I have the 14.1 it is a bit $$$$ and was not going to get it, but then I got to taste it; I didn't hesitate after the tasting. Worth the $$$ unless it hurts the wallet, there are plenty of wonderful scotches out there much more affordable.
Thanks for posting the Octomore tasting video! I went to Scotland in 2009 as a bourbon & rye drinker and did a blind tasting various Scotches and the peated ones ended up being my favorite! The 2 that I liked most were the Laphroiag and Lagavulin and years later I discovered the Octomore. Due to it’s price, I only have a bit once in a while, but it’s one of my favorites.
Great video. The Octomore 13 was released at the Nashville whiskey festival last september. All who sampled it ( and it was being poured rather liberally) loved it.
Octomore Legend X.1 = Uses barely from anywhere in Scotland X.2 = Finished in barrels other than bourbon X.3 = Uses barely form Islay only X.4 = partially aged in new oak 13.xx Batch release. The X.3 tend to have a more smoky taste than the X.1 series. It also costs more because it is difficult to grow barely on Islay.
Oh cool, Octomore blind! Was just at Bruichladdich with IBN, and it was bucket list stuff from beginning to end. Tasted an Octomore single barrel, snagged a vial to bring home, and picked up a bottle of 13.4, which is distillery exclusive. I was shocked at how the peat smoke and brine meshes so well with all sorts of other flavors in both. Totally worth £170 for the bottle IMO but not an every day sipper for sure.
Classic reaction to a peated whisky. When you get to the 13.2 sample it is 137.3 PPM, 58.3% ABV, Oloroso Cask. When you guys try it please let me know what you think of it.
Will do! We're back from Chicago and into the swing of things. We're likely to get into it sooner rather than later out of sheer curiosity after trying 13.1.
Great review, thanks guys👍 I think you should try the Lagavulin 12 years old special release, especially the 2021 edition (with a lion on the label). If you ever get a chance to buy a bottle, don’t hesitate!
I could nose and have this delicious scotch on my palette over and over! What a dance and a symphony! Outstanding!! I love all Islay scotch and that includes the iodiney and briney!! It is mood specific - great point. I think I have fallen madly in love with all elements of peated scotch. But I absolutely understand the iodine isn't a profile that everyone can love. I think this scotch is worth the price and it is sadly more in Canada. Octomore is amazing! This may be my favourite Octomore. The 13.2 and 13.3 are also fabulous! Wow you like it more when you know what it is? Interesting! Cheers!
Forgot to mention now I'm picturing Josh working on some car audio subwoofer enclosures with pink Juicy sweatpants. Great Josh has got the booty to fill those sweatpants out. ha ha.
The cost makes this something I wouldn’t buy though I’m a big scotch fan I came across a macallan 15 year that I got a deal on and couldn’t pass it up. Having said that I’m not a fan of heavy peat arberg is like putting a charcoal briquette and chewing it in my mouth. And I have a pretty forgiving palette but heavy peat just isn’t in my wheelhouse. Great content keep it up!!
I personally don’t think the .1 of their releases are worth it, but .2 and .3, for me, are. The 13.2 which is aged in Oloroso Sherry casks, is one of my favorite whiskeys; fabulous nose and pallet.
220! Cool bottle, but I'll just stick to my Ardbeg and Laphroaig. BTW, craving salt can be a sign of dehydration aaaaand since I've never seen you all rate your favorite filtered waters, I have a feeling that might be the issue - saved you a doctor's visit lol. Great review, love the blind taste-testing, especially when Josh admits he would buy the bottle for the bottle, not what's inside afterward lol Thanks and keep it up :)
Thanks for the info. Is it possible when reviewing peated products that you display the parts per million that many distillers put on their labels or on their website? Keep up the great content !
It's been quite elevated. but I simply can't justify spending $150 or $250 on everything that costs that much. We all know price climbs faster than taste enjoyment and that the sweet spot for scotch is in the $50 to $90 price bracket. Anything more than that and the flavor profile has to AT LEAST be in your own wheelhouse. And frankly, it should have the makings of an elevated, complex, take you on a journey type of pour.
Islay scotch is the best, never had octomore. Laphroig and Ardbeg are the best, especially laphroig cask strength and the Ardbeg corryvreckan and uigeadail.
I love peat, but I haven't tried any of the Octomore releases yet. It is rather hard to find, and I haven't seen it in the local bars. Considering the price, it would be best to try it before buying. Bottles that are over $200 need to have something unique going on for me to consider them worth the price.
In the event you were ever willing to to try any scotch blind I cannot recommend Octomore highly enough. Lagavulin 16 used to be my favorite scotch and the waiter at a high end steak restaurant told me I might like Octomore. I will now drink any Octomore over any other scotch at any price point.
$220 for 13.1 is if you're lucky to find it at that price online before shipping. I saw it in Total Wine by me months ago and with all the tariffs etc it was $309 before tax. 13.3 was $339. OctloLESS for me unless I hit the Powerball.
Two questions: what’s story behind shirt, and what system, app, database, setup do you use on your phone for blind samples that you are referring to when checking sample number prices and names ?
Hey Warren, we use a really simple Google Forms page with dropdown boxes. The title of each box shows the corresponding key number and price, and we have to click the dropdown to see what the pour is. For the shirt, that one's easy--our faith is a big part of our lives. ua-cam.com/video/R8MZbl-GRdY/v-deo.html
@@stuffandwhiskey thanks for answers. As an Ordained clergy person (now newly retired) I appreciate the balance you hold for deep faith and the alchemy of whiskey. Keep up the great content.
2 questions. 1. What is the Holy Ghost shirt? 2. God forbid but if something happens to Josh can I ask Erin out on a date… after a respectful time of mourning??? RESPECT
You lucky duckies I've been wanting to try octomor for a while! There are some affordable peated Scotch whiskeys like Scarabus cask strength for under $40 and Islay Gold Lorcan is delicious. So funny what's a professional whiskey Som. I don't think she thought your joke about the sweatpants was funny haha. Shake that juicy booty 😂. Erin could be the writer for some of these whiskeys like the ocean water putting out a campfire boom that's professional if I ever heard a description.
Octomore is very hit or miss for me. I see it quite often on shelves. But the price they're charging for young Scotch is kind of crazy. Some of the releases have older age statements, but I can't justify the prices on a 5 year old bottle.
I freaking laughed out loud when Erin "jones'd away" the rest of Josh's sample. Hilarious !!

Top tier comment. Thanks so much for the info!
This isn't quite right. .3 Octomore is not only Islay only barley, it is from ONE single farm owned by the Brown family.
Isn't 1 farm on Islay, Islay only and thus right? You may have added more detail but the original statement is still correct.@@es330td
“Thumbs up, down there” callback to the first blooper reel!😂
You get us! 😂 Cheers ISDP!
The after comments are as informative as the main video . And the comment about the honey mustard for fry's was spot on .
Agreed. We try to include those every time that we can as we feel they're pretty telling. Cheers and thanks for watching Walt!

I love your videos. The blind format is so awesome! Also i just found a bottle of octomore 13.3 and had to buy. Cant wait to see you try that sample!

Erin, have you tried Talisker, Springbank, and Glen Scotia? They might appeal to your taste for saltiness.
And Josh in Juicy sweats? 😂
I'm sipping the Lagavulin 12 Year Old 2022 Special Release, courtesy of having been Gunderstruck with a sample. Oh my, is it nice!
We haven’t but they’re on our short list. And admittedly this one went a bit off the rails. 😂
I personally don’t think the .1 of their releases are worth it, but .2 and .3, for me, are. The 13.2 which is aged in Oloroso Sherry casks, is one of my favorite whiskeys; fabulous nose and pallet.
Please, tell us more about it :D I just found out about octo :)

Gotta keep it real, and gotta get to producing some filtered and/or bottled water content! 😂 Cheers!
The 13.1 is fantastic and while I wish it were $150 paid $220 for it twice.
I Love salt, with my tequila, pizza, egg salad sandwich, salt and vinegar chips and on my brownie’s, Cheers

The .3’s are always the best. It is pricey, but gosh… I’ve bought some terrible whisky that had much less going on!
Islay scotch is the best, never had octomore. Laphroig and Ardbeg are the best, especially laphroig cask strength and the Ardbeg corryvreckan and uigeadail.

😂😂 It was pretty early on actually. Just a fun byproduct of good moods and good pours. Cheers and thanks for watching!

Erin you need to realize that you have a very good palate. Just because you cannot always describe the pour your taste is often right on.
$220 for 13.1 is if you're lucky to find it at that price online before shipping. I saw it in Total Wine by me months ago and with all the tariffs etc it was $309 before tax. 13.3 was $339. OctloLESS for me unless I hit the Powerball.
While I generally agree with you, I found 13.1 for $209 in small, local store and got 13.3 for $255, including shipping.
@@peterpete5848 nice to hear man!!! Oh that is great to hear that you were able to get the Octomore 13 way under $300. You won out imo.

Did Erin say Josh is Thiiick? I think so. Juicy 😂
😂😂
Erin is Scottish for sure!!! I can't do the peat! Campfire bandaid flavor. Scotch and me will never get along.

The power of advertising and word of mouth is interesting.

The age statement is one of the more shocking things about this one considering the price.
PEATY WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
Dang....a bit over 100PPM of peat than Lag 16....shut the front door
TIL Josh is a THICC big booty dad joke.
Basically. 😂
I love salt.
Are you guys lucky or unlucky? Lucky to get such whiskeys or unlucky that you only get 1oz? 🤪
I agree with ADHD
No peat ever?
Too many good bourbons and not enough time too waste on Scotch IMO. 🥃
Sounds great to me but $$$$$😢
We’re with you Debby!
