    I'm in my freshman year rn, and this video is really made me feel better. Tbh i feel so pressured seing people in the same year as mine took so many recruitments either for events, organization, or internship. I feel like i am so far left behind them because honestly, i still dont understand how things will exactly go in college, everything is new and unfamiliar. And same as you were, i am not ready. The FOMO in college is real, but you right, everyone has their own pace. I hope i can get a right time to start exploring opportunities once i am ready and understand with the college environment. Wml 😭💕🙏🏻

    13:00 THIS. I'm doing research at a college nearby (I'm in hs btw) which sounds cool and all and ppl would kill to have this internship. But I wasn't quite ready for it. I have really struggled and I let some important ppl down. I didn't have the time management, advocacy, and the independence that you need to succeed in these unstructured environments and I very recently figured it out. Don't try to do things like get an internship if you yourself are struggling in class or don't know how to deal with not knowing what you have to do. Figure it out before you give yourself more to stress over. I've had to learn this the hard way...

    honestly, affordability is important. if you are undecided on what to do, take advantage of a community college for your general education. people diss on CC but it’s cheap and convenient. from my personal experience, my professors (mostly art teachers) helped me build confidence and eventually helped me find the career i wanted. ngl CC feels just like high school, but i think it also gives you more time to absorb and develop into your adulthood.

    Speaking on the GPA thing for the tech industry, out of all the STEM fields, this industry is actually the most lenient regarding GPA since your skills and experiences will carry the most weight regarding getting an interview rather than what your grades are. This philosophy holds the most true for big tech companies like FAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google), Microsoft, etc... because they don't even ask for your actual GPA on the application portal, but ask for your skills and experiences outside of the classroom (should clarify that Amazon does ask for GPA, but it's never used against you; Google only asks for transcripts to confirm your graduation date). The GPA barrier is only true if they explicitly ask for at least a 3.0 (at times at least a 3.2) within the application portal. Otherwise, it's not something to worry about too much, but you should avoid flunking out of school if you want to graduate. Thanks for the great video as always :'))

    i was lucky enough to have taken an internship before i got to college through a government program my high school did, and i had 12 dual enrollment credits and a major planned out from 8th grade onward, and i still feel behind and lost this first week, so like ... idk i guess the best thing i can say is that everyone feels pretty much the same and the footing is pretty even

    the friends thing varies from person from person. When you are grouped with people in activities and you are an extremely valuable member as you are very good at your part of work, they will remember you and will definitely scramble to reach out to you when you are tasked to group again even if you just sit there doing nothing

    I dont know if I can help you but here goes: You pay MIT money to go there. You get paid money to work. However, as you probably already know, comp sci is a great major at the top stem school of the united states. I also suggest you spend a little bit of your time looking into quantum computers in the future.

    when applying for grad school do they take into account what your major is, because for chemistry they say the avg gpa is like a 2.98. So what would schools like Stanford or MIT expect for you're gpa to be when applying for a masters in chemistry or chemE?

    How do you look for scholarships to apply to?
    How do you look for clubs to join?
    What do you do after moving in (as an international student)….😬 like do you just stay there and stare at the walls?😂 or you go out of your room… somewhere???🤷‍♀️😂

    • @anyone1111
      @anyone1111 3 роки тому +2

      Usually opening doors in your dorm or befriending roommates helps to make friends.
      Look on the schools site to see clubs and what interests you. Either in your major or just an interest. Maybe both of you can handle it. If your school has volunteering then that too can help with friends and you do fun stuff too but for good!
      Try searching up college scholarships or ask maybe your advisor or the advising career center.
      Best of luck to you especially as an international student. Have fun and make it the best you can!

    Hi, Nina, if you don't mind me asking, are you majoring in pure CS + math? I mean, in my very humble opinion, math major doesn't have that many career choices other than math+econ, so I'm pretty uncertain about majoring in math. Thanks!

    • @jameshizon4861
      @jameshizon4861 3 роки тому +2

      You can find her (and me) on LinkedIn. She has Data Science and Business Analytics focus. Also I have Applied Math focused on data analytics degree with data engineering bootcamp combo since I did not want to go for MS. Hope this helps in regards to possible options! If you want to do math, think about what your outcome is. Like do you want to be a math teacher, professor, mathematician, etc.? How much time are you willing to spend in school and for what salary? Just other questions to think about. :)

    Sorry im from Scotland, what exactly is a gpa at college, When we finish our degrees we just get a first, 2.1, 2.2, 3rd or a fail

    • @blonded5861
      @blonded5861 3 роки тому +2

      GPA stands for grade point average. It's a scoring system that takes the average of the grades you receive across the different classes you take throughout college. I'm not sure what the conversion is like to First, 2.1, 2.2 etc. but I presume something like a 3.8+ would be a first, a 3.5 would be a 2.1 so on and so forth. GPAs are usually scored out of 4.0 but technically you can get more than a 4.0 depending on how your GPA is calculated

    • @Samantha_22
      @Samantha_22 3 роки тому +1

      Ok thanks Yh for a first it’s 70% or above, 2.1 60-69%, 2.2 is 50-59% and a third is 40-49% anything below is a fail. And i guess it’s like the gpa, we get a mark for each piece of coursework or exam and they average it.
