Among other things, "Russian Christmas Music" shows what a master orchestrator Alfred Reed was. Everybody has a good part and all voices are used appropriately (definitely not just a matter of finding an available instrument to play at the desired pitch). And the result is something that gives me tingles just about every time I hear it.

One of my favorite pieces of band literature ever. I get chills every time I listen to it. I am so thankful I had the privilege to play such a beautiful piece.

Ahh.. I am so glad I found this song. Brings back great memories. I played second horn and in one rehearsal the first horn and I blacked out from using too much air at the end... Good times. :D

the finale around the 11 minute mark is where it's at for me. Especially those building brass statements. This is a magnificent piece of music!

The ending of this piece was hell for us flutes, but boy, was it worth it. My career in wind ensembles pretty much boils down to this piece.

there's something about playing saxophone on a piece like this that really makes you envy the power of the brass

I think besides the pieces being amazing by them-selves, Alfred Reed's works all seem to have these really really great endings, I mean really like the ending here sounds so cool!!! It's even better to play of course lol!
