    Their mushroom and thyme rissotto is really good as well. One of the nice things is that you get to keep the recipe cards and you can then just make whatever you want afterwards. Just buy the ingredients. I also suggest the mozzerella, tomato jam, zucchinni pannini.

    I tried Hello Fresh recently and it was good to have new meal suggestions. However I just couldn't justify the price. If I took the meal cards and bought the ingredients in Aldi I would have probably spent a third. Also consider what happens if you are not at home when the delivery arrives. Mine was left in the street in the rain ( not Hello Fresh 's fault but still annoying).

      I thought it was like a cooler inside? I heard it was supposed to stay good for the day as long as it’s not in the sun (doesn’t help it getting rained on). But I’ve never ordered before. I’ve been thinking about it for a long time because I’ve never cooked anything before… not even something simple. I feel like it might be worth the price for a beginner like me because of the directions. But I haven’t seen too many vegetarian dishes.

    My friend in work used hello fresh. She brought in leftovers. I had the red lentil & spinach dal. I downloaded the recipe and now make batches of the stuff for myself and my Mum too. So easy and tastes great. Lentils, passata, curry paste, stock, shallots, garlic & spinach. Use mainly frozen bits...so easy...#notspon

    Hello Fresh is good for people who are too busy to go to the market to get groceries or somebody wanting to try out different types of foods or cooking methods.
    For everybody else it's terribly expensive for what you actually get but you keep the recipe cards for when you actually want to make those things on your own.

    😩 As a chef I’m crying, screaming about the Risotto, you’re supposed to have a separate pot of warm broth and add it in one cup at a time while stirring until it’s all absorbed, then repeat. It takes about 20-30 minutes for the Risotto.

      I feel the exact same way. Pot of hot stock simmering on the stove and adding it in slowly until it thickens, rinse and repeat until its a creamy texture, then add in a generous amount of butter and some hard cheese such as parmisan. A little bit of effort but totally worth it. Risotto also reheats well so I make enough for 2 nights and just reheat in the microwave

      @10191927 2 роки тому +2

      @@cazzadeathgirl - I soak Porcini mushrooms in the warmed broth to rehydrate, so I get a rich mushroom stock and add that to the Risotto, then I remove the porcini mushrooms and chop then add to the finished risotto. It’s wonderful.

    I did Hello Fresh for a while but like a lot of comments, it was difficult to justify the cost for me personally although most of the dishes were really tasty. As it's just me, I would buy the 3 meal box and get 6 days out of it, but like you found with the risotto, some recipes I could definitely get a third portion from. Looking forward to catching up on the rest of the week so far!

    You have to try a "real" risotto in a good restaurant! It is so delicious! There is a big difference in the preparation for a genuine risotto. It's made on the stovetop only and liquid is added in small amounts at a time on low to med. with constant stiring. It makes for a much creamy consistency.😊

    Some of these are high effort and can take up to 45 minutes. Me: hides the beef ragu that I simmered for 8 hours, and the potato terrine that I spent 1hour on preparing, 2 hours on cooking and 14 hours of chilling. Yes I might be a chef but these 2 are quite simple they just take time.

    That's defo not the way I cook Risotto? Or seen it cooked this way lol. Normal Risotto you gradually add the stock in small stages and wait till the rice absorbs it and then add some more and keep doing it until all the stock is gone and rice cooked perfectly. To me this is just baked rice not really Risotto - a bit of false advertising lol

    I used them to learn cooking after 51 years. :D You can at first totally focus on the preparation of the meals without having to shop for everything yourself. The quality of everything was pretty good and I actually now enjoy preparing my own meals, after a day of scripting stuff it's great to "come down".
    I did it for the last four months and now am ending it, this week will actually be the last packet. From now on I'll re-cook my favourite stuff from them and also try other dishes. That's another thing with HF - keep the instructions and you end up with your own cooking book and you know how everything in there tastes. :)

    I've never really seen the appeal of Hello Fresh to be honest. I've looked into it a few times but I just don't see who its really for. Because I mean if you like cooking, there's lots of easy recipes online and in books etc and you could just order your ingredients online on any supermarket website or even Deliveroo so the convenience isn't really there either. Then there's the cost so it doesn't really save money either. If anything I do like that its all portioned to avoid waste but other than that I am just not sold on it. Could just use a meal prep company and have everything done for you.

    • @commanderkruge
      @commanderkruge 2 роки тому +4

      I found they've been the perfect way for me (surely not for everybody) to finally learn cooking at over 30 years of ready made and fast food meals. I was able to focus on the cooking part at first without having to worry and coordinate where to get what from. If you have never done that before, it can seem a bit overwhelming. (I know, 1st world problems, right?).
      Now I have a cooking book full of meals I know I *can* cook and what they taste like and I re-cook whole meals or parts of them with self bought stuff. I learned a bunch of things I can now do from the top of my head, without instructions - like making some quick salad sauces that actually taste nice. I learned some tiny things right along with the rest - like giving sunflowerseeds a short roast in the pan before you put them in a salad. Yum.
      And last week I cooked my first two "non HF meals" with recepies from the net.
      I used them 4 months or so, the cost is somewhere between buying everything yourself and ordering out, quality is good. So for me it totally had a use. :)
      IF, however, cooking isn't something new for you and you also have the time to shop yourself and where to get stuff and all that there isn't really a reason for the service, that's true. Except maybe for trying out meals without having to buy some bulk ingredients you then have to throw away, because it turns out you don't like it at all.

    I just recently got hello fresh for the first time this past week. Got 4 meals and 2 of them were really good and 2 of them were average. Disappointingly, they left out certain ingredients that were supposed to be included with some of these meals, and they also gave us chicken instead of pork for some reason on one of them (also one of the chicken packets got pierced during shipping and made the things in the box all sticky). Seems like a quality control issue. Not saying this happens to everyone, but that was my experience with them :/

    when you look at the 2 people for 4 days is almost £40. making each day being £10. I am very sure if you just go buy the items yourself you will be able to make 3 meals a day for 2 for £10
    May be you should set a £10 a day budget for 2 to 3 meals as a challenge.

    I wish I could afford Hello Fresh, but it's definitely not for low income families. It's more of a luxury service. I did, however, take one of the recipes from their website and buy the ingredients myself (at a much lower cost) and make it. It was the "Classic Beef Chili" recipe and it was absolutely delicious. I thought using Poblano peppers would make it too spicy, but it was very well balanced.
    I would actually recommend anyone thinking of using this service to instead go to the Hello Fresh recipes page, make a list of meals for the week, then just go buy the stuff yourself. It's a tiny bit more work, but it's hundreds of dollars cheaper.
