Young Martin’s Reels was created to honor my dad Martin B. Stivers of Louisville KY. He was an avid fisherman and repaired thousands of fishing reels in his lifetime. I spent numerous hours watching him do so, but I have forgotten most of what he taught me. Now that he is gone, and I find myself in need of reel repair, so I am learning how it is done and trying my best to pass it on.

I would also like to thank Dennis Kuntz of 2nd Chance Tackle. His videos have helped to fill in the gaps in my “reel” knowledge. Without his UA-cam videos I’m afraid Young Martin’s Reels would not exist.

Thank you very much! I purchased an A-130RL in need of repair for a good price; thinking I could break it down and clean it to make it perform correctly. Halfway through i became confused about the springs and was ready to give up. I appreciate your going through the whole process even though you had already found your solution. Having followed to the end, I now have an great performing reel. Thanks again!
Jeff, that’s what I’m here for. I took a Johnson Scorpion apart last week without videoing the process. It fell apart halfway through and it took me forever to get it back together.
No one could be any more appreciative of Dennis Kuntz than I am. Let me give you an idea. He first found me a. Matched pair of perfect Mitchell 488 reels in perfect condition for an unbelievable price. He did the same with a stunning Penn 710 Greenie. Rick, it was only the AS or Apollo silver series reels that had the dissolving AR claw piece. You know me as to how much I dislike reels where the rotor and pinion are one piece held on to the housing with that clip. Not all of them are necessarily bad reels but I just don’t care for them at all! I have to believe it‘is a price point to make the reel more affordable and that’s fine as we need some inexpensive but basically good reels available in the marketplace. You know in the past you’ve forgotten to grease the slot for the AR post. You did a great job on this Daiwa Rick. Let me continue sharing all that Rick has dome for me. I have a lot of health issues including being legally blind and suffering with chronic kidney stones. One time during one of my kidney stone attacks Dennis sent me four Daiwa GS reels just to give me something to do while I suffered with those stones. I got three of them working fine.. most recently Dennie sent me a package for a Christmas present that absolutely stunned me. He gave me an almost perfect (it just needed servicing) Penn 850ss spinning reel. He knew that was the only one in that series I did not have so he gave me one. There have been many other things he’s done along the way that I won’t mention here but this is who Dennis is and I am proud to be one of his first subscribers when he first started 2nd Chance Tackle. Rick, you and Dennis are cur from the same cloth with a generous and thoughtful spirit in all that you do! Let me share one of the many things you have done for me over the past year or so. Another time when I was sick again you sent me an absolutely gorgeous Daiwa GS-13X spinning reel. It was from that reel that I started collrctind the GS series. I’ve lose count of the washers, shims, and springs you made for me. This is why I say you and Dennis are cut from the same cloth! You both have helped me beyond my widest expectations and believe me when I say how much I appreciate both you and Dennis! - Chris (pS. I didn’t even mention the slide hammer piece you made to help me pull bearings.
Brilliant as always.
I enjoyed making this video. My wife says you guys need to stop saying things like that. My head is going to explode.
Dennis has a very large repository of reel videos. When I can't find a reel on YoungMartin'sReels,, I go to 2nd Chance Tackle for reference. Nice to have both channels for reel repair videos.
I think most of us that watch your videos know you like to take things apart. LOL
