Gluten free bagels just aren’t the same & dairy free cheese 🤮 I’m feeling very envious of of you 😂 why people would choose to make their life miserable and avoiding food they like is crazy to me.

    I tried this when I was in my early 20s and had an eating disorder, because I knew I wouldn't be able to eat enough to get many calories. It was absolutely awful and rather expensive. Literally worse than eating almost nothing for weeks on end. I've just got almost to the end of (normal, cooked food, protein replacements, decent amount of food, B12 supplement) veganuary and it was surprisingly easy. Probably because I was doing it for better reasons and more sustainably. I don't think I'll be a strict vegan the day after tomorrow but it's been a good experience and helped me realize how I can cut down on animal products when I want to. This raw veganism and fruitarian shit ain't it.

    The digestive issues from a raw diet is what would kill me. This reminds me of the paleo diet minus the meat. you can make a vegan raw cheese by soaking raw cashews overnight, blitzing them up in the blender, then filtering the solids from the liquid. the solid is the cheese once mixed with a bit of lemon juice and herbs and the liquid is your cashew milk for the week.

      @@matane2465 According to who? My sister has been on a carnivore only diet going on 5 years now. She thinks she's the healthiest she's ever been but she's depressed and tired all the time, she looks sick, her face is all sunken in and her hair is falling out. She blames all this stuff on multiple self diagnosed "autoimmune disorders" and thinks the diet is healing her but she's just getting worse the longer she's on it and didn't have any of those symptoms before she was on the diet. The carnivore community is also strangely cult-like and political. She can't have her own opinion until she consults them.
      Regardless, what I was referring to when I said it sounds like hell in the opposite direction had nothing to do with the healthiness of the diet. If you are on a super restrictive diet where you only eat one type of food for every meal and deny yourself things you would normally eat you're going to get bored with it very fast. The more you deny yourself of foods you love the more hellish it becomes over time which is exactly what the guy in the video experienced. He would not enjoy eating meat for every meal any more than raw vegan.

    Raw veganism scares me actually. It borders on eating disorder level of restriction. I mean, cooking actually makes some vitamins like Lycopene available, and increases the amount of nutrients you can digest because the food is partially digested already.
    This seems like a diet that someone would take if they had absolutely so access to cooking fire or a stove, or someone with an extremely rare digestive issue, or someone with an actual eating disorder.

    • @claritey
      @claritey 11 місяців тому +9

      I think doing these extreme diets are a type of eating disorder on their own but it's much more than that, the communities that promote these diets seem to be cult-like and have certain political leanings and beliefs.
      My sister did raw vegan for 5 years but got out of it because she said the community was very cult like and overly sjw. She went straight to a carnivore diet which she's been doing for the last 4 years. She doesn't think so but from my point of view the carnivore community is not only just as cult like as the raw vegans but she's adopted an insufferable anti-vaxxer, anti-woke, conspiracy theorist worldview along with her crazy diet. If it was actually helping her get to a healthy weight or alleviated her health issues that I could understand sticking with the diet but she looks sick, her face is sunken in and her hair is falling out. She's 4 years younger than me but she looks a lot older.
      The specific carnivore diet she follows was created to be an elimination diet so she could determine what her sensitives are then slowly reintroduce different types of foods, it was never meant to be sustainable long term. It screams eating disorder with her sticking to it this long.

    • @applegal3058
      @applegal3058 11 місяців тому +2

      @@claritey I agree. I think the mindset of the person entering in an extremely restricted diet makes the difference. If the person is susceptible to an eating disorder, then letting go of the control that these diets offer is very difficult.
      As someone with mental health issues mainly related to PTSD, I can see the draw of having control over something when everything else seems to be falling apart. Plus, if I were vulnerable to the draw if a club or group of people who follow the diet, I could possibly start to believe what nonsense they were spewing just to fit in and feel welcomed.
      Every diet, as long as it makes a person feel healthy and doesn't harm a person physically or mentally, is good. Once it becomes obsessive and harms a person, then it's an issue.
      I hope your sister gets the help she needs emotionally and physically and can regain her health again.

  • @SakuraSamael
    @SakuraSamael 11 місяців тому +11

    The basic gist of it was that you needed a lot more protein and fat to offset the lack of calories that you would have been getting from carbs. I'm not focusing on the nutritional deficiency aspect of that, or on how it wouldn't be long-term sustainable, just on the fact that you would have felt a lot fuller for a lot longer during this experiment. (Blending up nuts and oil into sauces/dips for every meal - yes, every! - would have accomplished that, and it would have made the food more interesting in terms of taste.) That said, you are absolutely correct about the cost, the time sink, and how much knowledge it takes to pull it off. Those factors alone would (and should) put off most people.
    However, one thing that I'll note for me personally is that learning vegan cooking (not raw) actually improved my omnivore diet a lot. I know about a dozen ways to substitute an egg and a hundred uses for oatmeal. 😋 Believe it or not, it can be cheaper in many instances, too. (I make a mean lentil burger, and it's dirt cheap compared to beef!) So I think there's merit in experiencing new types of cuisine, even if they're not ideal on their own. You can always steal the best bits of what you've learned and incorporate that in your preferred style of cooking.

Away from the calorie deficit, I would guarantee - as someone who typically eats meat - you weren't getting enough protein, and that much extra fiber at once is taxing. More nuts and grains would've helped you feel more full, and oats can be prepared without cooking. You just soak them overnight in the fridge.

Even if it's not full meal prepping but like, getting vegetables and stuff broken down that can be easy to put into something on the fly. Pickling things so you are getting different flavour profiles. I thought the kimchi and sauerkraut were great ideas but didn't seem like they were used enough. Still probably pretty grim, but prepping stuff ahead would give more time at actual meal time to prep things in interesting ways, whether seasoning or whatever it could be.

    As much as I am not a vegan, I can kind of understand the various ways a vegan diet would appeal to people. The "raw" aspect of this, though, I don't quite understand. What is the point of not allowing yourself to cook your own food, or to use food that has been cooked or heated? That just seems masochistic.

    • @saraquill
      @saraquill 11 місяців тому +1

      Years ago, another UA-camr tried this diet for a week. At the beginning, she interviewed a raw vegan “chef” whose justification was “animals don’t cook. Hence, we shouldn’t either. This ignores how our mouths are adapted to eating cooked things.

    I stopped eating meat nearly 40 years ago. Don't miss it. But, then, wasn't that big of a meat eater to begin with.
    Never in my life, not even living in the US State of Wyoming, where men are men and sheep are afraid, have I been as badly attacked for being a vegetarian as I have been by vegans.
    I don't care what other people eat, my husband lives on meat. I just want to be left alone with my food choices. No doubt there are vegans out there who don't feel the need to attack vegetarians but I've never met a vegan who wasn't a fascist nutjob who demanded other people live by their rules and their rules, alone.

      I have a friend who's vegan for OCD reasons. She has joked a few times that she "doesn't even get to be morally superior!!" about it. She sometimes hopes she can manage her OCD enough to eat meat again (though she says she'll probably never be able to tolerate eggs again lol). So there's at least 1! :D

  • @SusanForeman1963
    @SusanForeman1963 11 місяців тому

    Here in the US, we have something called "sun tea." Which is technically raw because you brew it by sitting it in the sun for nearly a whole day. So you could have had your tea without cheating. You get a BIG clear container with a lid and you place 3-5 tea bags and water inside and then sit it out on the patio. You can add lemon slices if you'd like.
    It's only worth it if you make a big batch because it takes so much longer than boiling water.

    • @SusanForeman1963
      @SusanForeman1963 11 місяців тому

      On second thought, I'm not sure this would work in winter. Maybe set it by a window inside instead.

  • @MemoryAmethyst
    @MemoryAmethyst 9 місяців тому +1

    Raw does not mean just salad and fruit. Make your 25% beans, tea, and a bit entire grains. Also, eat WAY more! You shouldn’t be hungry. Raw is very expensive where I am and in the winter it’s unattainable. Also, ice burg lettuce?? You may as well just drink water. Zero nutrition, flavour and satisfaction.

Tho if you look at people like Raw vegan Christina and Freelee the banana girl and other well known vegans they have much more food in their diets - I think your salads and main meals could have been a lot larger as you were eating very low cal foods…They make interesting sauces etc too but I still think it’s a very hard diet and although I keep meaning to do it for a week or so I still haven’t😂😂😂🇬🇧

    I know someone suggested in comments that you make the 'week on' a 1 video thing. But I prefer the 7 video format better. You must've also noticed that you obviously received more views when split over 7. Would you consider going back to 7? And only edit it into 1 video, just for your paying 'members' to privately view.

    Im not a vegan, let alone a raw vegan haha! And I wouldn't enjoy this challenge but it could have been made so much more tolerable!
    Pico De Gallo with nori as chips (tomatoes, onion, coriander, jalapeño, and lime juice)
    Guac (Avocado, corriander onion, lime juice and salt - if allowed) with nori chips or carrot sticks etc
    Mango salsa (basically the pico de Gallo but with mango as well and could also add capsicum and avo)
    Cheese made by cashew nuts and lemon juice
    frozen nice cream (blended frozen bananas, flavoured with fruit) could even make smoothies and freeze into ice lollies.
    vegan raw cheesecake (could use raw cacao and dates to make a choc version or berries for a berry version)
    peanut butter (could even make a jam with blended berries and lemon juice and a few dates)
    Sushi (which you did but could have made cauliflower rice and added some from of vinegar and liquid aminos if it qualifies)
    I once went to a vegan raw cafe and they served a sprouted bread with coconut bacon could be interesting to make!
    Anything to make it more tolerable otherwise that would have been horrible!!
