Uncle Mike. you are amazing... you really are the 'concrete whisperer' they don't make them like you anymore. I'm blessed to have bumped into your 'how to' videos. You've saved me thousands dong my own track-house upgrades thanks to you. Your statement about your pops taught you to work hard but not how to make money, was wise and had tons of wisdom. Kudos for teaching your family the trade. Blessings
Youre one of my favorite UA-camrs Mike. Ive watched many of your vids and youre still consistent. Thank you for your expertise! I use some your tricks at home on my own property
Impressive the way you handle a job that requires specific skill and many years of experience, and yet you always encourage and give such excellent helpful videos. Thank you.
Mike from watching your videos I was able successfully finish a few stucco jobs. I kept hearing your voice in my head saying “no big deal” 😂 thank you for all your helpful masonry tips and tricks.
I've learned so much from watching your videos. I patched up a hole in my foundation that was letting water into my basement after learning how to do it by watching you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us Mike.
This is the video that I’ve been waiting for. Some parts of my house foundation need this repair. The parging has come off in some places. And in other places the backfill has settled, and the bare concrete foundation wall has been exposed. As soon as the warm weather arrives I’m doing this. Thanks Mike.
Mike, today I went over to a friend’s old house where I repaired the stone foundation “Mike Style” last year and it’s holding up great. I paint every patch job with Portland and it really works. I even showed my young friend how I learned how to do it from your videos and now he’s doing more repairs on his own. Your experience has benefitted me a lot and I pass it on whenever I get the chance. Thanks and keep those videos coming!
One of the best videos, Mike. Thank you so much for spending your time in sharing the skills with us. And that was some excellent advice you're giving to your nephew 😀! They taught us how to work hard, but we now live in sharks' times.
great job mike thanks for the tips! i have used your videos to do many projects i couldn't do before until i saw your videos glad journeyman like you are sharing your knowledge on you tube
One difference between the use of regular Portland mixes and the fast dry compounds is the shrink cracking & checking issue. Those newer products seem to shrink a lot less. I've tried to use them for surface areas. Thank you Mike.
Mike love these videos especially being from NEPA myself. Honesdale. Helped me with my stone foundation. Just have to figure out how to fix the bottom of my crumbling chimney
Nice...no elmer's glue either! Water only! Maybe sometime you could explain why the water bonds the two coats. You know...with the crystals growing and all. Can't wait till we have green grass like that again. This winter was rough.
Mike, Could you use a stucco base coat mix for the first layer? I am wanting to refinish my block foundation that had been stucco' d over. I tried to remove the old stucco with a roto hammer, but couldn't get it all off. I love your videos. Keep up the great work. Thanks, Nick
Hi Nick, I can't tell you what to do, in a lot of my videos I make the coment of like I dentist, only the stuff that's bad, what product you use is up to you, thanks mike
Hi Mike, Awesome video I enjoyed watching. I poured a gas fire pit at my house and it was smooth Concrete but I wanted texture. I made a paste like your stucco mix but used a 3/8 map roller. I'm thinking you could use a smaller one 4" on that. I just put it on heavy on roller and rolled it on, looks great. Have you ever done it like that before?
Great video mike. Quick question if a water leak is coming in, would you recommend taking off all the concrete/mortar on the inside on a foundation? I have a sand/stone foundation and it seems in the 80s or so they parged it with Portland cement and portland white paint. Only problem is the wall won't breathe with that covering. Removed a whole wall of parging but today noticed a smaller leak near the floor. Started removing the stuff like a dentist but most of it is staying, even though the wall is damp behind. Getting some gutter repairs and digging a french drain to stop it from coming as much.
Hi Jedi, I never seen a leak that could be stopped from the inside, I never had problem with Portland, motar always flaked up and fell off when I used it, there are some others with different ideas but somehow I would think it's from the outside, I hope it helps Mike
So Portland cement is what you used to make a soupy bonding agent and the masonry s type mortar is what you uses along with the Portland mixed to fill the major gaps?
Love your videos Mike, learned so much…I just had a small garage built with concrete blocks as a foundation. I want to cover the blocks with stone veneer, do i use the same mix, one scratch coat, on the blocks first before I add the stones?
Hello sir, do you have any videos on stucco repair? I recently got horizontal, hairline cracks around my six year old house. Would you say this is common? Normal? Thanks!
Hi Vilson, I never seen a stucco building that didnt get cracks, some of the newer products have some stretch, but buildings expand and contract, thanks mike
Great video, Mike, I learned a lot. After filling in the big holes, why did you put on two coats of the soupy mix? Was one coat of soupy not sufficient?
You ever consider changing it up Mike? Aside from just repeating to "use the bonding cement paint to make it stick" to alternating volume as well? Whisper it, yell it, whisper, yell. I think it would make it very memorable.
@@Bob.Jenkins Yeah but if you add crazy into the mix, then people will be too scared to not learn it. You never know man, don't want to fail the test from the yelling teacher.
@@Bob.Jenkins I wouldn't go that far. Just being silly. I love Mike. But text has no intonation so it's interpreted whatever way. And I think him repeating what he does is an excellent idea, verbalising your thoughts as you're executing them makes things crystal clear. Learned a lot from Mike.
Nice job! I’m new to your channel and your videos are great. I want to build a pizza oven and was wondering what you think about type of mortar to use ? Any input would be appreciate. Thanks
See, my daughter's house has really deep huge holes around the house. Can I do the same thing you did here??! Ana what about the cracks lines inside the house, how i can fix that before she put the vynil woods floors?
