Who talks to a kid like this? “Preconceived norms”? The child was clearly confused because it goes against everything they had ever learned about humans and biology. It’s possible to go about it in a kinder way, however these are young children. I also think it’s unrealistic for a child to apologize like that. As well as the fact that it’s not the teacher place to change this child’s mind about a very sensitive and politically charged issue. ALSO, the child probably only agreed with the teacher and said they don’t agree with their parents because the teacher was pressuring them.

In model that behavior, she is modeling judgment and closemindedness when she thinks she’s modeling acceptance. Instead, she should’ve taken that child aside and said, let’s find a way to be kind and be all friends together at school. That’s the things that I say to my kindergartners and first graders when they are having a disagreement I say you know when we’re at school here we’re all friends together and everybody is important everybody’s feelings matter, so let’s be kind and gentle and think of everybody’s Feelings and do our best to be kind to everyone. We don’t talk about politics or triggering topics and neither do the teachers of the older children, and when I substitute in older, children’s classrooms and things like this, come up, I say well this is a matter for Home at school, We are kind to everybody, no matter what they Believe when you’re at home you do as your parents tell you.

She should have pulled her aside and started with, "Why". If the answer is "Because my parents", that's not a reason. It also isn't the place of the teacher to discuss minors genders etc.

Regardless, students should have the right to ask to switch seats if they feel it’s will negatively impact their ability to focus or the comfortability in the classroom to do their work. Teachers goal is to create a positive and helpful learning environment, otherwise, students are not going to learn as well. Yes, this student will have to be civil to people they do not agree with in the future, but sitting next to someone everyday when it’s not necessary is just screwing them out of focus and knowledge. I’m grateful that if I had trouble with a seat my teachers would move me. A bit different, but once even asked a teacher to move me away from a crush I had because I could not focus. Most of the time they do not ask why, and you can always say personal reasons.
