I have Octomore 10.2 56.9 ABV, aged 8 years and 96.9 PPPM. A friend who has tasted several Octomores commented that this is one of the most balanced and well-rounded Octomores he tasted.
Eventually when the 3 bottles I have are just about finished I'll try and get another one and compare them. At the rate I'm drinking these it will be at least another 2 years.
we had drastically different experiences with the 13.1 The first one I had was absolutely phenomenal. A bacon filled bbq feast in your mouth with a finish that goes on forever. The 2nd bottle of 13.1 was very good but nothing near the first. Going to let it air for a bit and go back to it in the future and see how it develops. I haven't opened my 14.1 yet. Been buying so many Irish and bourbons I have not picked up much scotch at all the last 8-10 months
That’s peaty and I’m impressed you can actually detect other notes with it being this high in peat. I’m still struggling with peat but I’m trying. Enjoy!!
Good video Peter. I like the less peated whiskey like Ardnamurchan and the mid peated Ledaig. As far as the series I would love to see more Irish whiskey. IE like two stacks, Tyrconnell, and Dunville (etc, etc).
Just a clarification ppm is parts per million. I thought you said phenol per million which is technically correct. The ppm acronym was commonly used in the lab. Yes I spend 42 years working in and running various labs.
Got it. I think I am leaning to a rotating line up of Irish, Scotch, American, Bourbon and rye. That way I am no locked into one type of whisk(e)y for an extended period of time and I can also throw in a new release and do a review and let people know what I think before they spend the money.
Hi Peter, thank you for another wonderful review of a heavily peated single malt scotch. I have to say, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t more than a little jealous of your single malt collection. 😉 As a heavily peated, sherry finished single malt scotch lover, and a lover of everything Bruichladdich, I think you’ve convinced me to shell out for an Octomore xx.2 finally
I heard/seen a lot of good reviews about Octomore, but never saw any available to purchase until the 13.1, 13.2 and the 13.3 showed up at my local Total Wine. I could not pass them up even though they are way too expensive. I am slowly making my way through the 3 bottles and will probably be ready for another set in about 2 years. So I looked at it as a 2 to 3 year investment to justify my purchase. If and when you get one please let me know what you think of it.
Do a Kavalan Solist each Monday. There are enough different cask types to have 4 or more episodes. I think that the Solist is just called the Cask Strength in the States.
I like where you heads at! That was my very first series on the channel 2 years ago. I have come full circle. I am leaning towards a rotating lineup. Hit a different type of whisk(e)y each Monday.
Never really tried a heavily peated whisky! This might be my sign to get one and try it. I can't really afford this one though. Would you recommend Port Charlotte 10 to start? It's less than 60$ here in Barcelona. Cheers!
paused to comment before the review....ive had a dram of two octomores but i cant remember exactly which ones.........anyway, i loved both and easily top 3 peated whiskeys, port charlotte wins so far closely by laphroiag because both are at great prices vs octomore.
Non scotch peated. Non scotch single malts. Region vs Region. Works for several styles. Inter region. For the record, I've a good cold. So I'm sipping a Newfoundland whisky. It's all sweetness. Signal Hill, Founders Reserve if you're curious.
@whiskeyisajourney that's another slippery slope. Luckily for me, not a huge fan of Irish or Japanese. The Canadian whiskeys you get are probably all basic batch.
What about doing different countries on Monday's... like 4 or 5, English, Japanese, Indian, Australian, New Zealand, or lesser know Whisky countries then at the end of 4 or 5 blind them find ya favourite from each then ya could do world wide Whisky blind with the winners from each of the countries and see who comes out on top.... Just an idea cheers Peter 🥃🥃🥃

That sounds nice. 8 year 96.9 PPM. Cheers!
I have this bottle stashed away for a special occasion :) Cheers!
It's a good special occasion bottle to have. Cheers!
Haven't had the 13.1 but the 14.1 reacted the same way for me with water, I prefer it neat.

Way to be whisk(e)y promiscuous! I like it. Cheers!

Stick with it. You will hopefully break through the peat wall and find other notes soon.

An independent bottler series would cool as well 🥃🥃🥃
I like that idea, but as of right now I think I only have 3 IB.

I had the Octomore 14.1
What did you think of it? Worth the money?

I'm not sure I get the Solist in my area, but I'll look for them. Thanks for the suggestion.
How about American single malt series?

The Port Charlotte 10yr is one of the best peated single malts for the money. Go for it!
Absolutely recommend the Port Charlotte 10.
Love all your videos.
Thanks so much! I appreciate it. Cheers!
Blending Monday. Maybe start mastering your blending skills with all the goodies you have
Thanks for the suggestion. Blending sounds fun.
Can probably guess my thoughts on this.

Price is definitely a factor with Octomore and for the money Port Charlotte is a winner! Cheers!

All good ideas. I need to explore more international offerings. Cheers!

I like that idea as well!
It's fantastic but super expensive now...
The price is definitely a deterrent. Cheers!
Always without water or ice!!! bare as the day i was born haha....jk each to there own.
Neat is the way I lean. Not all the time, but most of the time. Cheers!
