Venice F32 a while due to this video and a few other I saw that convinced me to pull the trigger on it. My question is what exactly is the set up to get the same effects as you got in this video? Any feed back would be greatly appreciated thanks a million again. Salute Will
Thanks man I’m sorry this video is quite old. I’m pretty sure i used my outboard spring reverb it’s a Furman RV-1 and routed it with the aux send. Hope that helps.
Hey you need an insert cable which basically a TRS on one end which splits into two TS cables on the other end. The TRS plugs into the insert Jack on the console, and the “tip” carries the signal to the pedal and the “sleeve” carries the signal from the pedal. It’s pretty cool how it works.
Hey me again ! keep on watching your video. Funny how you « play » El Capistan and your mix table. Which mix table are you using ? . Great great experience . Just one question again. Where are you from ? Us? UK? Sorry . I’m french and not use with english subtility.
Great Demo DM! thank you for that one! How can u connect the El Capistan? Aux out from the Midas (Line level) and u return in mic pre or line input? thank you very much All the best
Yes precisely. The Input of the el cap can accept line level signal. It starts to get wacky at like +24dB so gotta be a little careful it’s not waaaay too hot. Yes straight to the line input back in the Midas.
I tried using the capistan as a one single repeat and feeding the sound back to it, but it kinda muddies the sound back. Have you tried that? Maybe I need to mess with the hidden feature
thefruitfarmer3000 thanks! I would say yes, it’s tough to make sound bad. It has a very very good sound quality to it. It’s hard to describe. I think it has to do with the really excellent A/D D/A conversion and excellent algorithms. Thanks for tuning in!
You can sure eff it up if you're not careful It's really easy to forget that people like Kahn are professionals with thousands of hours of experience riding desks He makes it look easy, for a lot of us it is like spinning plates 😂
I know exactly what you mean. The unit accepts line level signal, but if you take it too hot, it does a weird glitch, goes super loud and goes to 50/50 wet/dry mix. Just gotta know how far you can push it and be careful!!
@@DMKahn For sure I use a soundcraft with a decent bit of headroom but used a cheap behringer 4mono/4stereo mixer for a live thing and the aux send was so hot at even the lowest levels that the el cap was in permanent spaz mode Keep up the excellent content UK subscriber
Ah dang... yeah it can be hard to gain stage properly with the limitations of certain hardware. The other option is to get a reamp box to get it to low level.... then use your board’s preamp to get it back to line level. Just a thought. Thank you for your support breddren 🙏
@@slacknote I have an el cap and use it in a similar way The only problem with feeding the delay back to itself on a channel strip is the El Cap has got an inbuilt 8db limit and if I overload the input via the desk sometimes the pedal's settings change and it just suddenly goes from 100% wet to 50:50 dry wet This only happens when I turn the aux send back into itself though But it's all lessons for me re gain and headroom etc so I'm not complaining too much It's an excellent delay with a unique organic character of its own

G. H.T there are varying opinions on that. You have to consider the sound as well as overall price. The Volante is an awesome pedal no question, but at nearly double the price of the El Cap, to me it wasn’t worth entertaining.... especially when I heard people selling their Volante and re buying the El Cap. There’s just something really special in the algorithms of the El Cap.
He made an aux fb loop in his desk and not in the delay unit . Delay he used needed just to produce 1 echo that is same as original and his desk makes it ethernal without degrading. It an core Dub tech Aux Feedback loop in the desk.
@@ElNumeroUno777 No not at all, It s a feedback loop that you make by sending scully 4 track reel to reel return back to it self using aux send pot on the mixer. Regardless the fx you have you get this very long feeback echo since you basicly control the feedback with the fader on the mixers return track from tape machine. Nice man, your trumpet will sound amazing thru the El cap. And if you’re looking for chorusing, try the wow and flutter on max. It’s so lush!

When you record your guitar do you have it set to 1/8 and when you do DUB effects during mixing play back you use 1/8T?
When I record Guitar, I do it dry, and FX later. 1/8T is cool but so is 1/4T, experiment! big up thanks for stopping by

are ur mixer analog? what interface du u use! ins and out?

It looks like you've got that box in a send return loop. Shouldn't it feed into it's own channel?
It’s sent via an insert on the return track of the reverb.
