  • A catch-up tutorial for my students in IADT. Watch this as an example of how I work - your bouncing ball will probably be very different.

    I created the squash and stretch by animating the scale values.

      Great to hear! I think I made this in Camtasia. You can turn on keyboard actions and edit them.

    when I delete the breakdown keys, like at 7:57 , it deletes what I did with them. Making them no longer slowdown at the top. How can I fix that?

    • @artSqoolType
      @artSqoolType  3 роки тому

      No need to delete them if you are happy with the animation. I deleted the keys there to show another approach.

    Hi there, im doing your tutorial but my graph editor has sharp right angled lines for the timeline, any idea how to make it so that it is a smooth curve?

    • @artSqoolType
      @artSqoolType  9 років тому

      SD Mattos Perhaps your tangent type is set to linear or even stepped? Select some of those keypoints in graph editor and go to tangent / spline. If this helps you can also change the default tangent type in animation preferences to "auto", flat or spline.

  • @AlienLiaru2

    Please help, I can't make it so only selected tangents become linear, it makes all of them linear when I click that buton

    • @artSqoolType
      @artSqoolType  7 років тому +1

      Are you selecting the tangents or key points? If you select key points it should work. Or you could skip that step and go directly to unlocking the tangent handles.

    i not sure how u do the squash and strech in graph editor by edit the point and so on cause u didnt show , i know to edit the scale but can u show how to do it graoh editor?hope u see my comment thanks

      Hi, on a simple setup like this it makes sense to animate the scale values in Viewport. It's not a proper squash and stretch anyway, just a quick demo. In Maya you can't rotate the object freely if you play around with scale values. You'd need a separate node for squashing and another for rotating parented to it.

    Don't just scale it for squash and stretch, you really should be rigging up a ball designed to squash stretch and roll, which all have variable pivot points (the ball squashes on the base of contact and rolls from the centre.) Using scale parameters is not the right way to go because this will affect your spacing. Also never animate geometry, you want to animate NURBS controllers. Animating purely on geometry is not how 3D animation is designed to work.

      Totally. I give this exercise to students who have animated balls in 2D, pencil on paper. I want to keep the exercise as simple as possible, but someone always asks how they could add squach and stretch.

    I followed the instructions and everything... But it doesn't squash and stretch at all... It just jumps? Please help!
