I lost my husband two years ago this week. I made a journal for his memory included all his driving licences, work sheets old medical cards and all pieces of stuff that had his hand writing on I found it very therapeutic and I can’t look through it when feeling low. @sallyrose4711 yes! All the little things as you've mentioned that have no other place to go than in a shoe box, put lovingly into a meaningful place. A lot of people don't know what to do with licenses, payslips etc and often they are discarded in favour of photos. Objectively, this is simply a stunning journal. Very well thought out, cohesive, a beautiful balance of feminine and masculine. Just gorgeous. But when you hear the story that goes with it, it becomes everything and more. It's love and hugs in art form. A true treasure, and hopefully it will bring much comfort to its new owner.
Would you consider a video on the construction of the cover and clasp? I've had similar ideas, but can't work my head around the how. Thanks again for sharing! Glad she loved it!
If I can gather enough rulers I will 🤗💛 but in the mean time. 1. I got my Dad to cut the hinges off with his bandsaw 2. I roughly sanded the side I was to glue down. 3. I cut a piece of Matt board (or chipboard) 4. I covered this board with paper 5. I glued the rulers down using heavy pva wood glue and put weights on top for 24hours. The leather and clasp etc is a little harder to explain but I will film it the next time I put one on my journal 🩷

You are such a sweet soul, Sara-Lee. Watching your videos inspires me, but calms and centers me, too. I started creating journals again after I lost my mother and sister to Covid in 2021. They died within 10 hours of each other, and our remaining little family was just gutted. It is still hard to find joy in anything. Momma was a genealogist, a passion we shared, but I just didn't have the heart to do it without her to share that with me anymore. We shared so many interests and crafts that I found it difficult to go back to any of those. I was watching another artist's video of a flip-through and something sparked inside me. It now is just about the only thing that brings me joy. Your friend is a very lucky woman in one regard, in that she has such a tremendous friend in you. This makes me cry…it is just perfect. I would like to make this for my father . I have a lot of his military papers and old photos. This is the best journal I have ever seen. I can see your heart in it and I know some of the spots on the papers are from your tears.

The wonderful mix of M/F was delightfully balanced, which I know from experience is hard to do. You nailed it! I really struggle creating for men, but creating a journal about a man for a woman would be daunting. I’m sure your friend will treasure her new journal, and I pray she finds healing as she fills up this thoughtful keepsake. I really love the idea of writing notes of instruction throughout along with refills. That helps solve the problem when creating for a someone outside the creative community.

I'll share my idea with you (hopefully i explain it clear enough) a double sided journal that ends in the middle, one side masculine, then turn the book upside down and start from the opposite direction and it's feminine! Imagine as a journal for parents, one side for dad and the other for mum, or grandparents, or a son and a daughters childhood memories 🥰

Perhaps you could start by making the journal, and add to it when you feel you can. Perhaps you start by making it in her favourite colour? My thoughts are with you, hugs 🩷🩷🩷

This makes me cry…it is just perfect. I would like to make this for my father . I have a lot of his military papers and old photos. This is the best journal I have ever seen. I can see your heart in it and I know some of the spots on the papers are from your tears.

The wonderful mix of M/F was delightfully balanced, which I know from experience is hard to do. You keep second guessing yourself because we make journals mostly for female customers and doing anything more masculine seems either too harsh or not "manly" enough. Thank you for your kind thoughts and insight into this journal. My grandson was killed in a motorcycle accident a short time before his birthday this year. My son is having a very hard time and maybe this can help him. When he passed away I found out that he had a favorite flower. Begonias.
I cannot even begin to imagine the pain your son must be going through 🥹💔 my son is my whole world and I honestly don't know what I would do without him. I can only hope your son can find some peace in your grandsons memories. Grief is so much harder when it's someone who left us too early. You nailed it! I really struggle creating for men, but creating a journal about a man for a woman would be daunting. I’m sure your friend will treasure her new journal, and I pray she finds healing as she fills up this thoughtful keepsake. I really love the idea of writing notes of instruction throughout along with refills. That helps solve the problem when creating for a someone outside the creative community.

I'll share my idea with you (hopefully i explain it clear enough) a double sided journal that ends in the middle, one side masculine, then turn the book upside down and start from the opposite direction and it's feminine! Imagine as a journal for parents, one side for dad and the other for mum, or grandparents, or a son and a daughters childhood memories 🥰
