Nice job on the build! I have been riding a bicycle my whole life and at 70 years old I now ride a recumbent trike. I know there are people who definitely need to have an electric motor on their trike. However, I am not ready for an electric motor on my trike yet. Maybe someday I will be. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for posting this! I have that frame and I mounted the battery behind the seat. This helps a bit for weight distribution. Please use clipless pedals/shoes or rig up some other foot retention method to prevent your foot from dropping off the pedal then hitting the ground and crushing back under the frame.
Yeah, really, leg suck at speed would be a life altering injury! If you do put a battery up front it would probably better to go with bottle style batter(y/ies), or at least flip it the other way around so the latch isn’t fighting gravity, and get it as close to the center of the trike.
Putting the battery where you did near the motor puts an awfully lot of weight forward on the boom. That makes the trike awkward to lift into the back of a truck or SUV. I chose to mount my battery on a rack at the rear when I electrified my trike nine years ago. You might try that after you get some experience transporting this new build. Nice video showing the process. Yes, electric trikes are a blast to ride and doing the work yourself saves thousands over the price of a commercial electric trike.
Belle vidéo, elle va beaucoup m'aider pour motoriser mon trike HP Scorpion avec un BBS01 pour rester conforme avec la législation Européenne. Grand merci à toi.
Hi there! "Dirty Dog" thats a new one! Love your videos. Just wondered if you had some surplus cable to contend with after installing the Bafang? I am doing this for the fourth time and really hate all the clumsy surplus cable that has to be wire-tied back to my frame. What is wrong with cutting out the surplus and joining the cables with connectors? If this a is safe to do, can you recommend wich connectors to use?
Cool vid - thanks! I noticed you installed the motor facing downward, while most recumbents seem to have it facing upward. Is there a madness to your method?
The torque of the motor pulls clockwise, if you watch it from the left side. Therefore it is better if the motor can lean to some kind of frame. Most bikes have a little tube here for the derailleur. This frame doesnt. If you turn the motor more upwards the cables will be more visible (and maybe to short)
Thanks for the great video. I am interested in converting my recumbent trike. I am wondering whether the Bafang mid drive motor provides any pedaling resistance if the battery is not connected to the bike. I would like to ride with no electrical assist sometimes but I do not want to suffer pedal resistance.
I have reached out a few times to other you tube channels but never got a reply so thought I'd try one last time asking you. I would like yout opinion on what would ne a good bike frame to use for my situation. I am 53 years old and grew up on a bike but havent ridden for 20 years. I am a very avid hunter and live in the black hills of south Dakota with forest service trails less than a mile from my home. I want a fat tire bike and put a bafang 1000w motor so i can attach a tube frame seat mounted pull behind to haul out my deer and or coyote with very minimal gear. I am 6 1 and 230 lbs and need something to support myselft and 100 lbs behind me. I dont have alot of money available and the motor with battery is already like 1500.00 i think. My thought is even if i get simething just ok to start i can always transfer the equipment over to a new bike in the future correct?. Anyhow. Hope to hear back from you with your opinion and thanks for your time. The video was full of grwat advice and honest about how much of a workout to really expect when using a e bike. I have never ridden one yet but so looking forward to trying one some day. They sure have come a long way in just the 5 years ive been watching youtube. Take care and thanks again.
Would like to see a build which incorporates both a gearbox, internal geared rear hub and a mid-drive. This would unplugged experience and or - plugged in.
I've combined the 500W bafang BBS02 wizh two chainrings in the front and a rohloff-hub in the rear of my KMX trike (similar to the one in the video) Two chainrings on the bafang is normally not possible on a regular bike because of the chainline. On the longer recumbant it was easy. I bought the rohloff used for 600€/$. The trike is very good to drive. The gearing has a huge range. And you can shift standing still. No chain line issues in the back.
Nice job on the build!

At first I had my battery also on the front tube. Now (a little to high maybe) on the rack over the back wheel. Handling got much better!

What frame is that? I've been looking for a recumbent trike

Golden motors is a great place to deal with for everything you need to convert your bike to E.
Thanks Aboss. I'll be back!
I'd like to make a trike just like that one. Are there any plans/ instructions. Please and thank you sir

If you mount the battery lower using the universal mount from T-Cycles the trike will handle even better
What is the price of the 750 or 1000 kit please. Can't find it on the web site. Tia
How much to install on my expedition
Excellent post! Thank you!

Hi! Excellent vidéo!!! Is it an atomic zombi that your bike is?
What speed would it be capable of? Thanks for the video. I enjoyed watching it!
Thanks! It’s capable of between 25 to 30 mph depending on the gearing
Who makes that trike frame, thanks!
Looks like a KMX

I saw a cargo bike last week that was somewhat like what you describe. Highest quality components. $13,999. Good luck in your search.

Can you tell me any estimate of range?
