    I bought the same model number Pelican case (1520) for my most prized pocket knives and your tips on how to set up the foam were very helpful. Much appreciated. Happy Memorial Day. Thanks!

    I made something similar to this out of some old hilti/bosch drill cases that my former employer gave to me. I used a 3/8" insulating foam board to line them with and cut the shapes out of that. Then put a spandex material over that for some extra padding and to make it look tidier. Turned out pretty decent and I put a glass in one and dropped the case onto concrete and it was fine so I know they work as intended. I think I might buy one one of these though...I would have used that style of foam if I knew where to get it at the time!

    Thanks so much for this tutorial! I just got my first case by Nanuk, similar to a Pelican, but I bought the pick n pluck foam that comes with Pelican cases separate after reading some bad comments on Nanuk’s foam. I didn’t even think about cutting the foam squares part way down so as not to use the entire depth. Thanks again!

    Nice little tutorial! I ordered a Pelican 1500 a few days ago, I am eagerly waiting for the mail man now, should be here anytime soon. I am going to use it for my knife collection... or at lest my current 30ish folders (It likely will be able to hold around 40) and one of my fixed blades that is a bit more delicate (Katesune Nishiki). I just got so tired of spending half an hour getting all of my knives into a backpack in a way they are secure and wont get all scratched up.

    Great demonstration. I have a rather large collection of small limited addition swiss army knives and want to display them in a pelican case.
    That pick and pluck foam had me puzzled.
    I invisioned plucking each little individual square with something like a small pair of tweezers.
    I like this way much better.
    Easily explained.
    Thx

    I got a similar pelican case, plucked the foam out, fitted my camera but i feel like the foam is going to come apart easy, i want a snug fit so every time i pull the cam out it pulls the foam with it, should i spray the foam with Plasti Dip so the pieces stay together and don't come apart, also what type of glue would you recommend to keep the foam in the case?

      You really should. They have every conceivable size of case from memory card size to almost-big-enough-to-fit-a-twelve-year-old-girl size (I made a bet with my kid that she couldn't get all the way into my Pelican 1640, she almost made it.).

    That looks great.. I wonder if the camera should of gone in the middle so the weight is more centralised and not to one side.. donno.. the whole case seems heavy anyway but I wouldn't know, seems easier to just have the camera in the corner though when positioning everything else.

    If you feel that the toothpicks are not big enough try using skewers, they work well also if you feel you need a little bigger size to handle. They are a few cent more in price than toothpicks, a couple of dollars. LOL. 🐢👍😃

  • @PirateJohnson
    @PirateJohnson 8 років тому +3

    Wouldn't you want all the contents to stickup to an even level to provide an even, thus more secure, fit. It looks as if the rest of you stuff may have room to move, thanks to the crapple pad. It would only be bouncing between 2 pieces of foam, but it should be considered if you're putting in something other than photography gear that may be a container with a PopOff lid possibly containing liquid, such as liquid samples.

    PRO TIP: Best way to make sure your case doesn't get lost at the airport is to put a gun in there and check it as a firearm. They will make sure you get your case if there is a gun in it.

      +John Tran As in knock out of it's case??? HTF would you transport ammo within the US? CAN it be mailed or ordered as a home delivery from online? I've never known any1 to do it, so I'm really wondering now. Saw plenty of hunting shows where some1 would travel to Alaska with their Rifle, but I 1/2 expected them to own a private jet, TBH.
