So somewhat similar story although it might not sound like it. My sister has both hearing and vision impairments that significantly affect the way she lives her life yet when she was little she got rejected from both the school for the deaf and school for the blind because she wasn’t deaf or blind enough according to them but they basically referred my mom to each other. Like so wtf is “deaf enough” or “blind enough” then
This was the EXACT issue I faced when I had to move to a new city for a promotion. Near 75% of the apartments were low income only, which I couldn't qualify for. Everything else was $1200+ a month for rent alone. Some also had media packages that you could not opt out of, so cable and internet was something you had to pay for regardless if you were gonna use it or not.
I remember when I was looking for my first apartment in 2014, my first time learning about credit was after I spent 7 months saving so I can get a studio apartment. Kept applying to apartments but wasn't getting any calls back. Only to realize I needed a 610 credit score. I've never had a credit card before and my base credit was at 560. Took me a year to be able to get a credit card and 3 years to get to 610. Shit is madness.
