To everyone wondering how she got into MIT and not into smaller colleges: it's because colleges often reject applicants that have better stats than their students because they know they're going to get into better schools and turn down the college even if they're accepted.

Asian-americans actually have lower acceptance than other nationalities even when they have the same credentials and grades and everything. Research suggests it is because there is a steorotype that all asians get good grades, therefore an asian with good grades isn't anything new.

A lot of schools will defer, waitlist, or even reject applicants that they believe won't chose their school because they are either overqualified (and will probably pick a higher-ranking school), are out of state, OR do not seem to match the culture of the school. Based off of her reaction to some of the less prestigious/state schools, she didn't seem too invested in them anyways, which probably means she didn't put as much effort into those essays. Colleges are all run like businesses and they want to accept the best applicants who will actually chose to attend (otherwise the acceptance rates will be too high).

Because there's an unwritten (or written?) rule that college admissions set the bar higher for Asians to limit their population, but a few schools decided to not artificially create separate criteria based on race. There are other examples of Asian kids who got 1580 out of 1600 on their SATs, were valedictorians, were involved in lots of extracurricular activities, yet were rejected at every Ivy League college, but luckily had a colorblind admissions college like UC Berkeley to "fall back" on. In any case, I'm sure MIT, UCLA, and Berkeley will be glad to take her. The other schools' loss is their gain.

If you’re out of state u have a good shot at UCLA as long as ur scores are good
In the uk you’re only allowed to apply to 5, then after they have accepted/rejected you you have to pick a firm (1st) and insurance (2nd) choice. Then they can still reject you in August if your exam results aren’t good enough 😭 Congrats on MIT!
In my country you can apply yo 10 but if you get in your 1st choice, there's not going back unless you wait a year to apply again.

In our country you can apply to as many as your affluent family will let you. You can be coached for standarized tests for years for large amt of $$. You can also apply and not check the box for needing financial aid, letting most schools without huge endowments know you will pay full freight. Its all about the $.
that´s probably the reason why oxford and cambridge have a higher acceptance rate than the ivy schools.

When you apply to schools, receiving a small letter is usually a no. So when it's a big packet like that of USC you know you got in.
Congratulations. College admission is random. I went to MBA at MIT. I only applied to three schools. I got rejected at Umich business school but was offered a full scholarship to MIT Sloan. Go figure.

My cousin John graduated last summer first in his class with valedictorian. When he took the act, he got a 35. they told if he took the test again, and got a 36, he could get a full ride to University of Southern California. So, he took it again and got the 36. Now, he’s in California at University of Southern California majoring in neuroscience to be a brain surgeon. I’m pretty proud of him and I definitely want to follow in his foot steps!

There's nothing wrong with going to a community college. I go to a technical college for Information Technology Associates Degree and it's the best thing I could have possibly done. 4 year universities tack on so much worthless shit that you don't need that it's just extra tuition to pay for and unnecessary student debt. My 2 year community college, in its 1st year, had already been teaching me about Windows Server Administration, C++, Java, Python coding, Linux basics, and introduction to Cisco Switching and Routing. Now in my 2nd year, I'm getting deeper into switching and routing, SQL fundamentals, you get the jist. It's shit I'm actually going to be using. And the community college is by no means some nationally acclaimed college.
I would go to USC mainly Bc of the packaging
