    “THERES A WHITETAIL ANIMAL!” Haha I lost it, y’all are so informative and flat out hilarious. Hunted public for the first time last year after discovering your channel, killed a doe early season and got on some real nice bucks just never was close enough to seal the deal. Excited to get back after it this year. Thanks for the content and humor

    This is the stuff that you dont get from the other hunting channels. This is real scouting and hunting, not going in to an are that is over populated with deer, dumping out a bag of corn and waiting on a deer to come eat. This is good stuff. Stay safe everybody

    Going back through these videos to see if i missed anything. Its nice to see you guys picking up some of that trash. I've got a couple pieces around me I hunt people use like a garbage dump. You have helped me shift from a 'Deer Hunter' to 'Hunting Deer'...I live in NJ but grew up in NH hunting as a kid into HS..back to hunting 3 yrs ago in NJ by sitting in stands and yes sometimes putting corn out...so sorry...now age 53 I have been working really hard implementing your techniques with scouting and they are starting to pay off...my hope is that I can help my youngest son learn these as well and together get a big buck this season...Stay tuned!..I will work on recording my experience and share it with you guys

    You guys might want to ask a game warden about that last pull-off ( if u hunt it). Sometimes there will be a corner of private that looks like public access but is not (kinda like corner hopping in the west). It's probably fine but the way it looked on Onx made me think of that. Thanks again!!!

I understand picking basic go to spots but like you guys proved in this video with the bridge, what the maps show aren't always the way it is. Thanks and keep up the good work.

      I wouldn’t be surprised. You can upload KMZ files (those points and lines you create in Google Earth) to OnX. If there’s a way you can download the points from your GPS to your computer I’d think you’d be able to accomplish that!

      In Google Earth, zoom into the area you want to review. Once you get the scale of miles at around 2 miles out (watch the scale in lower left hand corner), a Year box will appear. Mine displays 1998 & when I hover my mouse over it, a little pop-up comes up & says "Click to see historical imagery from 1998". Click that box with the year in it. At the top left corner of the map, another rectangular box appears and here, you can move a "slider" around to different dates. Earth will display imagery from the dates available based on what images have been captured for the area you are looking at. It will show you images from different years & month's of the year. Let me know if you have questions or if I am not explaining it clearly.

    Hey guys, followed you through out the years. So, I occasionally hunt the properties you highlighted on your last 3 videos. QUESTION, are you guys going to spend time hunting these parcels?? and history for you... I also hunt a lot of stuff east of there but these parcels highlighted in these 3 videos are by far the hardest pressured public in the state (especially vs East by Rathburn). These are a pretty short and straight shot to des moines so the traffic is insane year round. I've hunted "miles back" & still find it in top pressured public that exists. I recall you guys hunted the public that was more by Rathburn in the past. Which, being a couple hours from Des Moines & a big city obviously has far less pressure. It's where I find immensely less pressure. I wasn't sure if you were just using this as an example or if you're really going to log days out there? The public around Rathburn seems like a far better fit for the good guys who really want to make the drive to get far away from town, like you said. Are you guys still spending a lot of time over there too? Thanks and good luck this fall!

      For the purpose of this mapping series, we wanted to make sure we were scouting NEW areas that we hadn't hunted in the past. We've hunted the areas you mentioned but are always looking for new ground. These spots are definitely getting pressure but we won't rule out any area because it can all change so fast. We didn't think much of it when choosing this location other than we'd never been there before and wanted to check it out. We've also found numerous other areas that receive a similar amount of hunting pressure in Iowa. Seems to all change so much from year to year on nearly every piece that we scout and hunt. There's only so many tags allocated each year in Iowa unlike an OTC state where pressure is much higher. With a similar number of hunters in the woods every year, we find ourselves more successful by learning as many areas as possible, so we can adapt if they move into the spots we're hunting. In short, to answer your question we MIGHT hunt these areas depending on the situation. We found some good stuff there when scouting.

    Quick question for you guys since you’ve been hunting public ground for so long. Would you say the Muddy Outdoors sticks along with the lock on they make is easier to use and set up than a summit climber? Especially if I’m walking at least a mile in every time I hunt?

    • @TheHuntingPublic

    Hey guys when yall use your kayaks to access places, how do yall keep them from getting stolen while your hunting?

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  6 років тому +1

      Bama - To be honest, we've never really worried about it - at least we've never taken any preventative measures to keep them from getting stolen other than dragging them up on shore a little ways and trying to hide them. We rarely encounter anyone else when we access public land with kayaks. If you have a tree (or something substantial) close by you could padlock the kayak to it. Or you could cover it with camo netting to make it less conspicuous. Camo Systems Netting would work great for this. Thanks for watching!

      I did hunt where they parked on the second piece of public property. Actually I parked right where they did. I have hunted that DeKalb piece pretty well. I always see people parked in spots all around it when I show up at 4am. If I see a truck parked where I want to hunt I just go down the road to the next spot I know, if the wind is right. If not I move to another location where it is. Fortunately I haven't had anyone walk across me down there just yet nor have I walked across anyone else. Sometimes I go up around Red Rock and walk back a mile or so and still have people cross me.
      I might rethink hunting DeKalb this year. I know it's pressured, 2 years ago I went in for an all day sit but unfortunately had to go to the restroom so I packed it up around 11am, went and found a restaurant down the road and did my business and decided to go back but the wind changed so after G-mapping the area real hard I settled on a spot and went there at 2:30 and was in a tree by 3:30. I didn't make a shot but what was funny is when I came out in the dark there were 5 other trucks by mine. Anyhoo good luck this season.

    Gonna be weird when a lot of you guys from Southern Iowa maybe even some of you out of state guys who buy an out of state tag and go hunt these spots because you think these guys do too.... gonna be a pretty high pressured hunt, meanwhile they're low key scheming to spend their time in undisclosed locations... pretty clever, gotta admit these boys are smarter than 99 percent of public land hunters. For example, Theres no way that people didn't start hunting that river bottom unit with all of the buck beds last year right after they started posting it on the channel... these days with social media there is no good nearly no public spot that no one knows about and very few big bucks that no one knows about, gotta continue to adapt to the competition.

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  6 років тому +1

      We actually don't see a huge difference in the spots we hunt. The buck nest got more attention after we showed it but only from the guys who were already hunting the area. It didn't really seem to attract new people to the spot. If people do as you say, we try to adapt to the competition as you say. Our hope is that people can learn from the process in these videos and apply it where they are hunting. We are showing these areas in detail which has it's disadvantages but we feel like the pros far outweigh the cons.

    • @TheHuntingPublic

      Brett Beato We could hunt them yes. Hunting pressure changes all the time on these public grounds. One day it can hurt you and ruin your hunt. Next day it could help push a buck in your direction. We are likely overlooking some great spots. These vids only scratch the surface of what’s available here.
