Across the Arctic Wild | 20-Days Through the Barren Grounds to the Arctic Ocean E4 - the Far North
In this episode, Ted @TheRealTedBaird and I start our day with a portage that we camped along the night prior. We are then met with a rapid that I'm able to line down before getting into a large yet shallow lake where we hook into some large lake trout.
We make camp after paddling a good distance and are treated to a lake trout fish fry and beautiful views of the sunset on the horizon. However, the beauty comes with a downside-the bugs are relentless, adding an extra layer of discomfort to our stay.

YES!!!! Two new Jim & Ted Baird videos in a week! How lucky can a man get!
Also looking forward to the family adventures up north
Way luckier 😂😂
I totally agree about the fun of navigating without GPS.
Yes I’d like to see a video of using just old school compass bearings.
Been watching u for a long time buddy, I must say after a hard work week as every week when your videos get posted I reserve them for every Saturday morning out on my porch with my little buddy beside me, best to describe it is like a big jet coming in for a landing, you help to make my landing that much smoother and bring my hectic life back into perspective, videos as always are awesome, nothing like brothers sharing incredible journey together, only wished I was there in person as well, thank you for an incredible videos that your willing to share with us all, second to none. Rob down in Ala.
Wow, what big rocks in this area in the water. I always enjoy the videos. Thanks for being so down to earth people. Todd.
Much appreciated. Ya, so many boulders! Glad you’re liking the vid
Hey Jim and Ted, I just love watching y’all catch fish and oh boy it looks so good when you’re eating them. I want some so bad 😋🎣! Love y’all. 👏👏👏🎣🎣🎣🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯😎😎😎
I love the singing Ted!!!
I bet he sings to his kids.
That clear water is something else. Those bugs look horrid! ..and I thought they were bad here in Manitoba.
Scrolling through my phone, nothing.,. Then I see Jim baird Adventurer. Slam on the brakes.. I got something to watch! Yay!!! love it!!!! Thanks guys 🙋🏻♀️💪🙏
@JimBairdAdventurer Great video Jim!!! The fish fry at the end of the video looked really good that it got me hungry. Thanks for sharing with us. Stay safe out there.
Yeah I would like that trip, except knowing you guys there is some type 2/3 fun ahead. May be beyond my 73 years; oh and the bugs. I'd have to eat inside my bug suit I'm thinking those bugs carry 50 cal beaks on them. Keep on em boys love the trips!!!!
That fish looked excellent!
Ever thought about checking out American rivers . Stay golden out there Jim. Your adventures are inspiring to watch and those fish were huge. Fish 🎣 on 👊💪😆🇺🇸⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️
My husband & I love watching these epic adventures. We’re excited to continue on with episode 4!!!! Thanks for all of the hard work that goes into these!
What a champion
woohoo! another episode 👍🏽
You realize I have to make some Crisp fish tomorrow for dinner. Looks SOOO good. Hey Jim (& Ted) thanks for the ride. Always beautiful and always an adventure. You are huge troopers to deal with those bugs….mamma mia! 😱
Oh yeahhhhhh!!! 🎉❤ I Love fish!! And I just Dream of trying those lakers ❤ well because Jim you make it look and sound So Good!!!! Lol! ❤ i guess i will fry up something this weekend just to trick my brain in to thinking its Jims and Teds amazing Lake Trout❤❤❤ cant wait till next week❤
Awesome 🎉 thank you Jim
Really enjoy these videos.
What a beautiful, epic sky…part of the “landscape.”
Those black flies! Seeing how many you can get with one clap. That's one way to measure how thick they are. I see you guys use tents with a floor. The backpacker videos I've watched, they all have floorless tents.I know that's to keep the weight down in their pack, but I have to have a floor in my tent. Keeps out the creepy crawlers and critters at night. Gorgeous fish you were catching, and good eating too. Great video, thanks!
Your videos are addicting. They should come with a disclaimer. Brings back memories of my Dubawnt River trip last summer. Bugs in barren lands are epic beyond words and the scenery is mesmerizing.
Great video, beautiful scenery, amazing fishing. HOWEVER Those black flies gave me the heeby jeebies! Now I get the Muscol with Deet. Especially since I contracted meningitis from mosquitoes back a couple decades ago camping in Eastern WA. Worried me when u said Ted had a headache. Look forward to the next installment.
Hiya Boys, I'm so sorry Ted has a headache I know they're so painful & inconvenient. I hope Ted u can relax when u rest, keep yr fluid intake to the max. Even so another brillant episode. Jim yr lining was pretty great. Thank-you Both❣️
I could almost taste that fish. As always, Thx for sharing your adventures with us.
My brother and I live to camp and fish ! Nothing better in my life ! Probably why I love your channel! Keep going boys we love it 🎉
That trout looked sooooooo good!
Wanted to add a comment about the coffee, Amazon sells pre. Serving coffee with sugar/creamer added.. Timmy's Blend , double double if you want.. probably dry soup mixes as well . that's for your videos.
Amazing
Gorgeous fish so far on this trip 🙌🏼
Downloading episodes to watch on my flight from Thailand back to Canada. Back just in time for last trout weekend. ❤
This is way better than the crap on tv. I've stopped watching cable tv a long time ago. Thanks Jim
gotta love lake trout
thanks for playing, catch you later
The fishing looks like so much fun. You got some really beautiful overhead shots of the water! And the bugs are insane.
Wind., both a blessing and a curse!
Amazing fishing this trip so far!
Proper adventure can’t wait for next one ❤️🏴
Floating a wild river, eating a fresh trout, camping in remote areas: the best of the best in spite of a zillion mosquitos
oh bummer on the cut finger. Bright side good to have heard that Ted's headache subsided :)
Love this! Great fish to fry! The clarity of the water is suburb! TY😎
The vastness really adds to the epicness! Thanks for sharing JB!
Love the suspenders, sweet
Well lucky me this morning another episode of the Baird Bros! Just what I needed before heading off to the tree mines!
The green water from arial view is so surprising….sure tempt me with that piece of fish…I’ll have you know I drooled over my iPad!
I enjoy watching your videos, it is so calming after a rough day. Very relaxing and enjoyed the fishing and now it is time for bed. Blessings
Great catch Jim! That fish looked really good 😊😊 Great video too. Enough with those black flies already ❤😂
That fish looked so yummy!!!
Nice to see you Jim and Ted thank you for sharing the awesome video.
The best about this adventure is the clean indigenous surrounding and that there are no people around all the time, that is a good thing 🙂at these times, I am here in the desert escaping people and yet almost every time I am out I find trash, obviously it flies from somewhere where there are people, if the arctic was a survivable I would take one way arctic flight and never come back 🛩 never mind the bugs.
The plot or should I say the bugs are thickening 😳! Fish looks YUMMY 🙂
Yay! Another Jim n Ted adventure just love watching your epic journeys fish looks lush 😋 best wishes to you both ❤
Hey Jim, myself and my 8 year old son love your videos we watch you all the time. Keep it up, we are from Newfoundland and love the outdoors as well. Take care
Haven’t commented in awhile (been at trout camp), so cool you guys are hard at it again. Nice stuff as usual!
Another grand adventure with Jason Segal and Jesse Plemons!
We need a Baird Brothers Spotify Playlist!
The mighty tube!
Thanks for another great adventure 👍🍺
Ted doesn’t get headaches only hangovers 😂
Those bugs would make me nuts🤯🤯but it would be worth it to eat that fresh fish ❤
Another one! Sweet 🙌🏻
Another fantastic episode!!! Looks like fishing was still quite good though in spite of things. Don’t know about all those bugs though … Thanks for sharing!!
Awesome.
Ya los vi todos los episodios de the Artic I was reviewing and yes I already saw the three episodes, they were very good.
I agree that navigating with map and compass is way more fun 😁 I did it for five days in northern Saskatchewan this summer. We had GPS for backup, though.
Have you ever forgotten to pack something. Great overhead shots of the lake!
Hi. Brave brothers happy see u guys again. 😂❤😂
That’s a wind ravaged unbelievable part of the world.
Another one
Man the fish are so beautiful and there my not be anything worst than cutting your finger on a canoe trip takes for ever to heal and you just end up bleeding on everything
You can be heard with an echo, something is happening with your audio, then the trip is good 🎣🎣🎣 the fishing is good 😃
Nice thing about the wind is it really keeps the bugs off you. Could not believe your earlier videos with the swarms constantly attacking you and Ted. You're going to need a blood transfusion after this if you keep getting into this many crazy bug swarms. Also, how do these bugs survive in such a barren land? Keep up the great videos!!
can only imagine how tasteful that Fish is!!! fish on guys'!!
The Baird brothers.,..if you know you know.....❤😊
Excellent adventure. The background buzzing sound (I wouldn't call it music) is very annoying, Jim. Thanks for sharing.
No rest for the wicked
J & T thanks for sharing your trip, ? Do you pack any kind of splint first aid material for your ankles, all that rock portaging is easy place to twist/sprain/ break an ankle.
Fish, fish fish...You are what you eat. Did you start growing fins or develop gills? 😀
I know you show google maps in some of your videos, is there anywhere where we can view your route online? It is always interesting to follow along.
Great video as always!
Nice size fish. Too bad about the low water. On your trips in the past you used naptha to cook with. On this trip you are using LPG. Some time in the future do a comparison of the two. And explain why you choose different ones for different trips. You do a good job teaching about camping.
That spoon is mahassive lol
You must have used that fish fry sound 15 times 😆
My friend is a redhead, suffers from migraines as well. His Doctor thinks it has something to do with the gene variant redheads have. It was interesting, different heightened pain receptors. Maybe that’s why Ted gets hit with the headaches so bad. Sorry to see he battles with those.
Interesting how those trout take a big lure. Can you check their stomach to see what they are eating? Or did you?
looks like scotland. you should come over. id put you up , and organise thing for you.
Would love to go to Scotland! 🏴 with a name like James Baird I’d fit in pretty well I’d imagine.
The blackflies are trying to get in my pants, at least they could offer to buy me a drink first hahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahaha .....
The Flies! Gz do you ever get away from th e swarms?
My all time record is 52... what!!! So funny 😂
Do you ever get sick of fish or is that crazy? Did you sing these growing up? The black flies..omg.
You guys eating like kings
Ted, it has been quite a while since we have seen both Heather/Bella on your videos
Hope they are well
Jeffrey
why no double blade paddle? purely a float plane weight isuue?
Those bug's are just TOO much 😫 😩 they can ruin a beautiful location. Sorry you had to deal with that, i just couldn't
Well, it’s nothing we weren’t expecting as it’s typical of the Arctic Barren Grounds. Fortunately we were prepared with Muskol and good bug shirts! You can also bring a tarp with mosquito netting walls which is a god send but we left it back to to floatplane weight restrictions.
Hey Jim if you get a chance please check out the nahanni valley...I'm sure you know about it, if not...your welcome,😂
Thanks a lot, the south Nahanni is actually the first wild river Ted and I paddled! That was 19 years ago.
👍👍🤠
First
🇨🇦👌
Dose ted have a UA-cam channel
Yes Ted Baird Adventurer
So how did you guy's decide who gets the short straw with the 💩 canoe, flip a coin, or did Ted just take one for the team
Try cut back creamer..death.Unless find something more natural
